Written by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, Not Dead Yet centers on newly single and feeling-old Nell Serrano (Rodriguez), a self-described disaster who works to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago. A once-successful journalist, Nell put her career on hold to help her fiancé get his restaurant off the ground. Becky G took the Oscars stage to perform “The Fire Inside” from the Eva Longoria-directed film Flamin’ Hot.
Diane Warren wrote the song for the film about Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor who became an executive after inventing Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
Ahead of the ceremony at the Dolby Theater, Longoria talked about the excitement her directorial debut getting some recognition at the Academy Awards.
“I have goosebumps. I can’t believe it. I can because Diane Warren wrote the song, so she’s a genius and Becky G is a genius,” Longoria told Laverne Cox on Live from E! red carpet coverage. “Their performance tonight… You will never be more proud to be a Latino and a Chicano, but Becky’s thought and love that she put into this performance tonight is going to blow everybody away. She has some special guest from Inglewood.”
She continued, “We don’t ever get this platform.

Diane Warren may have 14 Oscar nominations behind her and one honorary little gold man already at home, but, as she says, that man “needs a buddy.” Having written songs for over 100 films in her career thus far, this year, she’s up for Best Original Song once again, with “The Fire Inside”, performed by multi-platinum, Latin Grammy-nominated singer Becky G, for the film Flamin’ Hot.
The film and the song’s music video are directed by multi-hyphenate Eva Longoria, who first broke out as an actress in the 2004 TV series Desperate Housewives. She was named Director to Watch at the Palm Springs International Film Festival last year.
The song speaks not only to the story of the film—the invention of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos—but also the drive within that pushes us to follow our dreams and go far beyond others’ expectations. All three women relate to that theme on...

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Flamin’ Hot, the script from Lewis Colick and Gentefied creator Linda Yvette Chávez that became Eva Longoria’s feature directorial debut.
The rags-to-riches story of Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor (played by Jesse Garcia) who becomes the marketing godfather of the spicy-chip revolution, hit the spot right away with audiences. The pic from Searchlight Pictures won the Headliners section’s audience award after its world premiere at SXSW, after which it became the first film to debut simultaneously on Hulu and Disney+ when it premiered in June.
Longoria told Deadline earlier this year that after sparking to the original script by Colick (October Sky and Charlie St. Cloud) and coming aboard, her first suggestion was that the story’s point of view needed to be Montañez’s.
“This is his version of what happened,” she said.

Dear Hollywood,
As the Thanksgiving holiday dawns, I urge you to include Latino films and performances on your winter watch list and give Hollywood Latinos and their projects a fair chance to be seen.
While Latinos are a growing and essential part of the cultural and social fabric of America, based on the dismal numbers from the recent USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative Report on major Hollywood films released between 2007-2022, it’s clear that Hollywood — America’s narrative-creating and image-defining institution — is broadly failing to acknowledge or include the Latino community.
The Annenberg report notes slow progress over the years. In 2007, no Hispanic/Latino actor held a lead or co-lead role in major Hollywood films. In 2021 and 2022, there were marginal gains, with 10 films where Hispanic/Latino actors held lead or co-lead roles, out of a total of 109 and 118 leading roles, respectively. Among directors and producers of major Hollywood films, less than 5% were Hispanic or Latino,...

Eva Longoria made her feature film directorial debut this year with “Flamin’ Hot,” an inspirational biopic about the rags to riches journey of Frito-Lay executive Richard Montañez (played by Jesse Garcia). The SAG Award-winning “Desperate Housewives” actress admits, “I love TV,” but she had already been directing in that medium for 10 years. When she was sent the script for “Flamin’ Hot'” she told her agent, “This one’s mine.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Longoria was told she “probably wouldn’t get the job” because it was a Searchlight production and more experienced directors were in talks to helm the film. “I worked really hard on a presentation,” she explains. “A huge deck. It was like a two-hour presentation of everything that I wanted the movie to be. So I did get the job.”

Eva Longoria understands that for Latinos, attaining success is only half the battle — amplifying that success is key to ensuring more Latinos get the same opportunities.
“Anytime any Latino is recognized for their work it’s a great feeling,” the “Flamin’ Hot” filmmaker, producer and actress told TheWrap. “The whole point of doing what I do — whether it’s directing or producing — is to amplify the voices of the Latino community.”
Longoria was a successful actress in soaps before her breakout role in ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” and she subsequently launched her own production company to help spearhead shows and movies that showcase Latin American stories and people.
That drive to push boundaries in the entertainment sector is at the heart of TheWrap’s first-ever Latino Power List, which celebrates trailblazers changing the game for Latinos in media. The list spans actors, directors, writers, executives, dealmakers, journalists and up-and-comers who...

