Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the most dedicated actors in Hollywood as evident in the roles and projects he takes in. He is not afraid to transform himself to fully embody the character he plays. He may have done it when he portrayed Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but that doesn’t even come close to what he did in Southpaw.

It’s the film that has made many a woman swoon, and solidified Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling as romantic leads. “The Notebook” made its national debut on June 25, 2004, and has become a favorite love story for many movie fans. On this 20th anniversary, let’s look back two decades to see how Nicholas Sparks‘ novel came to the big screen.
Sparks was inspired by the six-decade marriage of his wife’s grandparents, and wanted to write a book capturing a longtime romance. “The Notebook” is a tender story of young forbidden love, heartbreaking separation and passionate reunion, mostly set in 1940s South Carolina, as told by Noah to his beloved Allie, who has been robbed of her memories by Alzheimer’s disease. The best-selling novel was published in 1996, and the film rights were sold not long after, but it would be nearly a decade before the production came together,...

While he has always been an extremely respected actor, in the past few years, this fame has sky-rocketed to an extent no one could have seen coming. Gosling’s last five films have collectively grossed almost $2 billion worldwide. This number is extremely impressive as only superhero movies are known for hitting numbers this high. Knowing this, let’s take a look back and see what made these films so special.

Broadway continued settling in to its post-Tonys summer last week, with box office for most shows slipping at least a bit from the previous week and the total roster trimmed to 30 from 32.
In all, receipts for the 30 productions totaled $34,783,390, down about 7% from the previous week (one of the shows no longer on the roster was the heavy-hitter An Enemy of the People). Attendance for the week ending June 30 was 264,578, down about 6% from the previous week. Even with the small decline, a strong 93% of available seats were filled.
Some notable numbers:
Merrily We Roll Along once again broke the house record at the Hudson Theatre – the ninth time for those keeping count. With its July 7 closing date fast approaching, the revival grossed $2,321,807 for the week; The Outsiders, which won the Tony for Best Musical, set a house record at the Bernard B. Image Source: Warner Bros For millions of fans, this year marked a very special anniversary: It was 20 years ago that they first fell in love with Ryan Gosling. Yes, it’s been two decades since the release of The Notebook, the romantic drama that paired Gosling with Rachel McAdams as a pair of star-crossed lovers in the 1940s and made stars of both. While he’s since gone on to great acclaim in films that have been bigger hits or are considered to be more significant, Gosling will never forget how The Notebook changed his life. When we spoke to him several years ago about the film, he told us he considered it to be a special — and somewhat unexpected — experience to work with director Nick Cassavetes on the project. Ryan Gosling had his breakthrough role in the romance The Notebook, in which he starred along with Rachel McAdams. Much like the film, Gosling and McAdams reportedly got into regular screaming matches while filming but eventually grew fond of each other and began dating.
While the two broke up after two years, an insider reported that any friendship between the two was not possible as Gosling’s wife and actress Eva Mendes disapproved of it. The insider also reportedly mentioned that Mendes felt weird about him talking about McAdams and he kept his run-ins with the Mean Girls actress short.

Besides being one of the most loved and appreciated celebrities in all of Hollywood, Ryan Gosling has also proven to be rather wittily charismatic offscreen as well. In fact, when it comes to places where he doesn’t want to overshare or let his personal thoughts out, the actor has a perfectly sarcastic way of sneaking his way out. Just like he did with Stephen Colbert recently.

Appearing on the 60-year-old comedian’s show, Gosling played the Colbert Questionert and had to answer a series of questions that would, apparently, open up his true self to the rest of the world. While he did manage to go through a majority of it unscathed, at one point, he used the most clever way to shut down Colbert, and fans have been praising him over his witty comeback ever since.

Many people have dreamed of being able to travel through time at least once — to correct the mistakes of the past and, if curious, to see the future. Today marks the twentieth anniversary of The Notebook, the romantic drama which follows two young lovers who are threatened by the difference in their respective social classes. In the years since, The Notebook has also become known for the major feud between stars Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, who apparently couldn’t stand one another.
The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes was the one who spilled the beans on the feud ten years ago, and it’s an act he now regrets. “The last time I did an interview on this thing, I spilled the beans on that,” Cassavetes told Entertainment Weekly. “I regretted it. Everyone’s like, why are you telling that? I’m like, I don’t know. It caught me on a bad day, but if [McAdams and Gosling] are around, I apologize to you guys. I shouldn’t have spilled the beans.“

