In 2019, The Edge of Sleep, the latest offering from Mark Fischbach, known to his 37 million YouTube subscribers as Markiplier, was pitched to every major platform in Hollywood.
By then, Edge of Sleep was already a popular podcast. In fact, it quickly became the biggest genre narrative podcast of all time, with some 6 million downloads and counting. And for the television adaptation, Markiplier would be reprising his role as a night watchman who attempts to survive a mysterious global crisis where anyone who goes to sleep dies. The podcast’s creators, Jake Emanuel and Willie Block, were on board to write and run the TV version, and Longlegs producer Brian Kavanaugh Jones was attached to produce. There would be six episodes, made on a relative shoestring budget, served up to a rapt audience that Markiplier has cultivated for more than a decade with a channel primarily focused on Let’s Play videos.

“For the longest time, there was nothing. But then — it appeared. A beast not from this Earth, smiting the ones who deserved it, the ones who didn’t and everyone in between. Whoever controls it controls life and death. And those deaths are really f*cked up.”
Following a brief teaser, Neon has released the first trailer for The Monkey, a new Stephen King adaptation directed by Longlegs helmer Osgood Perkins and produced by James Wan.
Theo James stars in a dual role as twin brothers Hal and Bill, who, after discovering their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, begin to experience a series of gruesome deaths occurring all around them.

Hot off the success of “Longlegs,” writer-director Osgood Perkins is already back with another supernatural horror flick. On Tuesday, Neon released the kooky and disturbing trailer for “The Monkey,” which hits theaters early next year. The trailer has a darkly funny tone, but it also contains the image of a baby carriage on fire.
“The Monkey” is based on a 1980 short story by Stephen King that was included in his classic collection “Skeleton Crew.” The story follows twin brothers Hal and Bill, who find a creepy old monkey toy in their attic. When mysterious and gruesome deaths start happening, they get rid of the toy. They grow apart over the years, but they’re brought back together when the monkey comes back. The brothers are played as a child by Christian Convery (“Sweet Tooth”) and as an adult by Emmy nominee Theo James. The cast also includes Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany,...

Neon’s new teaser trailer for The Monkey is as gruesome as you’d expect for a film from Osgood Perkins (Longlegs) based on a Stephen King story. “For the longest time, there was nothing. But then it appeared. A beast not from this Earth, smiting the ones who deserved it, the ones who didn’t, and everyone in between,” says a voiceover, adding, “Whoever controls it, controls life and death.”
Theo James (The White Lotus) leads a cast that includes Tatiana Maslany (She–Hulk: Attorney at Law), Elijah Wood (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency), and Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth). Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (The Hardy Boys), and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek) also star.

Back in March, we heard that production had wrapped on the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, which is coming our way from the team of producer / genre regular James Wan and director Osgood Perkins, whose credits include The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, Gretel & Hansel, and the recent Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs (you can read our review Here). Longlegs was released by Neon – and they’ll also be giving The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. We saw a short teaser for this one back in August, and now a new teaser trailer has dropped online to give us a look at more footage from the film. You can check it out in the embed above.

Osgood Perkins is still walking on his “Longlegs” high.
After the horror writer/director made history as Neon’s highest-grossing film (even surpassing Best Picture winner “Parasite” at the box office), Perkins unveiled the trailer to his follow-up Neon feature, “The Monkey.”
The film is based on Stephen King’s 1980 short story of the same name. Perkins wrote and directed the adaptation, which stars Theo James as twins Bill and Hal who discover their dad’s monkey toy in the attic. Of course, murder ensues.
Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy co-star.
“The Monkey” is produced by James Wan, Dave Caplan, Michael Clear, Chris Ferguson, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones.
And while horror staples Wan and King are behind the film, Perkins told The Hollywood Reporter that “The Monkey” is his most comedic feature yet.

Crank your organ grinder and prepare for February to get your heart pumping harder than trying to decide what to buy your partner for Valentine’s Day because Osgood Perkins’ The Monkey teaser poster is here. Perkins, who delivered one of this year’s best thrillers with Longlegs, is adapting the short story from Stephen King for screens, with James Wan and Michael Clear along for the terrifying ride. The Monkey teaser poster follows August’s trailer tease for the upcoming horror movie featuring a wind-up monkey with spiraling eyes and a Cheshire grin.
The Monkey teaser poster is simplistic in design. It shows the sinister monkey smiling in the dark as a beam of light illuminates its blood-red eye. You can almost hear the rat-tat-tat of the monkey’s little drum as he plays a haunted song.
Perkins wrote the screenplay for The Monkey, based on King’s short story.

Longlegs star Maika Monroe has previously revealed that she only saw Nicolas Cage in full makeup as the titular killer for the first time when she entered the room to film their first (and only?) scene together, and Neon has cleverly incorporated this moment into the movie's marketing.
In this behind-the-scenes clip, Monroe walks through the door to interview Cage's Longlegs, and we hear her heart rate spike dramatically as she approaches the table he's sitting at.
Cage's full visage is blacked out, and director Osgood Perkins spoke about the effect of keeping the actor's "transformation" hidden during a recent interview with THR.
“The first day that he came onto set, it was a relatively young crew in Vancouver who hadn’t seen really anything like that — I mean no one has really seen anything like what Nick is like in this movie. Certainly walking onto the set with him on the first day,...

