While the trailers set up The Cut as another run-of-the-mill boxing rehabilitation story, director Sean Ellis had bigger ambitions. His film focuses less on fights and more on the rigorous preparations between rounds.
At its heart is Orlando Bloom’s gripping performance as a worn-out Irish boxer desperate for one final title shot. But to get in the ring, he must first wage a dangerous battle many have never seen—dropping over 30 pounds in just one week—to qualify for the match.
We’re introduced to Bloom’s character a decade after blowing a championship. Now running a small gym, an offer arises to replace an injured fighter. But he’s well over the weight limit. So our boxer and his coach Caitlin travel to Las Vegas, embarking on an unflinching look at extreme weight cutting.
What follows isn’t a stylized training montage either. Ellis immerses us in the relentless physicality,...

Matthew Perry’s Mother Reacts to Criminal Charges in His Death and Talks ‘Friends’ Star’s Final Days
Matthew Perry’s family is remembering the late Friends star and looking ahead to the criminal trial for two of the people charged in connection with his death.
In an interview that aired on the Today show on Monday, the one year anniversary of Perry’s death at the age of 54 from the acute effects of ketamine, Perry’s mother Suzanne Morrison, his stepfather Dateline correspondent Keith Morrison and three of his sisters — Caitlin, Emily and Madeline Morrison — looked back at Perry’s final days and what they’ll remember about their late family member.
Suzanne recalled feeling, shortly before Perry died, that “there was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him, and he felt it very strongly.”
“He went through a period, interestingly enough, just before he died when he was showing me one of his new houses,” she said in the sit-down with NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie.

In light of the news that All My Children is potentially being rebooted as a holiday movie on Lifetime, Soap Hub reached out to a few of your favorite Sunset Beach alums to see their thoughts about the potential to bring their show back.
Sb History
Sb aired on NBC from January 6, 1997 to December 31, 1999. Sb was the first and only daytime soap opera created by Aaron Spelling. It also marked NBC’s return to new daytime dramas since the network canceled Generations in 1991.
Sam Behrens (Gregory)
How would you feel about a reboot as a movie for Sb? As unlikely as it is, I’d be tickled.
Where do you see Gregory at this point? Well, I haven’t given much thought to the show since it went off the air. Perhaps he and Olivia would be in their rockers on the back porch swatting flies Olivia identifies with. That’s a funny thought.

AppleTV+’s surprise big hit of the year, action-comedy Bad Monkey, is over, and I’m not going to lie, a part of me wishes there was more. I think it’s the easy wit with which Yancy carries himself that makes this show really work. Sure, it’s got a good mystery and a lot of “sitting on the edge of your seat” situations, but at the heart of the show is Yancy, a character who is undeniably (and obnoxiously) loveable. It’s ironic how Yancy’s so beloved by those around him, but he’s so desperate to get the one thing that he’s not meant to have that he slowly loses it all. I mean, sure, the bad guys get their comeuppance, but so do some of the good guys, and I’m not sure what to make of that. I guess people make mistakes and lose their way,...

The finale of Bad Monkey is certainly no less than grand; however, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t heavily disappointed. There is such a thing as poetic justice, and then there is painful sacrifice. I suppose what we’ve all got to learn from the show though is how to “let go.” This doesn’t just apply to the protagonist, Yancy, but also to everyone else involved in the whole Andros drama. Sometimes, no matter how desperately we want something, if it’s not meant to happen, we will suffer trying to hold onto it. Episode 10 starts off right where episode 9 ended, with Eve and Gracie, or rather the Dragon Queen, having a face-off, just as the storm approaches. The Dragon Queen nicks Eve’s chin and then tells her that the island demands a sacrifice and she’s going to be the one to make it.

By now, boxing movies are such an overplayed genre, it’s tough for any filmmaker to innovate how the sport appears on screen. Sean Ellis’ “The Cut” finds a way around that problem by focusing on physical and psychological struggles outside the ring, especially the grueling battle to make weight. The film tries several things at once, including a flashback structure than doesn’t fully connect, but its impact ultimately comes down to Orlando Bloom’s visceral, transformative performance as an unnamed Irish brawler.
Bloom’s protagonist — referred to as “the Boxer” in press notes, and frustratingly, nothing at all in the movie — can be seen engaged in a professional boxing bout exactly once in “The Cut.” During the film’s brief prologue, the accomplished prizefighter seems well on his way to another victory, when something mysterious and unseen distracts him from off-screen — something in the ether that only he...

