Jason Hewitt, a native of Louisiana, left the technology industry to
join the film and television industry. Hewitt was an early mover in the
Internet economy, founding the website creation and marketing
management company Planet Symphony in 1994. The company gained national
attention the following year when it staged the first ever broadcast of
live audio and video images of Mardi Gras from three different cities
over the Internet. Planet Symphony later split into two distinct
entities: Planet Symphony, which was acquired by the Graham Group in
December 1995 ($250,000) and StarSeed, which was acquired by Geocities
in December 1998 ($33 million). In 2005, Hewitt later formed HK
Pictures with partner George M. Kostuch, producing several feature
films. Hewitt now produces under his production banner, Films In
Motion.
A serial entrepreneur as well as a musician, Hewitt is an active public speaker and guest lecturer on the topics of filmmaking, entertainment, software development, digital distribution of assets, entrepreneurship and the future of the Internet.
