Kevin Feige is all set to take the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in a new direction. His vision has already kickstarted with the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, which features a stellar cast including Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, reprising their titular roles. “…with each story, ‘The Watcher’ acts as a guide through these various timelines and raises such questions as: What if ‘Ultron’ successfully defeated the ‘Avengers’ and acquired the ‘Infinity Stones’?
“What if ‘Peggy Carter’ was injected with ‘Super Soldier Serum’ instead of ‘Steve Rogers’? What if ‘T'Challa’ became ‘Star-Lord’?

Years ago, there was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people leading blockbuster movies, to unite them onscreen and eventually crack open their universe with new worlds and realities. It was an idea called the multiverse, and though it persists, it hasn’t panned out quite as expected — except with Marvel Studios’ “What If…?”
Written by A.C. Bradley and directed by Bryan Andrews, the animated anthology series takes familiar Marvel characters and comic book breakouts and sets them on brand-new adventures, set in parallel universes where the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are immaterial. On “What If…?” it doesn’t matter if a plot line fits into the MCU canon, if a character behaves according to specific events they experienced in the movies, or even whether they have the same powers and origin story. Like comic books themselves, the episodes of “What If…?” offer built-in resets to keep stories fresh.

When Marvel's "What If...?" season 2 premieres later this month, fans will be taking another look at some other pockets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like last season, the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) observes (and sometimes takes part in) some alternate versions of the lives of our villains and heroes. This time around, we're also getting a brand new hero named Kahhori, a First Nations woman of the Mohawk tribe. Kahhori was created for the animated series with a lot of influence and input from the Mohawk people. The episode is done completely in the Mohawk language with subtitles, and the people running the show are very excited about it.
I recently got a chance to watch the first two episodes (neither of which were Kahhori's) of the second season, and attend a Q&a with executive producer Bryan Andrews, writer Matthew Chauncey, and writer and executive producer A.C. Bradley. They spoke...

Marvel’s What If? Is back for a second series on Disney+ this December – and here’s the trailer to prove it…
What If? was a surprising, fun addition to the Marvel canon when it first landed on Disney+, perhaps because the sheer scale of storytelling possibilities is so huge.
Series one featured scenarios as wide ranging as Peggy Carter becoming the First Avenger and T’Challa becoming a Star Lord, to examining what might have happened if artificially-intelligent supervillain Ultron hadn’t been defeated by those pesky Avengers. It doesn’t look like the next run of the show will be pulling its punches either.
Promotion is underway for it now, and we now have a synopsis for the second series. It doesn’t tell us much, but nevertheless reads as follows:

We have huge news for all the goth girl lovers out there. With the second season of Marvel's "What If...?" slated for an early 2023 release, one of its first voice actors has been confirmed, and it's a pretty massive one. According to the Disney blog Laughing Place, show director Bryan Andrews revealed at a LightBox Expo panel that Cate Blanchett will lend her voice to the second season as Hela, the villainous half-sister of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) introduced in "Thor: Ragnarok."
No direct quotes from the panel have been given regarding this reveal. However, Andrews did seemingly tease that an episode will be dedicated to the character, showing a side of her that wasn't shown in "Ragnarok." According to Laughing Place, he also discussed how surreal it was to record the Oscar-winning actress for the episode. We certainly wish that this LightBox Expo was recorded, but...

When executive producer Brad Winderbaum had the idea for an animated Marvel anthology series, he knew he needed director Bryan Andrews for the job. Based on the Marvel comic series of the same name, What If…? explores how small changes at pivotal moments in the MCU could change everything. While they began with small moments in the first season, Andrews says the series, which is renewed for two more seasons, is going to get more and more wild. What If…? is nominated for three Emmys, including a Outstanding Animated Program for the fourth episode, “What if… Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead Of His Hands?”

With the announcement of the Primetime Emmy Awards nominations, Boseman received a posthumous nom for outstanding character voice-over for his famous role of T’Challa in the animated series “What If…?” from Disney+ and Marvel Studios.
Boseman also received a posthumous Oscar nomination for his performance in George C. Wolfe’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Anthony Hopkins ultimately won that year for his work in “The Father.”

In the same breath that it double-secret formally announced Season 2 of What If…?, Disney+ on Friday also unveiled its plans for two more animated Marvel series. [pmc_inline_gallery]
First up (and clearly taking a cue from the fifth episode of What If…?), Marvel Zombies is an animated series from Marvel Studios that “re-imagines the Marvel Universe as a new generation of heroes battle against an ever-spreading zombie scourge.” Bryan Andrews (What If…?, Men in Black: The Series) will direct.

There are just two episodes left in the first season of Marvel's "What If...?" animated series. In case you haven't noticed, the series has been slowly heading towards something much more than an anthology series that remixes the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though director Bryan Andrews and A.C. Bradley played coy at the show's start, they've now confirmed that there has always been a "bigger plan" in play that will bring these alternate universes together. When tomorrow's new episode, ""What If... Ultron Won?," debuts, we'll start to see how these stories will interconnect and lead to a big season finale.

This article contains What If…? spoilers.
In the second and latest episode of the new animated Marvel Studios series What If…?, a familiar figure appears in an unexpected scenario. “What If…T’Challa Became A Star-Lord?” finds the Wakandan prince not assuming the mantle of king and Black Panther in his home country on Earth, but instead roaming the galaxy as an outlaw with the Ravagers, who accidentally absconded with him instead of Peter Quill when sent to Earth to find the son of the Celestial known as Ego.
The episode is perhaps the best of the first three provided to the press, not least because it features the unmistakable voice of the late Chadwick Boseman, who died nearly a year ago in August 2020 and whose work on the show as T’Challa is the last he did before his shocking and unexpected passing.

Long before What If…? or Star Wars: Visions, there was The Animatrix, a collection of nine animated short films set in the world of The Matrix. Released in 2003, between The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, The Animatrix told nine (mostly) distinct stories only tangentially related to the ongoing plot of the Matrix series proper, and Lana and Lilly Wachowski did it by collaborating with some of the best directors working in Japanese animation at the time. I would say that The Animatrix walked so What If…? and Star Wars: Visions could run… except for the fact that The Animatrix fucking soared.
What is The Animatrix?
The Animatrix is comprised of nine short films, with stories ranging from a “historical file” of how the Matrix was created out of the war between humanity and machines in two-parter “The Second Renaissance” to the minimalist black-and-white noir of “A Detective Story” to...