For Eva Longoria to have the chance to direct “Flamin’ Hot,” she says she had to “overcome the stigma of being a dumb actor.”
“I’m more than the actor you know from TV,” she tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “I’ve been directing for 12 years. I started with short films. I directed episodic TV, half-hours, one-hours, dramas, comedies, baby pilots, and big pilots. I’ve touched every rung of the ladder.”
On this Variety Awards Circuit Podcast episode, we sit with Longoria to discuss the chance to helm the inspirational true story of a Latino who achieved the American dream. In addition, the Awards Circuit Roundtable discusses the continuation of the SAG-AFTRA strikes and how that will affect the awards season, with actors unable to campaign.

On this Variety Awards Circuit Podcast episode, we sit with Longoria to discuss the chance to helm the inspirational true story of a Latino who achieved the American dream. As the ongoing battles in state legislatures over classroom curricula indicate, history – or at least the curation of which stories to teach, and from which perspectives – is subjective. So too is Hollywood’s rich tradition of biopics, which imply to audiences whose lives are worthy of immortalizing on film. Whether in textbooks or onscreen, most of the protagonists of our shared cultural history have belonged to the same demographic: Elvis, Oppenheimer, Jobs, Zuckerberg, Hughes. Those individuals were undoubtedly impactful, but Hollywood has also devoted resources to spotlighting relatively lesser-known white men, such as Jordan Belfort, Frank Abagnale and Hugh Glass (and that’s just one movie star’s filmography).
Biopics about people of color exist, of course, particularly when it comes to undeniable icons like Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali. But one community – the second largest racial or ethnic group in the country – has been particularly underrepresented when it comes...

While the fall movie lineup continues to shift due to studios adamantly deciding not to fairly pay the writers and actors responsible for them being in business in the first place, not much has changed when it comes to August. Aside from A24 yanking Julio Torres’ Problemista from its August 4 opening, the rest of the calendar has stayed intact and here are the films that should be on your radar.

"I never want to see that man again." IFC Films has revealed the trailer for an indie thriller titled What Comes Around, which initially premiered at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival last year. This originally went under the title Roost, but it has been given a new name for its official release in theaters this summer. In this immersive thriller directed by Amy Redford, a young love affair becomes a menacing game of cat and mouse. Nothing and no one are as they seem... "One moment we think we know where these characters are going; the next, all we know for sure is that the intricacies of family often lie just out of reach." The film stars Grace Van Dien as Anna, Summer Phoenix as Beth, Reina Hardesty, Jesse Garcia, and Kyle Gallner as Eric, the boyfriend. Update: President Joe Biden said that Flamin’ Hot was “the first-ever public screening of a film focused on the Hispanic community at the White House,” just before the Disney+/Hulu project was shown before a crowd of several hundred on the South Lawn.
Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and director Eva Longoria walked out together to make brief remarks to the crowd, who were spread out on blankets and munching on chips and, of course, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. The movie is the story of Frito Lay janitor Richard Montañez, who claimed to have invented the snack, although the origin story is in dispute. Montañez rose in the ranks at Frito Lay to become a marketing executive and “played a key role in accelerating the growth of our Flamin’ Hot Brand and other brands particularly through his Hispanic marketing efforts,” according to the company.

Eva Longoria jokes that she’s taking an extended vacation to get some rest after her whirlwind promotion of “Flamin’ Hot,” her feature film directorial debut. “I am going to sleep for about three months,” Longoria told me Thursday morning. “When I come up for air, I hopefully will know what I’m doing next.”
Joking aside, she said, “I will tell you it’s been very difficult. I’ve been sent many scripts already. I’ve been reading so much, but there’s nothing so far that has sparked in me the intense passion that I had for telling this particular story.
“I was asking my agent, ‘Do I have to feel this way about every story I want to direct? Because I haven’t felt it yet,'” Longoria continued. “He said that should be the bar.”

Eight-year-old TikToker Brice Gonzalez can now see himself on the big screen.
Gonzalez was cast for Eva Longoria‘s Cheetos origin film Flamin’ Hot in 2021, after rising to fame alongside his late father, Randy Gonzalez, on their shared TikTok account Enkyboys.
Randy, who passed away from colon cancer in January, was the account’s original star, but when he began including Brice, their audience grew exponentially–from 190,000 followers in November 2020 to 500,000 in December. Within nine days of hitting 500,000, they were already at a million, Time reports.
Their videos showed off Brice’s ability to memorize and lip sync lines, and that caught the attention of Flamin’ Hot producer DeVon Franklin. He Dm’d Randy on Instagram, and soon, Brice had his very first Hollywood role.

