“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has revealed to Gold Derby its awards submissions strategy for the 2025 Oscars and other upcoming kudos. Directed by Tim Burton, this highly anticipated sequel to 1988’s “Beetlejuice” opened on Sept. 6, 2024, and was able to cross the $100 million mark in the U.S. within only three days. He truly is the ghost with the most!
The Warner Bros. movie takes place more than three decades after the first installment, with Michael Keaton‘s titular demon once again antagonizing the Deetz family, including Winona Ryder‘s Lydia and Catherine O’Hara‘s Delia. This time around, there are new characters in the form of Jenna Ortega‘s Astrid (the daughter of Lydia), Monica Bellucci‘s Delores Laferve (the ex-wife of Beetlejuice), Justin Theroux‘s Rory (the boyfriend of Lydia), Arthur Conti‘s Jeremy Frazier (Astrid’s new love interest), and Willem Dafoe‘s Wolf Jackson (an Afterlife detective).

The live-action feature nominees for the 57th annual Cas Awards for sound mixing (presented virtually on April 17) include “Greyhound,” “Mank,” “News of the World,” “Sound of Metal,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” Darius Marder’s innovative “Sound of Metal,” the frontrunner, also split the Motion Picture Sound Editors nominations with Paul Greengrass’ “News of the World,” with three nods.
Not making the cut, though, was Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet,” the time inversion spy thriller, which was roundly criticized for mixing its dialogue way too low. Also overlooked was George Clooney’s sci-fi drama, “The Midnight Sky,” though the director will be honored as Cas Filmmaker.
In terms of the Oscar race, the Academy has consolidated sound editing and mixing onto a single category for the first time this season.
Seven-time Oscar-nominated sound mixer William B. Kaplan is this year’s Cas Career Achievement Honoree.

The Vampire Diaries, Season 4, Episode 10: “After School Special”
Written by Brett Matthews
Directed by David Von Ancken
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on The Vampire Diaries: Rebekah puts Elena and Stefan in time out, Tyler has Mommy issues, and Klaus takes Jeremy’s training in a new direction
The majority of this week’s Vampire Diaries falls into a fairly common genre-show category- the truth serum episode. For whatever reason, be it chemical, magical, or other, characters with built-up secrets are forced together in a situation where they cannot lie. This is often used for comic effect, but almost always ends with a dramatic revelation or two. Here, Elena and Stefan can’t lie, thanks to Rebekah Compelling them, and it’s revealed that Elena’s in love with Damon, not Stefan, and that Stefan would forget their entire time together if given the choice.

Vdvo: Mystic Falls, wretched hive of scum and villainy. Race for the cure. Stop at nothing.
We open in the Mystic Falls High School gym where Sheriff Liz, the last remaining adult in Mystic Falls, is leading a mandatory memorial service for poor drowned Mayor Carol.
Because forced grief is the best grief
They're calling her death an accident, which since her blood alcohol level was somewhere between “legally drunk” and “Everclear” means her legacy will be roughly the same as Lupe Velez's. She calls for a moment of silence. Tyler can't deal and leaves.
Liz introduces the new interim mayor, Rudy Hopkins.
Oh dear, he's an adult, black and not Bonnie. He's a dead man. Why are they doing this at the high school and not City Hall or the Lockwood place?
Elena spots an un-daggered Rebekah lurking around the edge of the assembly and slips out.

Warning: The following clip is very sexy. Watch & ogle at your own risk.
Just when you thought Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) sex scene was going to be the hottest moment of The Vampire Diaries‘ fourth season, along comes this clip from the Jan. 17 episode, titled “After School Special,” which finds Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Matt (Zach Roerig) engaging in a bit of friendly sparring at the Gilbert lake house. And by “friendly sparring,” I mean going fist-to-fist in a barrage of sleeveless delight.
Damon shows up to provide a little guidance to his pupil, but he can’t even look straight at Jeremy and Matt, presumably because he feels bashful. I mean, this is basically porn, so I completely understand.
Then Jeremy gets angry, and I swear I half-expect him to say, “Come at me bro!” I’ve watched this clip several times, and I...

