The werewolf renaissance is upon us, and Bloody Disgusting has learned that yet another new werewolf horror movie is headed our way this year. This one’s titled Operation Blood Hunt.

Quiver Distribution has acquired North American rights to Operation Blood Hunt, the new World War II-era action thriller meets horror film from actor-director Louis Mandylor and writer Brandon Slagle.

Quiver will release Operation Blood Hunt on October 4. Watch the trailer below.

Operation Blood Hunt follows prolific expert of the occult and whiskey, Reverend Conte, and a ragtag group of military rejects as they venture to a remote island in the South Pacific to investigate the unexplained disappearance of several United States Marine Corps battalions stationed there in 1944. Transformers revs up its engines and zooms back in time with Transformers One, diving into the roots that started it all. This prequel, although animated, is part of the same universe as the live-action series, and stars none other than two of the biggest of the MCU stars, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth.

Exclusive: Andrew Keegan is to star in an indie drama series from horror actress Devanny Pinn.

He will play an entertainment titan in The Blvd, which is being worked up as a six-part series set in LA’s hottest boutique public relations agency during awards season.

Keegan’s character will be Jake Flynn, head of a rival PR firm that is poised to depose longstanding celebrity publicist Persephone Reed (Kinmont).

Also starring in the indie production are Chelsea Gilson, Jordi Vilasuso, Vincent Irizarry, Nichole Tom, Adam Huss, Candace Kita and Eric Himel.

The show is currently in production in LA, with Pinn (Camp Lake Pleasant) producing through her Jaguar Motion Pictures imprint from a script from Brandon Slagle and Eric Pereira.

The Black Mass, the title of actress Devanny Pinn’s directorial debut is not, as one might guess, a reference to a Satanic ritual. It’s the description one of the survivors gave of the man who, across one long night in 1978, attacked four of her sorority sisters, killing two of them as well as attacking a random woman he encountered nearby.

That man was Ted Bundy. That doesn’t mean that The Black Mass is a typical true-crime film or even a straightforward slasher film. Pinn and co-writers Eric Pereira and Brandon Slagle keep the killer in the background figuratively and literally for much of the film.

The latest edition of the Popcorn Frights Film Festival draws to a close, putting a cap on endless movie premieres, repertory screening, and horror celebrations.

Our first roundup of Popcorn Frights 2023 capsule reviews included horror musicals and experimental genre-benders. The fest didn’t slow down in the back half, either.

In my childhood, I chanced upon a DVD of a movie that instilled a phobia of crocodiles in me. I later learned that the reptile shown in the film was an alligator, and the movie was aptly titled Alligator. Directed by Brandon Slagle, the new movie The Flood mixes the fun of legendary man-eating alligators with the background of a plot that seems to be inspired by Rio Bravo. Such films are always based on how absurdly the ‘gator’ will devour its next prey, and The Flood delivers the goods. It does begin by pretending to be a much more serious film than it actually is, but as soon as the famished gators show up, everything falls into place. Just gather your friends, and you might have a movie night on hand.

The plot revolves around Sheriff Jo Newmann in Louisiana, who gets a request to accommodate five violent criminals...

The scene where Robert Shaw gets eaten in “Jaws” is one of the most thrilling moments in movie history. After all of Steven Spielberg’s virtuoso framing and cool ’70s Hitchcock scare tactics, the shark’s big-mouthed consumption of a man who fully deserves to be eaten had a shockingly raw “Look, there it is!” exploitation-film brazenness. (One not inaccurate way to describe “Jaws” would be to call it the greatest B-movie ever made.) “The Flood,” an alligator-attack movie that’s also a violent prison-break thriller, takes its cue from that scene. Set in a backwater Louisiana police station during a hurricane, the film isn’t shy about serving up its big, nasty human-torso-meets-jaws moments. It’s basically a slasher movie with teeth.

The alligator thriller, of course, was always a bargain-basement knockoff of “Jaws” — literally, since the alligators are inevitably slithering out of some basement somewhere. But it was...

