Filmmaker Mohamed Diab (Cairo 678) directed the first, third, fifth, and sixth episodes of Marvel Studios' Moon Knight, surely making him a top contender to take charge of another story featuring the character.

The Disney+ series ended on a huge cliffhanger; while Marc Spector and Steven Grant seemingly rid themselves of Khonshu, we'd later learn that a third personality - Jake Lockley - was secretly working as the Moon God's enforcer.

Updates on plans for Moon Knight have been few and far between over the past two years and Diab shared what he knows about the Fist of Khonshu's future in an interview with Deadline.

"You never know - with Marvel nothing is called finished. There could be a film, or he could go into another universe," the filmmaker shared. "Right now nothing is in talks but I definitely with Moon Knight, I would love to be involved in anything else...

The world seems more ready for Marvel than ever before and it all has to do with the success of Deadpool and Wolverine. The franchise had, by no means, fallen from grace, but it had been struggling to match its decade-long string of success in recent years, with a number of critical and commercial underperformers. Now, it's in a state of renaissance, as its most recent installment has brought the film series back to its legendary heights, achieving both critical acclaim, and incredible box office success, becoming its 11th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to cross $1 billion.

Still, there are some steps being taken behind the scenes to ensure that the studio's recent shortcomings are a one-and-done thing. And with that, Marvel has reportedly gone back to the drawing board to build upon some of its recent success stories and seal the fates of those outings that didn't quite reach the same heights.

Many Marvel fans expected Doctor Doom's arrival at the MCU after the fallout with Jonathan Majors who played Kang the Conqueror. What probably no one was expecting was Robert Downey Jr.'s return, as Doctor Doom.

The announcement during 2024's San Diego Comic-Con definitely turned heads and shook the very core of the MCU. Many are ecstatic whereas others are confused as Downey Jr.'s MCU role had been Iron Man and last we checked, he died a most heroic death.

Regardless, this news had us thinking, about which other Marvel stars would we like to see return to the MCU. We compiled a short list of 5 actors and actresses we think should make a return.

It’s been two years since Moon Knight debuted on Disney+ and after what has felt like an endless wait, it seems Marvel Studios is finally working on a second season of its breakout Oscar Isaac-led series.

While nothing has been officially confirmed or announced by Marvel Studios, Daniel Rpk is among the many Marvel insiders currently reporting that Marvel is actively developing a second season of Moon Knight. Should Marvel officially renew Moon Knight, the series will become only the second live-action Disney+ Marvel show to land a second season – though it seems Ms. Marvel season 2 is also being mulled by Disney execs so perhaps the list will grow even more soon.

Moon Knight’s first season most certainly set up a second season with the season ending with the official introduction of Steven Grant’s third alter-ego, Jake Lockley, who was seen working with Khonshu in the final scene of the season.

Marvel’s Moon Knight undoubtedly deserves its place among the range of MCU series that have found success of late. Released in March 2022, the 6-episode strong introduced Oscar Isaac as the titular superhero who suffered from Dissociative identity disorder, as fans got to appreciate the character’s personalities, portrayed expertly by the actor.

However, when Isaac was first revealed as Moon Knight via the trailer, fans had a range of understandable questions. The doubt most prominently resonated from the kind of squeamish, almost idiotic accent that Moon Knight showed off, uttering phrases such as “aye, aye cap’n,” and “bloody hell.’

“Deadpool and Wolverine” has taken the US and worldwide box office by storm with the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine coupled with Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool proving a mouth-watering match for superhero fans across the globe.

The film, directed by Shawn Levy, features the Time Variance Authority (the Tva) with Matthew Macfadyen starring in a key role as a Tva agent. This organization manages and maintains the various timelines across the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and they originated on-screen in the Disney+ TV series “Loki,” starring Tom Hiddleston as the titular anti-hero. This was one of many MCU shows that fans flocked to watch.

Gus Fring's war with Walter White may have blown up in his face, but Giancarlo Esposito walked away from "Breaking Bad" with a revitalized career. He's one of Hollywood's greatest working heavies, with his roles as Moff Gideon on "The Mandalorian" and Stan Edgar on "The Boys" to prove it.

As a result, he's been fancast as countless Marvel characters -- and those wishes finally came true. The recently released trailer for "Captain America: Brave New World" dropped a look at Esposito's character, and he's a ruthless, gun-toting mercenary/terrorist clad in sunglasses and a leather trench coat.

Ever since The Mandalorian and The Boys star Giancarlo Esposito confirmed that he'd been cast in a mystery MCU role, speculation has run wild about who he might be playing. 

The actor confirmed he'd debut in a movie before showing up in a Disney+ TV series and set photos have since revealed his big screen project as Captain America: Brave New World. Esposito was enlisted for reshoots and a first look at his unnamed character showed him in tactical gear wielding several knives and what appears to be an axe.