Elena and Damon head out to the Gilbert lake house. Bonnie, Jeremy, and Shane are holed up there, and Bonnie thinks she has a way to get Jeremy past the whole “I need to kill my sister” thing. As Shane explains, Jeremy’s is a conditioned response. He sees a vampire, he must kill it (funny - his reaction isn’t as strong with any other vampire in town. Just Elena.) Shane’s idea is to recondition him to protect Elena, and to realize that he doesn’t need to act on his first instinct. He needs to stop, think, and realize he has a choice in the matter. Elena shares a warm and fuzzy memory about the Gilberts in the lake house. Jeremy...

"The Vampire Diaries" fandom is pretty divided, given the various breakups and makeups and sire bonds and meaningful glances going around. Still, there's one thing we can all agree on: Steven R. McQueen is really not horrible to look at. The CW clearly knows its target audience, and has given us this gift of a clip in order to help us get through the week before this Thursday's winter finale.
Maybe some stuff actually happens in this clip, but all we're seeing is McQueen's arms. This is just a shot in the dark, but we think maybe possibly he's been working out just a tiny little bit.
Okay, okay, but seriously. The clip features Jeremy chopping wood (while wearing a tank top) at the Gilbert lake house. That hunter strength is definitely paying off -- but all Jeremy can focus on is murdering vampires, so when Elena and Damon drive up,...

It’s Christmas time for The Vampire Diaries, or at least it will be in the upcoming Dec. 13 episode, “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” The only catch is, things aren’t going to be very winter wonderland-like – thought there will be a party themed as such – or merry with cheer. In fact, the episode will put several characters on opposing sides of an issue, because what’s Christmas without a little conflict? You won’t be able to see much, but there are a handful of new images for the episode down below. Not a lot of action is shown, but you might be able to grasp the gist of the scenes they’re showcasing.

Plus, 4 more shocking spoilers from the show's first-ever Christmas episode! They may not be totally alone, but Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) "retreat to the Gilbert Lake House" on the Dec. 13 episode of The Vampire Diaries — and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we saw some sparks fly! According to The CW's official description for the episode, titled "O Come, All Ye Faithful," Damon and Elena accompany Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Professor Shane to the cabin to help Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) "conquer some dangerous inner demons." Like I said, it's not inherently romantic, but I'm sure Damon and Elena will figure out a way to make it hot. Here are 4 more spoilers from the holiday episode: 1. Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) butt heads with Tyler (Michael Trevino) over the best way to deal with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his hybrids. 2. Caroline also clashes...

I find these two awards to be incredibly important when it comes to predicting the lower half of the Oscar categories, as the Cinema Audio Society (Cas) and the American Society of Cinematographers (Asc) have announced their awards tonight and one isn't much of a surprise and the other is more of a welcome surprise.
First for the Asc, which handed Christian Berger the award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography for his work on the beautifully shot black-and-white feature from Michael Haneke The White Ribbon. I declared the film number four on my top ten and absolutely loved every frame. However, this is probably looked as a bit of an upset as I imagine most any technical award will look when Avatar is involved.
In my last round of predictions I handed every technical award to Avatar as a solid base level to start moving into this final week before the Oscars.

This week saw two groups weighing in with some nominations that may help some of you get a better grip on some of the below-the-line tech awards as you begin filling out your Oscar predictions. Both the Visual Effects Society (Ves) and Cinema Audio Society (Cas) and both offer very little in terms of surprises. First let's take a look at those from Cas and I'll begin by offering a pair of audio features courtesy of the SoundWorks Collection.
I originally previewed the sound feature below for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen back on December 31 and it is quite fascinating if you haven't watched it yet, and the latest one for Star Trek is just as interesting.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Star Trek
I think the obvious name that many will also turn to is Avatar, but I would never count out The Hurt Locker in this category either...