Saban Films has unveiled the official trailer for a WWII action movie called 3 Days in Malay, directed by the Australian action star Louis Mandylor. Another of these unoriginal action movies being churned out by the dozen. Mandylor has been starring in films made by director Brandon Slagle recently, though this time Slagle wrote the screenplay and let Mandylor direct. A small group must defend an airfield for three days against the Japanese assault during the fight for Malay in World War II. Mandylor with Cowboy Cerrone, Peter Dobson, Ryan Francis, Randall J. Bacon, and Quinton Rampage Jackson star in the WWII action film, out to watch starting in August. It's inspired by a true story, based on the actual Malayan campaign in 1941-1942 where Allied forces tried to defend Malaya from Japanese forces. This looks brutal and intense, and remarkably generic and uninteresting.

Borrowing a page from 2019’s Crawl, The Flood aims to escalate the thrills by pitting man-eating alligators against cops and prisoners in a flooded Louisiana jail amidst a raging hurricane. It’s a high concept scenario that lends itself well to action-horror thrills and B-movie fun. The Flood doesn’t quite follow through on execution, though. It’s not the rough effects that sink The Flood, but an overly convoluted plot that bogs down the runtime.

Louisiana sheriff Jo Newman (Nicky Whelan) already has enough on her plate, trying to corral her officers into preparing the leaking police station from further storm damage during a ferocious hurricane. Then she receives a phone call announcing the unexpected arrival of a prison transport bus in dire need of temporary shelter for the night. Newman’s reluctance gets overruled, and she’s forced to contend with a group of dangerous convicts, including cop...

The Flood opens with Sommer and Clarence taking refuge from Hurricane Clarence in an empty building. That might protect them from the rain, but as they find out, the weather isn’t the worst thing about the storm.

The storm also causes a bus transferring a group of dangerous criminals, Big Jim, Floyd, Jox, Angelo and Russel Cody to take refuge for the night in a decrepit small town jail run by Sheriff Jo Newman.

Now if the first paragraph sounds a bit like Crawl and the second one makes you think of the opening of Assault on Precinct 13 you’re not the only one. And I’m sure writers Chad Law and Josh Ridgway were...

Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting’s throwback slasher We Might Hurt Each Other (formerly Pensive) is Now Streaming on our Screambox platform beginning today!

The bloody Lithuanian teen horror film was directed by Jonas Trukanas and stars Gabija Bargailaite (Pilgrims), and calls back to slasher classics like Friday the 13th.

In fact, this is Lithuania’s very first slasher movie!

Inspired by local legends, We Might Hurt Each Other follows a group of privileged high school classmates. After these classmates destroy a set of life-size wooden statues during a wild graduation party, a mysterious masked killer begins picking the group off one by one.

When a filmmaker takes on a story based on the crimes committed by a real serial killer, they have to walk a fine line. If they cross that line, it can feel disrespectful to the victims… and can even seem like they’re glorifying the killer. That’s not something Devanny Pinn intends to do with her feature directorial debut a 1970s serial killer tale called Black Mass. Speaking with Rue Morgue, she revealed that Black Mass focuses on the victims rather than the killer.

Inspired by real events, Black Mass is set over a 24-hour period in Florida during the winter of 1978 when college girls were being stalked by a serial killer. From director Devanny Pinn, the true crime thriller Black Mass has set its market screening on May 21, 2023 at 6:15pm in the Palais des Festival (Palais J) as part of the Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France, Bloody Disgusting has learned.

We’ve also been provided with the film’s poster art, which you’ll find below.

In attendance at the festival will be director Pinn (an award-winning actress and producer who has been active in horror for over a decade) and Black Mass stars Andrew Sykes, Sarah Nicklin (The Retaliators) and Michelle Romano (Spoken Word), the latter who also produced the film.

Prolific director Brandon Slagle opens his latest film centring on a speeding car, as Vincent Baros (Kristos Andrews) drives from a successful score. A shootout with a pursuing car ends with the driver being shot, only to reveal his status as an undercover police officer. This results in a prison sentence for Vincent, where he is visited by his estranged father, Alex (Louis Mandylor).