For about five minutes, “The Cut” gives the audience what they’d expect from a movie set in the world of boxing. A fighter played by Orlando Bloom is in the ring, and the action is ferocious, and ferociously photographed in bruising closeups. The punches are thunderous, the blood flows, and you know just what you’re going to get: another tough drama about an over-the-hill boxer getting one last shot at the big time.
And then director Sean Ellis and writer Justin Bull pull the rug out from under the audience – because that opening sequence in the ring is the last time boxing action is going to be center stage in “The Cut.” From there, it becomes a boxing drama in which the focus isn’t the fight, it’s the weigh-in, and in which the real violence isn’t the punching, it’s the dieting.

Anybody who came of age during peak Orlando Bloom — when the British actor became an impossibly pretty early 2000s sex symbol as the long-haired Legolas in “Lord of the Rings” or the swashbuckling Will Turner in “Pirates of the Caribbean” — will likely get a bit of whiplash watching the actor’s left-turn pivot in “The Cut.” A sports drama with traces of body horror in its veins, director Sean Ellis’ film roughs up Bloom’s spotless face with some prosthetics (seamlessly done by make-up designer Mark Coulier) to play an unnamed retired Irish boxer desperate for a second chance at stardom.
Private school educated and longterm partner of Katy Perry, Bloom isn’t exactly a natural choice for such a down-and-out type, but the broken nose and droopy eyelids he puts on do successfully dispel most of his inherent movie star glamor. And yet, watching the film, there’s something...

Sean Ellis’s sixth feature, following the deliriously atmospheric 19th-century vampire movie Eight for Silver (2021), is yet another curveball from the criminally underrated British director. Titled The Cut, it is the story of a past-his-prime boxer who goes behind his wife Caitlin’s back to accept a lucrative comeback fight in Las Vegas. But this is not yet another Rocky-style underdog story, the kind that culminates in the ring. Instead, it is a sometimes-shocking psychological thriller, a sort of boxing procedural that details the extreme lengths that cornered fighters will go to. On paper, it sounds like Southpaw, but in reality, it has a little more in common with this year’s Cannes hit The Substance, a visceral body-horror movie about a fading starlet (Demi Moore) and her desperate drive to maintain her fame.

Bad Monkey is that show that you can watch with your buddies and discuss theories about what may happen next every week because it’s just so gosh darn fun. At the end of episode 4, Yancy is in a tough situation after Eve tells Nick to get rid of the massive guy. Single-armed Nick decided to smack the guy on the back of his head with a blunt object. Episode 5 starts right where episode 4 ended with Yancy on the floor and Nick hovering above him. This isn’t a Game of Thrones spinoff, so there’s no need to worry for Yancy’s life, but maybe a...

Amber Portwood sounded alarm bells last week when she announced that her fiance, Gary Wayt, went missing from a North Carolina cabin on June 9. Portwood went public with the relationship months ago and recently introduced “Gary 2.0” on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. Still, little was known about Wayt before his disappearance. Now that he’s been found safe, his backstory is coming into clearer focus.
Gary Wayt was married before meeting Amber Portwood
Most people didn’t know who Gary Wayt was until last week. While we still have limited information about Amber Portwood’s maybe-fiance, In Touch has reported that the 39-year-old Wayt was married once before.
According to court documents the publication procured, Wayt was married to a woman named Caitlin for less than three years. The duo wed in July 2016 and parted ways in January 2019. Their divorce, which appears to have been straightforward and uncomplicated, was finalized...

The NCIS universe is getting a complete transformation for the upcoming TV season as the franchise will finally launch two more spinoffs revolving around the original show’s beloved characters and thus leaving the whole notion of location-based series in the past (at least for a while).
Apart from NCIS season 22 and NCIS: Origins that will take viewers back to the beginning of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ career, CBS’ long-standing franchise will also make a return to Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David’s story that was dropped as soon as both quit the original series.
With all the high hopes fans cherish for the upcoming show, the latter also serves as a reminder that the beloved story would never have made it to the screens if it hadn’t been for another major character’s sacrifice.

