Anne Kauffman is a New York based free-lance director focused on new work. She is a founding member of The Civilians. With the Civilians: THE LADIES by Anne Washburn (Cherry Lane, Dixon Place, Chashama), MAPLE AND VINE by Jordan Harrison (Humana Festival and Playwrights Horizons) and YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS' DIVORCE (Williamstown, ArtsEmerson and The Flea). Recent work includes: YOU GOT OLDER with P73 at HERE, SMOKEFALL at the Goodman Theater and South Coast Rep, YOUR MOTHER'S COPY OF THE KAMA SUTRA and DETROIT at Playwrights Horizons, 100 DAYS at Z Space in San Francisco (TBA Best New Musical), BELLEVILLE at New York Theater Workshop, Yale Rep and Steppenwolf (Lortel Nomination), CHEROKEE at the Wilma Theater, Other work includes GOD'S EAR and SOMEWHERE FUN at the Vineyard Theater, THIS WIDE NIGHT with Naked Angels (Lortel Nomination), STUNNING at Woolly Mammoth and LCT3, and SLOWGIRL at LCT3. She is a Sundance Program Associate, a member of Soho Rep's Artistic Council, a Drama League alum, and an Associate Artist with Clubbed Thumb and New Georges. From 2000-2006, Anne was on the directing faculty at NYU. She is a recipient of an Obie Award, the Joan and Joseph Cullman Award for Exceptional Creativity from Lincoln Center; Lilly Award, the Alan Schneider Director Award, and three Barrymore Awards for Direction.
