Geoff Leonard
After early years' education at Cotham Grammar School, Geoff Leonard wasted much of his working life through employment by NatWest Bank, before coming to his senses in the early nineties.
Since then he has dabbled as an independent record producer, co-writer (with Pete Walker) of notes for many soundtrack albums, and co-writer of several magazine articles, including many for 007 Magazine and Music from the Movies. He is an acknowledged authority on the music of John Barry and that of his first band, The John Barry Seven, and has co-written five books on the subjects. One of his proudest moments was in co-writing the programme notes for John Barry's return to the concert hall at The Royal Albert Hall in 1998. He also provided extensive research for a six-part BBC Radio programme, 'The Real John Barry', and compiled 'Themependium', a 100-track John Barry box-set for Sony/BMG.
In the early 2000s, he returned to full-time employment with IMDb.com, and as a data-manager, oversaw biographies, composers and the music-department, amongst other tasks. He retired after nine years loyal service in order to continue writing. He is a keen photographer of wildlife and steam trains, and can often be found at Avon Valley Railway, where he is a member. He is a life member of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, and an armchair follower of Bristol Rovers. He has recently written his first novel, 'The Misadventures of a Very Uncivil Servant'; 'It's Only a Game', in which he looks back at many years of playing and watching cricket; and 'Triumphs, Disasters and Near Misses', a factual account of memorable Gloucestershire County Cricket Club matches. Further books ranging from a biography of Adam Faith to a 'Best of British TV Themes' are expected to follow.