Caitlin Clark can earn up to $500,000 during her rookie season, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert has claimed in an effort to quell outrage on the No. 1 draft choice’s low base salary.
The former Iowa star will make just $76,535 in base salary from the Indiana Fever, part of a four-year, $338,056 deal with the team. When that was revealed, outrage ensued, as the base is much lower than a comparable NBA amount.
Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 pick in last year’s NBA draft, signeda four-year, $55.2 million rookie contract, the largest possible deal under the NBA’s current labor agreement. That comes to roughly $12 million in base salary as a rookie.
Engelbert has now clarified that Clark will likely make far more.
“[For a] CEO, do you just put the base pay in there? No, you put their bonus, you put their stock options, you put everything,” Engelbert said at a CNBC Changemakers event, according to NJ.

The 22-year-old athlete was the No. 1 draft pick for the Indiana Fever during the 2024 WNBA Draft earlier this week.
On Wednesday (April 17), she had her first official press conference as part of the team. During it, Indianapolis Star columnist Gregg Doyel referenced a hand symbol that Caitlin is known for directing toward her family during games.
“Start doing it to me and we’ll get along just fine,” he said, prompting an instant backlash on social media.

As the comment went viral, Gregg issued a formal apology to Caitlin on X (formerly Twitter).

The Indiana Fever introduced Caitlin Clark as their newest superstar, but things didn’t go as smoothly as one might hope. One reporter who covered the event said something to the basketball star that he admitted later was highly “inappropriate.” He has since apologized, but many fans are not letting it go.
Here is what the reporter said and how the fans reacted to the comment.
Reporter Makes Heart-Shaped Hand Sign To Caitlin Clark
When the Indiana Fever introduced Caitlin Clark as their new first-round draft pick, it celebrated her arrival into professional athletics. The idea is that Clark will become one of the most impactful women in the WNBA and might shine a light on the women’s league. However, one moment during her press conference was inappropriate and uncomfortable.

Just days after President Joe Biden decried the wage disparity between female and male athletes, Whoopi Goldberg said on ABC’s The View that ESPN should “sweeten” its deal for the broadcast rights of WNBA games.
After pointing out the Clark will make an initial annual salary of $76,535 as a player for the Indiana Fever, Goldberg then noted, “The entire Fever payroll is $1.2 million. That is less than the minimum salary for a single NBA player with a year’s experience.”
The women players, Goldberg continued, “have the headlines, they have the fans, they have the viewers, when the hell are they going to get paid?” Noting that ESPN and ABC are both part of the “Disney thing,” Goldberg added that ESPN “should have kissed this deal by taking care of all of the WNBA and given them enough money for a bump up because you know you have another deal to make.

After making a joke about Iowa Hawkeyes player Caitlin Clark retiring her jersey for an apron, Michael Che was roasted on the “Weekend Update” segment of “SNL” this week by none other than Clark.
Che opened the bit by saying, “University of Iowa announced that Caitlin Clark will have her jersey retired.” With a smirk and a laugh, he added, “And replaced with an apron.” The crowd didn’t love the joke, and Che playfully said, “Whoa! Well, the WNBA draft is this Monday, and Iowa star Caitlin Clark is expected to be the number one pick. Here to comment is Caitlin Clark.”
To thunderous applause and cheers, Clark appeared at the Weekend Update desk smiling. She and Che sat waiting for the wild clapping to die down before she began roasting Che for his joke about her. “I am a fan, Caitlin, by the way,” Che said.

Michael Che was humbled by basketball star Caitlin Clark when she crashed Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segment after the comedian made a sexist joke at her expense.
“The University of Iowa announced that basketball star Caitlin Clark will have her jersey retired and replaced with an apron,” Che said.
Che then introduced the real Clark ahead of the WNBA draft, where she is expected to be the No. 1 pick overall.
“I am a fan, Caitlin, by the way,” Che told the future WNBA star.
“Really, Michael? Because I heard that little apron joke you did,” Clark clapped back.
Clark called out Che for making a lot of jokes about women’s sports, which the comedian tried to deny. Colin Jost chimed in to say, “It’s definitely a lot,” and exposed Che with a super-cut of his past jokes.
“Unlike Che, I support women,” Jost said, throwing his co-host under the bus.

