Sony and MGM’s upcoming Spider-Noir series, starring Nicolas Cage, will be the first TV show in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu), and fans are already excited. Cage returns as Spider-Man Noir, bringing his popular role from the animated Spider-Verse movies to life in live-action. Fans are looking forward to seeing his take on the gritty, 1930s-inspired hero.

The series will have eight episodes and is set to stream on MGM+ in late 2025 or early 2026. Filming will finish by early 2025. The story will follow an “aging, down-on-his-luck private investigator” in 1930s New York City, dealing with his past as the city’s only superhero—a fresh take on the noir-style Spider-Man.

It's business as usual in Los Angeles now the worst of the wildfires is over and Spider-Noir resumed shooting yesterday. Lead star Nicolas Cage, no stranger to comic book adaptations, has been spotted in costume as Ben Reilly, albeit in his P.I. gear rather than a super-suit.

The actor first played this version of Spidey in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and became an instant fan-favourite. The fact he's getting to reprise the role in live-action isn't something we ever expected, though this Spider-Man is Ben, not Peter Parker (we don't think that makes him a clone; it's more than likely a result of Sony not wanting to confuse audiences).

AMC Networks is kicking off 2025 with a January lineup that includes season two of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches and Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale. Planet Earth: Asia, presented by Sir David Attenborough, premieres in late January on BBC America, and horror fans will be treated to Nick Frost’s Get Away debuting on Shudder on January 10th.

Boxing movies stand apart from other sports dramas for the sheer energy and underdog spirit they bring to the screen. From Rocky to Raging Bull, the legacy of movies about the sweet science has fascinated viewers for decades. In 1951, young director Stanley Kubrick directed a short documentary titled Day of the Fight, which followed middleweight boxer Walter Cartier as he prepared for a match-up at Madison Square Garden in New York. Actor Jack Huston was fascinated by that film and wrote a film using the same title but chronicling a much different lead-up to a prize fight.

For his directorial debut, Jack Huston knew exactly how he wanted the movie to look.

“I wanted to make a film that was reminiscent of films that made me fall in love with cinema,” Huston told IndieWire. “The more gritty black-and-white dramas, human stories, adult stories, character studies, pieces.”

That meant that Huston imagined “Day of the Fight” in black and white from the start. The choice, as Huston pointed out, brought a sense of timelessness to the story of Mikey (Michael Pitt), a prizefighter freshly out of prison who spends the day before his last fight reconnecting with his past in 1989 New York City. “I think [black-and-white] gives it a sort of timeless aspect,” Huston said. “I wanted people to be able to access this film at any point. But the black and white was really a tool because I felt it was a metaphor for how he was living...

A former heartthrob best known for The Dreamers, the American remake of Funny Games, and his role on Boardwalk Empire, he recently turned up in the underrated Benicio del Toro film Reptile but otherwise has been out of the spotlight for years. If you google his name, you can see that he had to deal with some personal issues we’re not going to dredge up here, but suffice it to say that Day of the Fight offers him a strong star vehicle that could help him make a comeback if the right people see it.

AMC's critically-acclaimed adaptation of Interview With the Vampire recently wrapped its superb second season, but the network's other serialized take on the works of the late Anne Rice, The Mayfair Witches, is also set to return for a sophomore run, and a new teaser trailer and poster have now been released.

The first season concluded with Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario) giving birth to a human incarnation of the demon known as Lasher (Jack Huston), fulfilling the Mayfair family prophecy in the process.

This came on top of Rowan discovering that she is the heiress to a long line of witches - and learning the truth behind her own parentage, which ultimately led to her using her new magical abilities to turn her biological father to stone.

“In the books, [Lasher] grows really quickly in a matter of minutes. We’ve drawn it out a little bit,” showrunner Esta Spalding reveals to TV Line.

AMC’s released a new short teaser for the upcoming second season of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches. The 45-second video doesn’t give much away but does show that Rowan is ready for a fight.

After voicing the character’s animated version in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Across The Spider-Verse, Nicolas Cage’s casting as the Noir version excited people. To differentiate the project from the film adaptation and the various versions of Spider-Man’s alter ego, the series will present a different take on the Noir hero by making him someone other than the character played by Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, or Tobey Maguire in live-action. Who this Spider-Man’s alter ego is remains to be seen.

“Raging Bull” vibes abound in actor-turned-writer/director Jack Huston’s first feature behind the camera. Huston reunites with his “Boardwalk Empire” co-star Michael C. Pitt for the 2023 out-of-competition Venice premiere “Day of the Fight.” The black-and-white drama follows a formerly renowned boxer Mike Flannigan (Pitt) now fresh out of prison and heading into his first fight since he was incarcerated.

Falling Forward Films — which this year released “Goodrich,” “Reagan,” and will soon debut “Los Frikis” — opens “Day of the Fight” in theaters on December 6. Below, IndieWire shares an exclusive clip from the film, which shows Mike asking his onetime best friend Patrick (John Magaro), now a Catholic priest, about the path toward redemption for his past. (The difference here from Martin Scorsese’s own black-and-white boxing classic being that of course Robert De Niro’s Jake Lamotta was seeking no redemption of any kind.)

Like its title promises, Day of the Fight climaxes in a boxing match. Star Michael C. Pitt revealed that it was his idea to have a real fight during the production. Writer-director Jack Huston, making his directorial debut, heartily agreed.

“I had said to Jack, ‘Put the fight at the end of the movie. They won’t worry whether or not I get hurt then. We’ll make contact. We’ll fight. We might need to do that.’ ” Pitt said during a discussion of the movie at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles awards showcase. “On a bigger production, they have more time. They have stunts and all these things.”

Huston only had one and a half days to film the climax of the film, a fact that floored even Martin Scorsese when he introduced a screening in New York.

“You put him in the ring,” Huston said, appearing virtually on the panel.

The lineup has been set for Contenders Film: Los Angeles, Deadline’s signature movie awards-season event. The showcase, which will take place Saturday, November 16 in Hollywood at the DGA Theater, features a star-studded lineup of actors and filmmakers behind 21 Oscar-hopeful films that have premiered this year, many first seen at festivals like Sundance, Cannes, Venice, Telluride and Toronto.

Sony and Amazon/MGM's Spider-Noir series appears to be taking some major liberties with the source material, but given how obscure this Variant of the web-slinger is, does it really matter if "Ben Reilly" is beneath the mask instead of Peter Parker?
