Peacock has announced a premiere date for its new upcoming suspense thriller series starring Amanda Seyfried, and it’s sooner than you think. Seyfried will lead the adaptation of author Liz Moore’s best-selling novel Long Bright River.
The series premieres Monday, March 13, 2025 on Peacock. The show will feature 8 episodes and—praise the gods of television—they will all be released in one fell swoop. Lucky us.
In a nutshell, the novel tells a powerful story about two sisters and the destruction of addiction. Long Bright River builds on this and is centered around Philadelphia police officer Mickey Fitzpatrick (Seyfried), who patrols an area hit particularly hard by the tragic opioid crisis. When a series of murders start happening in her neighborhood, Mickey realizes the case might be connected to her own personal history, per the synopsis.

“Beautiful Ugly,” a new novel from author Alice Feeney, will be adapted for the screen.
Hidden Pictures, the production company founded in 2022 by Todd Lieberman, has acquired the rights to the book and plans to develop a film version of the psychological thriller.
“Beautiful Ugly” was published on Jan. 14 and landed on the New York Times best-seller list in its first week. The story follows a writer named Grady Green who happens to be on the phone with his wife Abby when she slams on her car brakes and gets out of the vehicle before the call cuts to silence. He eventually finds her car by the cliff’s edge; the driver’s door is open and her cell is there, but Abby is nowhere to be found. A year later, while still bereft, he travels to a tiny Scottish village where he sees a woman who looks exactly like his missing wife.

Amanda Seyfried is having a bit of a renaissance over the past several years. After breaking out in a big way thanks to roles in films like “Mean Girls” and “Mamma Mia!” her career took a bit of a dive. Not necessarily a bad thing, of course, but a noticeable dip. That changed when she landed a role in David Fincher’s “Mank” and then, of course, her award-winning role in “The Dropout.” Now, she’s back with a new TV show, “Long Bright River,” that could also earn her a bit of awards season buzz.

It's true that all movies start as words on a page, but this gets you maybe a tenth of the way down the road to a completed film -- and even if you embark on this journey with a brilliantly crafted screenplay, there are still a myriad of opportunities to make an absolute dog along the way. That's because filmmaking is a highly collaborative art form. Everyone, from the director to the cinematographer to the editor to the production and costume designers needs to be dedicated to properly serving that terrific screenplay.
One of the most important stages in film production is, of course, casting. There is an art to great casting (which is why it now has its own Oscar), particularly when it comes to piecing together a comedy. Again, it's not just a matter of bringing together some of the funniest people on the planet. You need look...

The work of Edgar Allan Poe has been adapted for the big and small screen numerous times over the years, with several of the legendary writer's stories influencing Mike Flanagan's recent retelling of The Fall of the House of Usher.
The acclaimed Netflix miniseries put its own unique spin on The Masque of the Red Death, and we're now hearing that a feature adaptation is in the works. Deadline reports that A24 and Picturehouse are developing the project, with Charlie Polinger set to write and direct.
This take on the short story is described as "wildly revisionist and darkly comedic." Sydney Sweeney is in talks to play the lead role. No details on her character were disclosed, but we assume it'll be a gender-switched take on Prince Prospero.

Most recently, the acclaimed filmmaker was interested in exploring what the production of Salome would mean in our current culture. That led him to write the script for Seven Veils, about a...

While Ariana Grande has iconically made Wicked’s Glinda her own, she went through a long audition process and had to compete against many other seasoned performers to get the role. Stephen Schwartz’s affecting music and lyrics have made the story the second-highest-grossing musical of all time and turned the Wicked characters of Glinda and Elphaba into beloved pop culture icons. Naturally, the Good Witch of the South represented a dream career challenge for many actresses, having been set as one of those impossible-to-repeat roles in Kristin Chenoweth’s immortal 2003 performance.
Reviews for Wicked have shown no shortage of praise for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s fantastic characterization — especially in Wicked’s powerful ending — making it feel like they were born to bring these characters to the big screen. Clearly, the talented artists weren’t the only ones considered for a part in Wicked, as the movie’s...

Last Friday, stylists-to-the-stars Elizabeth Stewart and Jordan Grossman — who founded the nonprofit Chic Relief during the pandemic — were packing pieces for five personal friends who lost their homes in the fires. The idea was to help them rebuild their closets after they’d lost everything. “And we thought, ‘You know what? We think we can do this for a lot more people!'” says Stewart.
In the days since, Stewart and Grossman have launched an ambitious effort to clothe and assist hundreds of families who lost everything in the Los Angeles fires. They’re not alone. A growing network of stylists, celebrities, Hollywood executives and creatives have joined in (or are working on their own) to extend the reach of relief efforts.

