Descendants: The Rise of Red star China Anne McClain reflected on her friend and former co-star, the late Cameron Boyce, saying the Disney actor would have been “really excited” about the film franchise’s trajectory.

“I think that he would’ve been really excited to see it and to see how [the movie] turned out because, to be honest, none of us knew how anyone was going to receive [the 2015 original],” McClain told People in a new interview.

The actress, who reprises her role as Uma (now as principal of Auradon Prep), said the making of the fourth installment — released earlier this summer on Disney+ and marking the first film to not feature Boyce — reminded her of shooting the first Descendants.

As the film Descendants: The Rise of Red begins, a royal decree is issued, stipulating that Auradon Prep, the elite boarding school for Walt Disney’s classic characters, would welcome a new class of Vk’s — villains’ kids, or the offspring of Disney’s most nefarious antiheroes. It’s not a stretch to say that Kylie Cantrall was born to be a Disney princess. The Descendants: The Rise of Red star made it clear to her artistic parents at the age of two that she was a natural performer, and that innate ability soon took shape in the form of dancing, singing, songwriting and acting. Brandy Norwood is having quite a year, which includes returning as Cinderella more than two decades after first playing the role for Disney.

Norwood starred as the storybook heroine for ABC’s 1997 television movie Cinderella, opposite Paolo Montalban as Prince Charming. The pair is back to reprise their characters in Descendants: The Rise of the Red, which is currently streaming on Disney+ and is set to debut on the Disney Channel on Aug. 9.

“We’re so honored, so blessed, so excited,” Norwood tells The Hollywood Reporter about reuniting with Montalban. “This is such a magical experience to be able to work with Paolo again, to waltz with him, to sing with him — all of it.”

Rita Ora recieved some valuable advice from Brandy, one queen to another, on their new Disney+ movie.

The You & I artist explained why the Cinderella (1997) star told her to “stop” apologizing on the set of Descendants: The Rise of Red, which is now available to stream on Disney+ ahead of its August 9 Disney Channel premiere.

She recalled filming an “iconic” coup scene in which her Queen of Hearts character takes Brandy’s Cinderella as a hostage. “‘Off with her head!’ It’s a very iconic quote for Queen of Hearts, and I was trying to find my version of that,” Ora told Entertainment Weekly.

But Ora found it difficult pretending to be mean to the Moesha alum, whom she “would try and imitate every day in my bedroom” as a kid.

“Every scene after that, I would be like, ‘I’m so sorry, I don’t mean it,'” she added.

The latest addition to the ‘Descendants’ franchise, titled the ‘Rise of Red,’ will not only take us on a trip through time, but will introduce us to a slew of new characters, alongside old favorites.

‘Descendants’ does not lack Disney characters to pick from, I can tell you that. For one thing we’ve seen Uma, Ursula’s feisty daughter, Maleficent‘s daughter, and now we’re going to be getting a glimpse into Wonderland with the addition of Rita Ora’s Queen of Hearts and Kylie Cantrall’s Red.

Rising stars Malia Baker and Kylie Cantrall visited the Empire State Building as part of their promotional tour for the upcoming Disney movie Descendants: The Rise of Red.

Baker, 17, and Cantrall, 19, posed for photographs at the iconic New York City landmark before making an appearance on Good Morning America to discuss the fourth installment in the popular Descendants franchise.

During their television interview, the young actresses shared insights into the challenges of portraying on-screen rivals despite their real-life friendship.

Jeremy Swift definitely isn’t in Richmond anymore. The actor, who famously portrayed Leslie Higgins on Ted Lasso, is stepping into the iconic role of Principal Merlin in Descendants: The Rise of Red, and TVLine has your exclusive first look at the spellcaster in action.

Available to stream beginning July 12, the Disney+ sequel turns the clock back — way back — to when Auradon Prep was still called Merlin Academy, and we’ll give you one guess who’s calling the shots. Per his official description, Swift’s Principal Merlin “does his best to use his own magic to keep powerful, dangerous magic away from his students.

Exclusive: It appears the anticipation for the next Descendants film is on the rise.

Within 10 days, the trailer for Descendants: The Rise of Red has generated 86M views across platforms, including the official Descendants social media accounts as well as those for Disney+ and talent. The trailer has also amassed 4.5M total engagements.

That outperforms the Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer, which saw great success in December, to be Disney Branded Television’s most-watched trailer of all time in that 10-day window.

According to Disney, about 52M views came from TikTok alone, and the franchise’s follower count has been rising across all social platforms.

Today, Good Morning America and Disney+ released the official trailer and poster for Descendants: The Rise of Red, the next installment in the megahit Descendants franchise.

The music-driven Disney Original movie starts streaming exclusively on Disney+ on Friday, July 12. It will then have a special encore on Friday, Aug. 9, at 8:00 p.m. Edt/Pdt on Disney Channel.

Former Villain Kid (aka Vk) Uma, now Auradon Prep’s newest principal, extends an invite to the school to another Vk — Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts from Wonderland.

After the Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, Red and Cinderella’s daughter Chloe travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path.

Descendants: The Rise of Red introduces viewers to Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, the perfectionist daughter of Cinderella. The polar opposites become unlikely allies when the Queen of Hearts stages a coup to take over Auradon, inspiring the girls to travel back in time and reverse the traumatic event that made the queen a villain in the first place.

Descendants: The Rise of Red is a film directed by Jennifer Phang and written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer. It stars Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker and China Anne McClain.

Storyline

The story centers around Red, the rebellious daughter of the infamous Queen of Hearts from Wonderland. She’s the newest Villain Kid (Vk) to attend Auradon Prep, a school for the children of good and evil. There, she crosses paths with Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming, known for her perfectionist tendencies.

An unexpected event throws Auradon into chaos, with the Queen of Hearts possibly involved in a coup. To prevent disaster, Red and Chloe, despite their differences, must join forces.

Their mission involves traveling back in time using a magical pocket watch created by the son of the Mad Hatter. They aim to stop a past event that has dire consequences for the present.

We have our first official look at Rita Ora in her upcoming role as the Queen of Hearts!

The 33-year-old singer and actress will be portraying the character, most well known from Alice in Wonderland, in the new Disney movie musical Descendants: The Rise of Red.

Rita‘s Queen of Hearts is described as the withholding, tyrannical Queen, who rules over the kingdom of Wonderland with an iron fist.

She is also the mother of the titular character Red, who will be played by Kylie Cantrall, and you can see her in the gallery, as well as Malia Baker as Chloe.

Descendants fans finally have a release date for the latest film in the franchise. Disney has released a new teaser for ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ showcasing the titular character. This film will be years after the others, so most of the cast is new.

‘Descendants’ started in 2015 with the first film, and two more films, ‘Descendants 2’ and ‘Descendants 3’ followed in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Now, five years later a new film is finally releasing.

Twenty-five years later, Brandy is Cinderella once again.

On Wednesday, Disney shared a new look at the upcoming film “Descendants: The Rise of Red”, revealing Brandy as the iconic character in the film.

The 44-year-old will star alongside Paolo Montalban as King Charming.

In a video shared by the official “Descendants” account on Twitter, the two actors introduce themselves in costume, on the set of the new entry in the franchise.

Brandy famously starred as the iconic fairy tale princess in the TV version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “Cinderella”, which aired in 1997.