Typically, a set photo like that would make it clear who an actor is playing; as things stand, we're no closer to knowing for sure who the Breaking Bad alum has been cast as. Or are we?

A new rumour is floating around online (we think it's more of a theory than anything) which suggests Esposito is playing Moon Knight villain Bushman.

As far as the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes, "Moon Knight" occupies a strange place. Starring Oscar Isaac in the lead role, it involves a superhero with a personality disorder, with the whole show steeped in Egyptian lore. It's unique in and amongst the vast sea of other superhero stuff out there. That was made clear even from the show's opening moments, which see Ethan Hawke's villain Arthur Harrow pouring broken glass in his shoes before walking around in them somewhat casually. It was a twisted moment, particularly for the historically PG-13 MCU. It turns out this moment came from the mind of Hawke himself.

In a 2022 interview with Yahoo, the actor, known for his work in movies like "Training Day" and "Sinister," was asked about the moment in question. Hawke explained that it all stemmed from him trying to figure out the character. In the end, he ended up...

Alongside the sharp direction from Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, Moon Knight stands out as one of the stronger MCU Disney+ shows. Depicting versatile actor Oscar Isaac in a fascinating dual-personality role juggling between two worlds of Marc Spector and Steven Grant, this series pulled the viewer’s heartstrings in six episodes. However, this compelling adventure has not been continued despite its massive success and eight Emmy nominations.

But fans who have grown attached to the Khonshu avatar are not willing to let go just yet. They are fervently calling for the renewal of the show, especially after witnessing Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye getting renewed for another season. It seems Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios may need to reconsider his decision regarding the show after seeing this.

Kasperlike, who earned an Emmy nomination for her work on the Marvel Studios series, was kind enough to break down the intricate process behind creating Oscar Isaac's now-iconic super suit, as well as crafting unique costumes for Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley.

Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk had one of the most stagnant character arcs in the MCU, despite the hero being a crucial part of the Avengers team. While behind-the-scenes issues played a major part in the MCU’s failure to explore this character, even solving those issues may no longer help Hulk’s story. The universe has already introduced another superhero dealing with multiple personality disorder — Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight — which undermines the Hulk’s defining characteristic from the comics.

Nearly two years have passed since Moon Knight first premiered on Disney+ and Oscar Isaac's Steven Grant was introduced into the MCU, with so many fans wondering if a Season 2 of the show will ever be released.

Moon Knight featured lead actor Oscar Isaac in a role that forced him to play many different characters who all shared the same physical body due to his suffering from dissociative identity disorder.

A headache-inducing episode of Loki gets underway in the 1800s this week, as Ravonna Renslayer finally pops up on the Sacred Timeline with Miss Minutes in tow. He Who Remains’ promise in the season one finale – that if Sylvie killed him he’d just end up right back on top – seems to hinge on a plan to kickstart a kind of causal loop, where a past variant receives a copy of Ob’s Tva guidebook and is inspired to create all manner of technological inventions, including a rough version of the temporal loom.

There are positives and negatives to this trip back in time. It’s great to have Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Tara Strong back as the ruthless Renslayer and Miss Minutes respectively. The pair are dynamite together here, and I’m still fully able to suspend my disbelief and buy into the talking animated clock...

It’s over! It’s officially over. Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally in our rear view mirror, and what did we learn? We learned that Marvel Studios wasn’t going to stop taking risks after capping off Phase 3 with the box office juggernaut of Avengers: Endgame. In fact, they were going to take more risks than ever. Sometimes, those risks paid off. Other times, they did not. But during a transformative time for the MCU, Phase 4 was, for the most part, determined not to offer the one thing that would have made older fans happy but would have perhaps discouraged newer, younger fans from emerging: more of the same.

The star of "Breaking Bad," "Better Call Saul," and "The Boys" (along with several famous Spike Lee joints) has already worked on a handful of Mouse House projects, on top of playing a "Star Wars" villain. That leaves the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the next big Disney property for Esposito to tackle, and he's made no secret of the fact he's got his eye on portraying a certain bald-headed mentor to the X-Men.

But more than merely gunning to succeed Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Esposito has confirmed he's spoken with Marvel Studios about other MCU roles in the past. For Moon Knight, it was important for costume designer Meghan Kasperlik to put in the research and honor the ancient Egyptian influences. The series is nominated for eight Emmys, including Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes for Kasperlik.

The Disney+ series follows Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac), who discovers he has been granted the powers of the Egyptian moon god Khonsu. Kasperlik incorporated Egyptian symbols into the costumes, with hieroglyphs, Khonsu’s oath, and mummy wrappings, to honor not only the Moon Knight comic series, but the ancient Egyptian story of Khonsu as well.