“I know our stories speak to people because I am stopped everywhere by old and young; white and Black; Christian, and Hindu, and they say, ‘We love your show,'” Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. told TV Insider in a preview for the eleventh season of his fascinating genealogy series, Finding Your Roots, that since has traced notable Americans’ family trees since 2012. Finding Your Roots is back and delivering just as many jaw-dropping revelations as ever. The Season 11 premiere, “Larger than Life,” began with a genealogical study of actress Amanda Seyfried, which revealed that her father’s mysterious family history was filled with some serious scandal. Host Henry Louis Gates, Jr. revealed to the Emmy-winning actress that his team traced her paternal heritage back four generations to a man named John Peter Ebert, who’d been born in Germany in 1844 and immigrated to the United States, where he settled down in Allentown, Pennsylvania — just a few miles from where Seyfried grew up. After initially working as a baker’s apprentice and then as a baker for a public home for the poor, he had his own shop by age 35 and shared four children with his wife, whose name, perhaps not coincidentally, was also Amanda. As uplifting as his personal success story was,...

Following Golden Globe wins for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director, The Brutalist filmmaker Brady Corbet offered some food for thought Sunday: “Final cut tie-break goes to the director.”
This, said Corbet, is “sort of a controversial statement,” though “it shouldn’t be controversial at all.”
The Brutalist proved one of tonight’s big repeat winners, setting the stage for what may be a big night at the Oscars. Still, Corbet recalled that there was a time he was told his film was “undistributable…that no one would come out and see it.”
Corbet “was told the film wouldn’t work, and I don’t resent that,” he reflected. “But I want to use this as an opportunity to lift up filmmakers — not just my fellow nominees, but all the extraordinary directors in this room.”

Production has officially begun on The Housemaid, a film adaptation of Freida McFadden's bestselling thriller, with Sydney Sweeney in the leading role. The movie will see Sweeney starring as Millie Calloway, a young woman who takes a seemingly straightforward housekeeping job with the Winchester Family, only to unravel dark secrets within the home. The novel gained massive popularity due to its layered psychological drama, making it a respectable candidate for a film adaptation.
The announcement was shared via Instagram under the film's official account, @housemaidmovie. The cast, which includes Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, director Paul Feig, and Michele Morrone, used a popular BookTok review/audio from user @cedelove_, whose review of the novel helped catapult the novel to a viral success, with the cast seen on set reading the original novel instead of the script. Tom Holland will be best known to most audiences for his role as Spider-Man in the MCU, and understandably so. The actor first played the iconic superhero in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, returning in two Avengers films and leading three solo movies, culminating with Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. Now, he's set to play the character once more in the announced Spider-Man 4, but he'll likely also be showing up in movies like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Holland, however, also has a number of titles under his belt outside of the MCU. His first major movie was actually The Impossible in 2012, and he has since appeared in movies like In the Heart of the Sea (2015), The Devil All the Time (2020), Cherry (2021), and Uncharted (2022). Holland made a major career move in 2023, starring in his first ever TV show, a limited series for Apple TV+.

From the Burn Book to the Naughty List, Jonathan Bennett is hoping to have a Mean Girls holiday reunion one of these years.
With Bennett, Lindsay Lohan and Lacey Chabert each leading their own Christmas projects this year, the Christmas on Cherry Lane actor recently floated the idea of reuniting on a holiday movie, 20 years after starring together in the Tina Fey-written, Mark Waters-directed teen comedy.
“I think what’s so special about the similarities between Mean Girls and Christmas movies is they both have a through line — and that through line is that all these movies make people happy,” he told People. “There’s a huge connection between the fan base of Mean Girls and the fan base of Christmas movies. These are people that want to turn on a movie and feel happier and walk away feeling better. I think that’s what these movies do.

Something other than Santa Claus is coming to town next holiday as Sony plans to release its reimagined Anaconda movie in the Christmas 2025 window. With plans to take a comedic approach to the original 1997 creature feature, The Anaconda stars Jack Black, Paul Rudd, and Daniela Melchoir with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent director Tom Gormican at the helm. The Anaconda slithers alongside other Christmas Day releases, including Paul Feig’s The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, and A24’s ping-pong biopic Marty Supreme, starring Timothee Chalamet.
In addition to getting behind the camera, Tom Gormican wrote Sony’s The Anaconda with Kevin Etten.
1997’s Anaconda focuses on a “National Geographic” film crew taken hostage by an insane hunter who forces them along on his quest to capture the world’s largest—and deadliest—snake. Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, Kari Wuhrer, and Jon Voight lead the cast,...
