A decade ago, Ed Sheeran joined the British and Irish supergroup Band Aid to cover the charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” The 2014 iteration of the song — which originally premiered in 1989 and was updated in 2004 — also featured One Direction and Sam Smith, among others. Last week, these same names appeared when Band Aid announced the lineup for the 2024 version. But now, Sheeran claims he was never contacted to extend permission to use his vocals on the recording — and even if he had been, he would have said no.

The music biopic genre is getting a new groove with Better Man, the bold and quirky take on the life of British pop legend Robbie Williams. This 2024 movie isn’t your typical rise-and-fall rockstar tale—it’s got Williams portrayed as a monkey through motion-capture technology. Yep, you read that right! Robbie himself is lending his voice to this unique depiction, promising a cinematic experience as unpredictable as his career.
When Can You Watch Better Man?
Mark your calendars! Better Man hits select US theaters on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, before a nationwide release on January 17, 2025. Fans in the UK can catch it the day after Christmas, on December 26. This late-December drop isn’t just festive timing—it strategically positions the movie for a shot at year-end awards, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love an underdog Oscar story?...

In 1984, the music supergroup Band Aid was formed to record a holiday song for African family relief titled “Do They Know It’s Christmas.” The song has since become a seasonal classic. In celebration of the song’s 40th anniversary, it’s getting a modern remix. But should it be reworked again?
Details of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ 40th anniversary remix
“Do They Know It’s Christmas” has been updated in honor of the song’s 40th anniversary. A remix will subsequently combine the original track with three prior versions to honor the relief efforts of the Bob Geldof, Midge Ure tune.
The confirmed vocal takes on the song’s 2024 version include George Michael, Boy George, Sting, Simon Le Bon, Robbie Williams, Dido, Sugababes, Ed Sheeran, Sinéad O’Connor, Sam Smith, Seal, Guy Garvey, and Harry Styles. There will also be two appearances by Chris Martin and three from Bono.

Jc Chasez is shifting gears for his first album in 20 years: He’s releasing a musical theater concept album inspired by Mary Shelly’s 1818 novel Frankenstein. Made in collaboration with Golden Globe-winning songwriter and composer Jimmy Harry, Playing With Fire will be out just in time for Halloween on Oct. 25.
Chasez and Harry’s project is a reimagined take on the monster classic, inspired by a theatrical adaptation of the story penned by playwright, and Harry’s late mother, Barbara Field. The concept is a conversation between a dying Frankenstein and his creation,...

Starring Paul Bettany, Kirsten Dunst and two Sugababes songs, Wimbledon shows the potential for love to transform a middling underdog into a champion
When the average punter considers tennis, they conjure the legends of the game: Serena Williams’ revolutionary power and style; Djokovic’s irreverent on-and-off court behaviour; and closer to home, Hewitt’s insistence on celebrating a winning point by miming a tête-à-tête between himself and a hand puppet.
Peter Colt – the bumbling protagonist of Richard Loncraine’s 2004 romcom Wimbledon, played by Paul Bettany – is no such household name. “For the better part of ’96”, he ranked eleventh in the world, but now he’s an unseeded, washed up 31-year-old struggling to accept his inevitable descent into obscurity. Before he reluctantly accepts a role as tennis director of a private club (full of lascivious older ladies), he’s set to play his last Wimbledon.

An Indiana Jones movie without Steven Spielberg – will be like going to see the Sugababes after Mutya left, or the weird later seasons of The West Wing when Aaron Sorkin wasn’t around anymore. Indy and Spielberg; Spielberg and Indy. They’re tied together, like an estranged father and son in a Nazi castle they’ve accidentally set on fire. There is, however, one person who’s not fearing that at all: Steven Spielberg. Speaking at a Time magazine event to celebrate the magazine’s centenary, Spielberg revealed that he’d just seen Dial Of Destiny in the company of its director, and loved what its new custodian had done with it.
Speaking out about seeing the film, he was full of praise. “I just had that experience two nights ago. Bob Iger had a screening for a lot of the Disney executives and I came to the screening along with James Mangold,...

A fond look back at UK comedy drama Teachers, starring a pre-The Walking Dead and post-This Life Andrew Lincoln...
Fifteen years ago, Andrew Lincoln wasn’t the guy from The Walking Dead. He wasn’t even the creepy guy from Love Actually (the one with the signs. Not any of the other creepy guys). No, he was the guy from This Life that was getting a show all of his own in which to charm the viewing masses. That show was Teachers. And charm us he did.
Set in a secondary school in Bristol, Teachers was good enough to make us actually want to go back to school – or, for those of us who were still at school when it started, to wonder if some of the ridiculous rumours we were making up about the staff shagging each other might actually be true after all.

It was an unexpected X Factor this evening for the first Judges' Houses. The results were announced live, with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell naming the three acts they'd be taking to the Live shows from the Groups and the Overs.
Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora have yet to make their decisions, but tonight had plenty of talking points, particularly from Simon's camp. Digital Spy was watching along and had a look at what the general public were thinking. Here is a round-up of the best tweets:
Bupsi got nasty for the 10 millionth time:
If Louis Walsh was still a judge, he'd by telling Bupsi that she reminds him of a young Sinitta. #XFactor

Boot Camp lasted five weeks - yes, that's right, five weeks - but tonight, we finally have some progression, and the final 24 are off to Judges' Houses to be whittled down to the final 12. Cheryl takes the Groups to Rome, Simon takes the Overs to the South of France, Rita takes the Girls to La... and Nick takes the Boys to the Cotswolds. Awkward.
Join us from 8pm and we'll bring you all the action live as it happens. We can't wait to comment on all of the judges' interior design prowess (and also, we suppose, whether the acts are any good). In the meantime, here's 8 of the past best ever Judges' Houses moments - we wonder what kind of tears, celebrity cameos and pool-jumping antics we've got in store this evening?