A double-digit slip in the Nielsen ratings notwithstanding, the Tony Awards worked their magic at the box office, with this year’s winners, contenders and show-stealers reporting big increases in attendance and receipts.
Just a few examples: An Enemy of the People, Merrily We Roll Along and Stereophonic posted box office gains in the six figures.
In all, the 32 Broadway shows grossed $37,565,097 for the week ending June 23. That’s a 2% increase over the previous week, a more impressive bump than it seems at first glance: The previous week had 35 shows, including hefty money-makers Ben Platt: Live at the Palace, Uncle Vanya and Mother Play. The absence of those shows last week went a long way in explaining the 4% drop in attendance to 282,752.

The love for The Notebook still isn’t over. The movie, based on Nicholas Sparks’ 1996 bestseller, is celebrating its 20th anniversary on June 25, 2024. Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) and Noah Calhoun’s (Ryan Gosling) love story is just as beloved as it was two decades ago. From dreamy quotes like “if you’re a bird, I’m a bird” to that rain kiss that set the bar so high for future onscreen lip locks, The Notebook became an instant romance classic and catapulted McAdams and Gosling to stardom. TV Insider spoke with Sparks about the film’s major milestone, the “undeniable” chemistry between McAdams and Gosling, the shelved TV series, and if he’d ever want to see the movie (available to own now on digital) be remade. Rachel McAdams showcased her classic elegant approach to red carpet dressing at the recently concluded 2024 Tony Awards, where she was nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Play for her role in Mary Jane.
Though McAdams’ portrayal of the title role in Mary Jane may not have wowed the Tony committee members as much as Sarah Paulson’s in the play Appropriate, I was nonetheless impressed by the former’s more sophisticated appearance for the event.

On Sunday, the 77th annual Tony Awards were held, hosted by Broadway and film actress Ariana DeBose at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. The ceremony saw wins for Sarah Paulson, Jonathan Groff and Daniel Radcliffe. Several notable faces took the stage as presenters, including Angelina Jolie, Brooke Shields, Nick Jonas and even former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
This year’s nominations raised some skeptical responses over the omission of the fan-favorite revival of The Wiz and Appropriate‘s nomination for costume design. The ceremony was also deemed “dull” by many viewers citing numerous on-stage speech fumbles and a lack of stage presence from presenters and award winners.
Regardless, fans were excited to see their favorite faces take home their wins. Stereophonic and Alicia Keys‘ musical Hell’s Kitchen swept the categories with 13 nominations. Paulson returned to the stage after 13 years and snagged a win,...

Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe winner Sarah Paulson is now the proud new owner of a Tony, too. The actress best known for her work in the American Horror Story franchise took home the gold Sunday for Best Actress in a Play for her work in Appropriate.
“As a young actress I remember seeing Janet McTeer burst on the stage in A Doll’s House in the very theater I am currently living in,” said Paulson about doing Appropriate at the Belasco Theatre in NYC. “And some nights when I’m backstage I think about the indelible impact of her. I think about the walls of theaters all over this magical town holding the impact of each and every one of you in this room, and all of those who came before and I think how lucky those walls are to bear witness to the relentless interrogation of human experience that...

Broadway’s busy, busy 2023-24 season has been building to this night for months, with new show after new show crowding the spring and making for what promises to be — in some categories anyway — a race tighter than the rock band of Stereophonic. Ok, maybe not that tight, but what is?
In all, 36 productions were eligible for competition — five new musicals, 10 new plays, six musical revivals, and five play revivals — with 28 actually making the nominations list. The two most-nominated shows, with 13 categories each, are Best Play nominee Stereophonic and Best Musical nominee Hell’s Kitchen.
No fewer than 70 nominees were Broadway first-timers, including four Stereophonic performers, two from The Outsiders, Mary Jane‘s Rachel McAdams and, at 21 the youngest nominee, Hell’s Kitchen‘s Maleah Joi Moon. Jessica Lange, at 75, hits the other end of the age spectrum for acting nominees, with Jonathan Tunick, already an Egot, tonight’s overall...