The series finale “Gods and Monsters” was chosen by Kasperlik for Emmy consideration due to the number of custom-built suits and monsters shown. Taweret’s costume was special for Kasperlik, as each member of her team had a hand in the hippopotamus goddess’s look.

Deadline: What did the creators of the series have in mind for the costume design?...

It didn’t take very long for the ancient god Khonshu to become a breakout character from the Disney+ Marvel series “Moon Knight.” In the show’s second episode, Khonshu – a giant figure with a large bird skull for his head who was voiced on the show by Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham – implores his avatar Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac) to dispatch the villain with a bit of casual violence. “Kill him! Break his windpipe,” Khonshu grumbles with urgency.

“That seems to be a very popular line,” Abraham tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview. “On the street, people recognize me, and they’ll shout it to me. It’s really outrageous.”

“Why else would we be in Cairo?” When Oscar Isaac asked that question in a viral TikTok video with director Mohamed Diab, it sparked hopes that a new season of Moon Knight was in the works. After all, since the first season ended its run in May, there has been no clear sign of what the future holds for Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Between the show’s lack of clear connection to the rest of the MCU and the single-season deal signed by Isaac, many wondered if the series would return for another go around at all. With the snap of a Kevin Feige’s finger, “Avengers: Endgame” might not have been the end of Chris Evans as Captain America.

Disney+ series “Moon Knight” was set to include a possible series of cameos, including Evans reprising his famed, decade-long role as Steven Rogers. “Moon Knight” writer Jeremy Slater revealed to Discussing Film that the Oscar Isaac-led Marvel installment was prime for other MCU appearances, but ultimately the series opted to stand more on its “own two feet” in the canon.

“There were definitely different times in the writing process where we talked about cameos because cameos are one of the most fun things to discuss in a writer’s room,” Slater said, reflecting on the series. “What happens if we try to get Chris Evans back as old Captain America? You know, you sit there and play that ‘what if’ game among your writers.”

Even those disappointed by Moon Knight had to admit that Jake Lockley was pretty cool. When Marc Spector’s third personality revealed himself as a newsboy-cap-wearing, Spanish-speaking tough guy, reservations about the series were kicked aside, like a discarded hospital wheelchair. Sadly, Lockley only made one appearance in the show, revealed to still be working as Khonshu’s assassin, despite the moon god’s deal with Spector and Steven Grant. But if Moon Knight does get a second season, we’re sure to see much more of Jake.

It’s been a great season for large-scale, character-driven, socially relevant sci-fi dramas: Marvel/Disney+’s time-jumping “Loki” and mind-bending “Moon Knight;” Isaac Asimov’s legendary “Foundation” (Apple TV+); the sequel to Nicolas Roeg’s cult classic, “The Man Who Fell to Earth” (Showtime); the latest Star Trek” and “Star Wars” spin-offs, “Strange New Worlds” (Paramount+) and “The Book of Boba Fett” (Lucasfilm/Disney+); and the return of the blockbuster “Stranger Things” (Netflix).

But as you break the shows down in terms of their Emmy crafts potential and how they stack up against one other, four big questions emerge:

1. Can “Loki” and “Moon Knight” Pull a “WandaVision”?

What they offer: After the wild retro TV antics of “WandaVision,” Marvel followed up this season with two trippier shows: “Loki,” in which the titular Norse God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) teamed up with detective Mobius (Owen Wilson) to capture dangerous time criminals,...

“I love the character and I really did enjoy my collaboration with Marvel, so if there was a really interesting take on a story, I’m all ears,” reveals Oscar Isaac about the possibility of one day donning the iconic Moon Knight suit again. One of the best moments in Marvel’s recently ended Moon Knight series is when Layla El-Faouly (May Calamawy) agrees to become the temporary human avatar for the Egyptian goddess Taweret. This happens during a critical juncture in the season finale, when Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac) and the god Khonshu need all the help they can get to defeat the goddess Ammit, who has been released by Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) to bring death to much of humanity.

Layla emerges in an awesome costume, with fearsome powers, and has since been dubbed by Marvel as the Scarlet Scarab. She and Taweret do indeed join the battle, and while Harrow and Ammit are finally defeated, Layla’s future as the avatar of Taweret and as a superhero remains unclear.

"Moon Knight" has completed its run, though there is no way (I have no confirmation for this other than my story sense) that this is the last we'll see of Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Jake Lockley. There are spoilers ahead for the show, so be warned. 

There were Easter eggs in the Disney+ series, but one of them could have been about Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors in the "Loki" series. Of course, the "Loki" version was He Who Remains, but we know that Kang will likely be a big bad going forward, at least in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania."