Mr Motivator has departed BBC One's gymnastics show Tumble.
The fitness expert and former GMTV personality dislocated his knee during a trial run of the show.
Mr Motivator, whose real name is Derrick Evans, will need to undergo surgery to correct the damage done to his knee.
Evans said that he was "devastated" not to be able to continue in what he describes as an "amazing experience".
"A heartfelt thanks goes to all the team but especially my gymnastics partner Kerry and coach Alberto, who have been so supportive and brilliant to work with - I'm sorry our journey has been broken this way," he added.
Former Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan will replace Evans, it has been reported.
BBC recently released the first cast photo for its upcoming primetime show.

The 25-year-old said she had hoped that ITV's celebrity diving contest would be "like Strictly Come Dancing on the water", but quickly realised that the most rewarding part of the show would be her pay cheque.

"It could have been amazing like Strictly Come Dancing on the water - it wasn't. If I'm really honest they paid me amazingly, I only had to dive once. I was very happy."

"He's such a nice guy as well.

While the 24-year-old singer - who won 'The X Factor' on Sunday (09.12.12) - is contracted to Simon Cowell's Syco label to make his first album, the '99 Problems' hitmaker is prepared to fork out millions to get him out of his contract because he believes the 'Impossible' star can crack the Us. A source told the Daily Star newspaper: ''Jay-z is a keen spotter of British talent and is already involved with Rita Ora, K Koke and worked with Tinchy Stryder and Sugababes too. Gary Numan has never gone out of fashion, it seems, if you listen to artists from Prince to Lady Gaga including him in their lists of influential pioneers of modern music.
He first appeared on Top of the Pops in 1979 but, while many others from this particularly electronic age that he helped create have fallen by the wayside, he's still going strong, touring and collaborating, most recently with Officers. Below, in an exclusive interview with HuffPost UK, he describes what's changed, and what's remained the same...
You've been heralded as 'ground-breaking'. How deliberate was this, or just a by-product of reaching to create good music?
I don't think anyone sets out to do something groundbreaking, I know I certainly didn't, but I was trying to make music in a new way, thanks to the emerging synth technology at the time. I have always been far more interested in sound than technique,...

'EastEnders' Ricky Norwood's on-screen love split reflected his own heartbreak. The actor had no trouble crying in scenes where his character Arthur 'Fatboy' Chubb was left by prostitute Whitney Dean, as it reminded him of how he was dumped by Sugababes singer Jade Ewen last year. He told Inside Soap magazine: ''Those scenes really choked me up. I was channelling feelings from my real-life break-up - it was like exorcising something. ''It was good for the soul and I was really proud of the episode when I watched it back.'' Ricky dated Jade from 2009 until September last year, and said...

Danny Boyle's supposedly dangerous playlist is nothing of the sort. It just proves we're a nation of stick-in-the-muds and conformists
So the Olympics opening ceremony isn't just going to be Teletubbies Land with sheep? Albion will rise, for the Queen will spontaneously combust when she hears God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols. A living flame will light the way. Her maj may have been lulled into submission by Gary Barlow and entertained by man of the people Jimmy Carr, but the leaked playlist planned by Danny Boyle is dangerous, man.
There is Relax by Frankie. Sex! There is a bit of Underworld. Drugs – well, lager. There is some Oasis. Rock'n'roll. There is some Handel and stodgy old Clash. For the laydeez there is some Mia and Sugababes. And, of course, some Mike Oldfield and that other famous Brit, Michael Jackson.
It's all very jolly and an essentially British playlist.

Jennifer Ellison has revealed that she is struggling to regain her confidence after slicing her head open with a skate on last week's Dancing on Ice. Responding to tabloid reports that she has had "a big problem" stepping back into the rink, the actress confirmed during a Daybreak appearance with pro partner Daniel Whiston that they have yet to put together a new routine. "After the accident I went into shock and that's had a bit of a knock-on effect," she said. "Monday, I was in shock [when] I went back on the ice. "I kind of took a funny turn so they cancelled training [and on] Tuesday I just couldn't stop crying." Showing that she was trying to stay positive about the incident, Ellison then joked that she would be dancing to 'Hole In The Head' by co-star Heidi Range's band Sugababes (more)...

So this is what I know about Pixie Lott: easy-ish on the eye, she falls into that Sugababes, Saturdays genre of ‘girl pop’ that I avoid at all costs, and she released that ‘Mama Do’ track that drove me to the brink of despair a couple of summers ago. That’s my guitar music loving, chauvinistic view of Ms Lott thus far. Oh, and she was a terrible judge on The X Factor. Wait. I don’t watch The X Factor. I’m cool and ‘indie’. Shut up!
Anyway, with my mind opened as wide as a Craig Colton girdle, I approached Pixie’s sophomore release, ‘Young, Foolish, Happy’, and attempted not to be too damning to someone I might want to take on a date in the future. To The X Factor Live Tour. So here goes…

Sugababes insist Keisha Buchanan's solo work is no "competition" to them. The group, Jade Ewen, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah, have recently started working on their new album, and though their former bandmate is also in the studio recording her debut LP, the "Get Sexy" hitmakers insist there is no rivalry.