When Tony voters looked at their ballots for best musical in 1960, they must have felt lightheaded. They were tasked with choosing a winner among the latest Rodgers and Hammerstein (The Sound of Music), a political drama that would go on to win the Pulitzer (Fiorello!), a new kind of psychological biography (Gypsy), and an uproarious fairy-tale comedy (Once Upon a Mattress). I’m not sure if any of the 2024 nominees for best musical will stand the test of time quite like that stunning lineup. But as was true 64 years ago, there are at least four celebrated contenders vying, all equally convincingly, for the top prize.
Part of what makes this season’s best musical category particularly tricky to predict is the volume of productions that aren’t on the ballot here: At various moments throughout the season, in which 15 new musicals opened (and six have already closed), it would have...

“I think ‘Stereophonic’ has taken off in a really once-in-a-lifetime way within the theatre community,” shares Sam Eckmann about the show he believes is the frontrunner for Best Play at the 2024 Tony Awards. He and I recently reconvened to discuss all 11 of the play categories ahead of the 77th annual ceremony on Sunday, June 16, and we didn’t need much time to debate the top category with David Adjmi’s “Stereophonic” so far out front to prevail. Watch our full Tony Awards predictions slugfest above.
We are feeling similarly confident about Branden Jacobs-Jenkins‘ “Appropriate” taking home the trophy for Best Play Revival. Sam points out that since this play has never been on Broadway before – it is considered a revival under the Tony Awards “classics” rule – the playwright will be on the ballot and eligible to win, which will help push the show over the finish line because “he’s a really admired writer.

The Office alum John Krasinski had long been a fan-favourite choice to play Mister Fantastic and finally got the chance to do so as a member of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' Illuminati.
Added during reshoots, Reed Richards' role in the sequel was far too brief and his death at the hands of the Scarlet Witch...well, the less said about that, the better. Even so, many fans appreciated seeing Krasinski suit up and it was a nice surprise for the stretchy superhero to make his MCU debut on Earth-838.
We've seen concept art with several different suit designs, but a viral clip from a VFX reel reveals just how close Mister Fantastic came to donning a primarily black suit instead of the blue one we saw on screen.

It’s time to put on our detective hats again and step into the world of Sherlock Holmes again. Amazon MGM Studios has given the green light for a Young Sherlock series. The show will take a deep dive into the life of a 19-year-old Sherlock and his beginnings. Guy Ritchie will direct and executive produce the eight-episode series. Ritchie and Tiffin, who most recently collaborated on the film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, will be getting back together. Just a year before that the world saw Guy Ritchie’s adaptation, set in the 1890s just like the canon, yet offered a more dynamic narration with lots of action sequences. This movie was received not as positively as the series that aired from 2010 to 2017, however, Reddit’s recent discussion concludes that Ritchie’s version holds up significantly better.
It was Redditor @saylorthrift who started this debate, and their hot takes surprisingly gained large support. Overall, it is stated that the 2009 movie has aged better than Moffat and Gatiss’ show because of its cast, setting, atmosphere, as well as screenplay.

Amazon Prime Video has ordered a series based on Andy Lane’s “Young Sherlock Holmes” novels with Hero Fiennes Tiffin set for the lead role, Variety has learned.
Guy Ritchie is attached to direct and executive produce the eight-episode series. It will be a reunion for Ritchie and Tiffin, who recently worked together on the feature “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” It is also the latest Sherlock Holmes project for Ritchie, as he previously directed two films about the famous detective starring Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes, Jude Law as Dr. Watson, and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler.
“In ‘Young Sherlock’ we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” said Ritchie. “We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.

Before starring in the classic Rachel McAdams film, Lohan was regarded as a Hollywood sweetheart. This is why it is quite interesting to find out that she was almost sued by an Oscar-nominated actress after she decided to go back on a commitment.
During the filming of Bette Midler’s autobiographical sitcom, Bette Lohan walked away from the project, causing it to come undone, and the Hollywood legend looks back in regret.

The desert may grow cold at night, but for two intrepid adventurers and would-be fortune seekers, the evening is flush with excitement. Earlier in the day these heroes—rugged Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and effervescent Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz)—seemed to make a breakthrough on their grave-robbing exploits after they literally broke through the ceiling of a tomb, discovering a juicy mummy along the way. A little later, they got in a shootout with desert nomads and bedouin, which nonchalantly left a body count well into the double digits. And yet, none of that really seemed to matter in the grand scheme of things, either to the characters or the audience watching them. Nay, the most thrilling thing about this portion of Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy is just how buzzed they, and by extension we, are getting from the shared company… plus the bottle of 15-year-old Scotch they just swiped off a corpse.