Flamin’ Hot, based on a true story, is a movie directed by Eva Longoria and starring Jesse García and Annie González. It tells the story of a Mexican man who, through hard work, rose through the ranks of a company and created a new flavor: Spicy Cheetos. This is the story of Richard Montañez, who, from Mexico, made a name for himself in the United States through his effort and determination.
Flamin’ Hot The Movie
Eva Longoria directs this heartwarming story that is full of good feelings, emotion, and a desire to succeed. It’s a feel-good movie that goes beyond the story of a business ambition, and instead tells the story of a good man who achieves his goals against all odds.
The movie is well-directed, with a great pace and a soundtrack that’s heavily influenced by Mexican culture. The storytelling is smooth, with a style that complements the story perfectly.

Eva Longoria may just now be making her feature film directorial debut with Flamin’ Hot, but she’s been laying the groundwork for nearly 20 years — all the way back to her breakout role on Desperate Housewives.
After a decade of directing TV episodes for shows including Black-ish, Jane the Virgin and Gordita Chronicles, Longoria noted that for Flamin’ Hot “all of my TV experience paid off because we move at a very ambitious, fast pace and this movie was very ambitious in our scheduling. I really think wow, all of my 10 years in TV prepared me for this moment, which is a film set.”
“And I used Desperate Housewives as my film school, that’s where I really learned everything,” she continued at Friday’s Los Angeles premiere of the movie, which tells the story of Richard Montañez, a Frito Lay janitor who says he came up with the idea for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

The legends, arguments and controversies surrounding the invention of “Flamin’ Hot Cheetos” have been so far beyond my common knowledge, as I have yet to enjoy these snacks like most Indians. Still, a brief investigation reveals that one of the most uplifting dramas, Flamin’ Hot, which is a highly inspiring film that highlights the food culture of the Latino community and the significance of the laborers in the corporate world, is a film that I have to criticize against my will. This is because this film, which successfully portrays the necessity of individuality, the drive to exhibit creativity and innovative thinking, and the confidence to fight for rights, do not exactly align with the truth. However, regardless of what’s true and what’s sugar-coated, if we’re talking about an inspirational film that conveys an important message about the unspoken part of the corporate world, Flamin’ Hot fulfills that role.

Eva Longoria's directorial debut "Flamin Hot" doesn't begin like your typical film. As the opening credits role, it seems normal enough, with Searchlight Pictures's drum role, a rhythm moviegoers everywhere know. But as the horns come in, the classic tune is transformed from the traditional march to mariachi - gritas and all. It's a clear sign that what's about to happen has a different flavor, a decidedly Mexican perspective.
"My North Star was authenticity," Longoria tells Popsugar of creating the biopic of Richard Montañez and his wife Judy as he rises from a janitor at Frito Lay to an executive, thanks to his insight into the Latine community and our untapped market potential in the spicy snack arena.

Jesse Garcia is desperate to make 'Flamin' Hot' a success for the sake of Latinos in the film industry. The 40-year-old actor stars in the movie as Richard Montanez – a Frito-Lay janitor who claimed to have invented the successful Flamin' Hot Cheetos snack – and thinks it is imperative that Eva Longoria's picture performs to give Latino actors and directors the chance to do more films.Jesse told Variety: "Non-Latino projects, they have the luxury of failing. If we make this movie as a success, (the studio execs) go, 'Ok, let's see more. Let's see more of Jesse. Let's see more of Annie.

The first time Jesse Garcia learned about Richard Montañez — the former Frito-Lay executive who’s said that he invented the wildly successful Flamin’ Hot Cheetos brand when he was working as a janitor for the company — the actor immediately thought, “That would be an awesome movie.” Years later, Eva Longoria cast Garcia to play Montañez for her feature directing debut, “Flamin’ Hot,” which premieres June 9 on Hulu and Disney+.
The film, produced by DeVon Franklin, covers Richard’s life from his difficult childhood to his marriage to his high school sweetheart Judy (Annie Gonzalez) to his rise at Frito-Lay. For Garcia, it was an all-too-rare opportunity to depict the real-life story of a Latino family in a mainstream feature film.
“Non-Latino projects, they have the luxury of failing,” Garcia says. “But if our work doesn’t work — or if for some reason is not successful — it’s a struggle to get the next project.

Plot: This is the inspiring true story of Richard Montañez who as a Frito Lay janitor disrupted the food industry by channeling his Mexican heritage to turn Flamin’ Hot Cheetos from a snack into an iconic global pop culture phenomenon.
Review: Underdog stories come in all sorts of flavors, but they rarely aim to be as spicy as Flamin’ Hot. Based on the title and the story at the core of this biopic of Richard Montanez, Flamin’ Hot could have taken some more risks and challenged the expected formula of other rags-to-riches stories. This year alone, Ben Affleck’s Air told the origin of Michael Jordan’s historic contract with Nike in a way that turned what could have been referred to as “that movie about basketball shoes” into a potential Oscar contender. Eva Longoria’s directorial debut has a disputed origin of Cheetos’ popular spicy brand at its core...