Ryan Gosling just couldn’t let go of his character Ken from Barbie during his Saturday Night Live monologue.
Though he initially said he wasn’t going to talk about Ken because he “broke up” with the character after going “too deep,” he ultimately decided to sing about his feelings with a rendition of Taylor Swift’s hit song “All Too Well.”
“You know, when you play a character that hard, that long, just letting go feels like a breakup and for processing a breakup, there’s really only one thing that can help: The music of the great Taylor Swift,” the La La Land actor said.
Gosling then proceeded to sing, “I shredded Venice Beach is true / My clothes were tight / But something about that spandex felt so right / I left my rollerblades in that big pink house / But I still got that fur coat and I’ll wear...

“The Flash” has officially crossed the finish line on The CW and with it, the Arrowverse has officially come to an end. So, how exactly did the show wrap up its nine seasons and an entire on-screen universe?
Well, the good news is pretty much everyone got their happy ending. But before we can get to the ending, let’s start at the beginning.
As promised, Tom Cavanaugh indeed returned for the series finale of “The Flash,” and pretty early too. Eobard Thawne was not the only major villain from Barry’s (Grant Gustin) past that returned though. Savitar made an appearance too, along with Karan Oberoi’s Godspeed and a few others.

The following contains major spoilers for the series finale of The Flash.
The Flash Season 9 Episode 13
It’s the end of an era. After nine seasons, over 180 episodes, half a dozen major network crossovers, and countless rogues, The CW’s The Flash has completed its final run (and most likely wrapped up the current incarnation of the DC TV universe as we know it along with it). Though the show’s shortened final season certainly had its issues—the random introduction of a third Snow sister instead of just giving Caitlin an actual story, way too much Cecile, the awkwardness of the “Chellegra” romance—the four-part series finale “A New World” did attempt to bring the story of The Flash full circle, resurrecting Rick Cosnett’s Eddie Thawne and using him to bring balance to the Speed Force; showing us the birth of Barry and Iris’ daughter, Nora; and expanding...

After a couple of interlude episodes, CW’s “The Flash” is back on track, bringing Barry back into action, but somehow the eighth episode of this final season, titled “Partners in Time,” still feels like a filler or interlude. In the previous episode, we saw the Dreamer, aka Nia Nal, get her farewell in the Arrowverse. Mark Blaine left the team and went on a journey of his own after he realized his mistake of forcing Khione to shape herself in the image of his deceased partner, Frost. The pain Khione felt after Mark’s departure manifested into her newfound cryokinetic powers. The eighth episode focuses on Barry and Iris as they struggle with the responsibilities of upcoming parenthood in their own way and once again get into a loop, but unlike the time loop situation in the first episode, this one focuses on being stuck in space.

As The Flash hit the midpoint of its final season, a visit from Nia Nal aka Dreamer brought much drama, but also some updates on Supergirl and a few of her superfriends.
For starters — and as set up during Ryan Wilder aka Batwoman’s recent visit to Central City — Nia (played by Supergirl‘s Nicole Maines) showing up unannounced at Central City Citizen Media to ask Iris for help wasn’t entirely random. Because apparently, Iris took Ryan up on her offer and recently — albeit off-screen, grrr — joined Ryan, Nia, Kara Danvers/Supergirl and her sister Alex/Sentinel for mimosa brunch.

The liited series, which is currently in development at the Disney-backed streamer, is based on Caitlin Flanagan’s November 2017 feature Death at a Penn State Fraternity. The project, like Flanagan’s story, explores fraternity life and specifically tells the story of Tim Piazza who fought for his life for 12 hours before his Beta Theta Pi brothers called 911. By then it was too late. Joe Hortua (Better Things, Home Before Dark) is writing the script and will exec produce alongside author Flanagan and Greenblatt. The latter’s The Green Room partner Jon Wu will serve as a co-ep. Kevin Bray will also exec produce and direct, with The Atlantic...

Smile, out in theaters this Friday, is the “intensely creepy debut feature” from writer/director Parker Finn.
His feature debut makes for an interesting spiritual successor to his 2020 short film, “Laura Hasn’t Slept,” which stars Caitlin Stasey as a woman seeking help from her therapist over her troubling nightmares.
Ahead of Smile‘s release on September 30, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Finn about creating a loose continuation of his short, crafting scares, and teaming up with horror SFX legends for his feature debut.
Finn explained how the idea for Smile came during post-production of his short film.
“I made the short to exist in its own right. I think that’s how all good shorts should exist instead of being a commercial for something bigger. While I was in post, something about the idea kept nagging at me, and this larger story started forming in my head with a different character at its center.