Any hopes of mending their relationship are interrupted when the maximum-security prison is taken over, as terrorist mastermind Max Chandler (Brian Krause) recruits the prisoners while making demands to the hostage negotiator (Tom Sizemore). However, nobody counted on Alex’s presence, as the retired Black Ops agent puts his skills towards stopping the takeover.

Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired the prison break action film “Breakout,” which features the late Tom Sizemore in one his final roles. The film is set to release in April. Watch the trailer above.

The thriller is about a criminal mastermind and former LAPD explosives expert that has taken over a a maximum-security California prison with other prisoners joining his side. They go head-to-head with rogue hostage negotiator and a retired Black Ops agent who happens to have been visiting his incarcerated son.

In the trailer, which you can see above, Sizemore plays a detective, standing next to other law enforcement officers with the guns drawn. Meanwhile, we see there’s a subplot about a son seeking some kind of redemption amid the chaos. Drama!

Simone Haywood has been promoted to Creative Director for MultiStory London, while Jon Cahn has joined as Executive Producer and Zinia Scroggs has been appointed Series Editor. Devanny Pinn has almost 90 screen acting credits to her name, with many of those credits being for roles she has played in horror film. Credits include Frost, Death Count, Pretty Boy, The Sunday Night Slaughter, The Dawn, Crossbreed, Death Hotel, Lilith, Party Bus to Hell, Scary Story Slumber Party, Dwelling, House of Manson, The Devil’s Nightmare, The Black Dahlia Haunting, and The Los Angeles Ripper. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Pinn is making her feature directorial debut with a thriller of her own, a 1970s serial killer tale called Black Mass, which started filming in Los Angeles last Friday.

Devanny Pinn, star of Battle for Saipan and best known for appearing in an impressive number of horror titles, has lined up her first feature as director.

The actress and producer is set to helm the 1970s crime thriller Black Mass, due to start shooting in L.A. on Friday.

Nothing to do with the 2015 Johnny Depp gangster drama of the same name, Black Mass is inspired by real events and is set over a 24-hour period in Florida during the winter of 1978 when college girls were being stalked by a serial killer. Lew Temple (The Walking Dead), Jeremy London, Lisa Wilcox and Michelle Romano (Escape From Ensenada) will star, with Romano also serving as producer. Also joining the cast are Kathleen Kinmont, Eva Hamilton, Chelsea Gilson, Jenny Wenger, Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist), Andrew Sykes, Jennifer Lynn Warren and Susan Lanier.

THR reports that Operation Blood Hunt is not just a horror movie but a werewolf movie, being described as a mix between Predator, Underworld, and The Dirty Dozen.

According to THR, filming recently wrapped in Bangkok, Thailand. It’s set to feature “custom built mechanical werewolves with fully animated faces, all done by remote control.”

Exclusive: After launching in Cannes, financier Ashland Hill Media Finance has come aboard to co-finance Rupert Sanders’ reboot of The Crow, starring Bill Skarsgård, FKA Twigs and Danny Houston.

Ashland Hill, which was set up by producers Joe Simpson, Simon Williams and Jonathan Bross, helped close finance on the reboot, which recently went into post-production.

Based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel, the film charts the story of a brutally murdered man who comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder. The script for the modern re-imagining was penned by Oscar nominee Zach Baylin (King Richard). CAA Media Finance reps domestic on the revenge-thriller. FilmNation is repping international. The tragic 1994 version, which starred the late Brandon Lee, became a cult classic.

The Night Manager and Gosford Park star Tom Hollander has landed a lead role in Billie August coming of age post-World War II drama feature Me, You. Adapted from Erri De Luca’s novel Tu, Mio, it also has Daisy Jacob (National Theatre Live: The Hard Problem) and Alessandr Gassman (Transporter 2) attached and will begin principle photography in Ischia, Italy in September.
