Bal Gangadhar Tilak(1856-1920)
Indian nationalist, scholar, and philosopher. He was born in Ratnagiri
during British rule of India in 1956. After teaching mathematics, he
was owner and editor of 2 weekly newspapers. A militant member of the
'extremist' wing within the Indian National Congress (and a member of
the famous 'Lal, Pal and Bal' trio), he was twice imprisoned by the
British for his nationalist activities. He helped to found the Home
Rule League in 1914.