We're now less than two weeks away from the release of a movie that has been hailed as the most terrifying serial killer thriller since Silence of the Lambs, and Neon has debuted one final trailer for Osgood Perkins' Longlegs.
This latest teaser pulls back on the horrific imagery (slightly), but still manages to be highly unsettling, and also features what might be our best look yet at Nicolas Cage as the titular killer right at the end.
Aside from a few quick glimpses, Longlegs himself has mostly been kept out of the marketing, which Perkins believes will make his full reveal all the more effective for audiences when they're sitting down to watch the movie in theaters.

Neon has debuted a brief new promo for Osgood Perkins' Longlegs, featuring some unsettling new imagery from the highly-anticipated horror film.
We've seen several teasers for the movie at this stage, and while we have caught a couple of chilling glimpses of Nicolas Cage as the titular serial killer, the character's full visage has been kept under wraps - with good reason.
"It's driving people towards a freak show at a circus tent," Perkins tells Entertainment Weekly. "We've got the thing behind the curtain, and when there's enough people gathered 'round, we're going to pull the curtain."
"It's the equivalent of putting a warning label on a jar of nitroglycerin," adds Cage. "The monster is a highly, highly dangerous substance. The way it's moved, unveiled, deployed has to be treated very carefully. Forget about the movie theater blowing up; the whole city could blow up, nay the country, maybe even the world.

Back in March, we heard that production had wrapped on the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, which is coming our way from the team of producer / genre regular James Wan and director Osgood Perkins, whose credits include The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, Gretel & Hansel, and the upcoming Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs. Longlegs will be reaching theatres on July 12th, courtesy of Neon – and today, Neon has announced that they will be giving The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. So we’ll be getting two Osgood Perkins movies from Neon just seven months apart.
Perkins wrote the screenplay for The Monkey, working from a King short story. The film will tell the following story: When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them.

Longlegs, the latest horror project from The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel director Osgood Perkins, is set to reach theatres on July 12th, and is has come to the attention of our friends at Bloody Disgusting that a strange, coded letter that was printed in the Seattle Times last Friday “at the request of Longlegs” points readers in the direction of a viral marketing website called TheBirthdayMurders.net, which chronicles the crimes of the serial killer character in the film by Nicolas Cage (Dream Scenario).
The front page of the website informs us, “For nearly three decades, this Satan-worshipping psycho has terrorized families throughout the Pacific Northwest. A bloody trail of bodies here in the great state of Oregon attests to the depraved savagery of this one-of-a-kind serial killer. With over three dozen victims that we know of,...

The previous teasers for The Blackcoat's Daughter director Osgood Perkins' next feature, Longlegs, have been very effective in building an aura of unsettling dread around the mysterious horror flick, but this latest trailer really takes things to another level.
Though the movie is still playing things relatively close to the chest when it comes to revealing specific plot details, this footage does give us a little more to go on, as rookie FBI agent Lee Harker (It Follows star Maika Monroe) becomes obsessed with tracking down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families - and might just have supernatural abilities.
Harker has a personal connection to the killer (did she survive an earlier attack?), which leads her down an even darker path and into the world of the Occult.
Say your prayers, check out the new trailer and poster below along with the initial social media reactions, and...

Emmy-nominated actor Theo James isn't slowing down when it comes to taking on new projects, and we couldn't be more elated about this. His most recent project was starring in the Netflix action-comedy series The Gentlemen. Now, he's confirmed to be starring in an upcoming supernatural horror film called The Monkey. More details on this movie are below.
Why does the title of this movie sound familiar, you ask? Well, it's because it's based on the king of horror, aka Stephen King's 1980 horror short story of the same name. It's a film adaptation of this short story with Longlegs director Osgood Perkins signed on as director. He also penned the screenplay.
The story follows twin brothers Hal and Bill, who, after discovering their father's old monkey toy in the attic, begin to witness a series of brutal deaths unfolding around them. The brothers decide to get rid of the...

As far as individual authors go, Stephen King is certainly in the top of the list of authors whose works have been adapted. He is right there with Agatha Christie, Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, and other authors whose works have been adapted often and in many forms. But unlike the aforementioned authors, King’s adaptations are usually original, while the other authors have seen their works adapted and remade more than once. In light of that fact, we can confirm that King’s story, “The Monkey,” had been adapted into a film this spring and the movie was presented to buyers at Cannes this year!
Knowing how popular King’s adaptations are, it was a sure thing that someone would buy the movie, and as it happens, Neon managed to nab the distribution rights for the upcoming movie and they have confirmed that a 2025 release date is currently planned.

Horror fans have been keeping a very close eye on director Osgood Perkins' next project, and the first social media reactions for the mysterious Longlegs are in.
These reactions are highly positive, and it sounds like the movie is a genuinely disturbing, terrifying experience.
Though Longlegs definitely seems to be keeping its biggest secrets firmly under wraps for the time being (and the teasers are all the better for it), we do know that the plot revolves around a rookie FBI agent (It Follows star Maika Monroe) attempting to track down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families.
Cage's character has largely been kept out of the marketing, aside from one unsettling shot.
