In 2016 he directed Nocturnal Animals, an adaptation of the Austin Wright novel Tony and Susan. The film starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Armie Hammer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Laura Linney.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Pedro Borges - After finishing high school, he studied art, design and later architecture in New York. In the early 1980s, Ford moved to Paris to complete his studies at Parsons in France. From 1987 he was in a relationship with the fashion journalist Richard Buckley. In 1990 he became a designer for the ready-to-wear division of the ailing fashion group Gucci. With numerous innovative innovations in fashion, Ford's designs catapulted the Gucci brand to the top of the world's fashion houses within just a few years. After numerous awards, Tom Ford was appointed creative director for all Gucci product lines in 1994, at the age of just 32. His tasks also included advertising and designing commercial buildings worldwide.
His work almost quadrupled the company's profits by 2002. Ford not only created clothing, but also devoted himself, together with board member Domenico De Sole, to the business management of Gucci. The Gucci Group company operates over 180 stores around the world. Because the company was almost taken over by Bernard Arnault's French luxury group LVMH in 2002, it went on a course of expansion itself. Gucci planned to establish itself as a major luxury brand house after taking over Yves Saint Laurent. In addition to clothing and perfume, as in Guccio Gucci's time, the preferred areas of the business were leather goods such as handbags, shoes, belts and luggage. Ford also worked as creative director for the house of Yves Saint Laurent.
An exclusive jewelry line was also created to complement the existing "Timepieces" watch collection. Gucci planned to be present in as many and different luxury areas as possible. In 2003 it was announced that both Tom Ford and President and CEO of the Gucci Group, Domenico De Sole, planned to leave the company at the end of April 2004. The reason given for this was that Ford and De Sole wanted to remain independent of the French group PPR in both marketing decisions and creativity. In March 2004, Tom Ford presented his final ready-to-wear collection for Gucci in Milan. After fruitless negotiations about a collaboration with fashion competitor Versace, Ford initially turned his back on the fashion industry. The experiences he gained there flowed into his autobiography, which the designer presented in autumn 2004.
Tom Ford found a new area of responsibility in 2005 at the cosmetics company Estée Lauder. He built an independent brand there and was responsible for design, advertising and sales. In autumn 2006 he presented the first collections of his own label, and in April 2007 he opened the first Tom Ford flagship store in New York. In 2009 he made his feature film debut as a director with the film "A Single Man", which received an invitation to compete at the 66th Venice Film Festival. The drama, starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, earned Firth a 2010 Oscar nomination for Best Actor. On September 23, 2012, his son Alexander John Buckley Ford was born.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Christian_Wolfgang_Barth

- Considers himself, first and foremost, a commercial designer who finds that filmmaking is what really speaks to his true artistic side.

- If you spend an hour and a half in a movie theater, it should challenge you.
- I had a tiny bit of fashion training, but not really. I had no formal training as a film director either.
- [observation, 2016] I am hoping for a Democratic president - though a female President won't be able to wear my clothes because they're too expensive. And I think that's absolutely right.
- People don't understand it and they will probably laugh when they read this, but fashion is one of the most grueling, brutal industries in the world because we create a constant stream of product that is perishable. And it's speeding up so fast. People consume. They're bored. They consume. They're bored. They consume. They're bored.
- Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think there needs to be - I don't really like the word moral - a moral to the story. You need to think about it. Things can be entertaining, but if you leave the theater and it doesn't stay with you, doesn't haunt you, doesn't challenge you, then it's not successful, for me. So I hope to make films that make one think. [2016]
