Exclusive: Australia is set to welcome some of the biggest names in Hollywood to a new industry conference, Future Vision.

Beef creator Lee Sung Jin, The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo and Big Little Lies producer Bruna Papandrea will feature at the event, which will be held in Melbourne on July 15-17. The summit is the latest globally-focused TV event on the crowded international calendar.

More speakers are set to be announced shortly, with the event streaming live around the world. Future Vision has been created with support from Australians in Film, Screen Australia and VicScreen, with Papandrea and The Slap showrunner Tony Ayres the co-chairs and Rebecca Yeldham, who led the content team at MasterClass, the Creative Director.

The Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning Lee created, wrote, executive produced and directed Netflix miniseries Beef, which starred Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, who also won acting prizes for the series.

The world re-premiere of the rock documentary “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” which took place at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills on Thursday night, began when the movie started to play with the houselights still on. Then, after about a minute, the film lurched to a halt when the screen froze completely.

Exclusive: Anvil! The Story Of Anvil, the heartbreaking and heartwarming story of a veteran heavy metal band, is getting a wide theatrical release with its remaster.

The film, which is one of the rock docs that kicked off the genre’s boom ahead of the likes of Amy and Searching for Sugar Man, will be released in 200 theaters across the U.S., timed to its 13th anniversary.

It’s a rare move for a remastered documentary. The re-release – the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008 – will feature remastered picture and sound, as well as a new exclusive epilogue interview. The re-release comes from Utopia and Abramorama, which released the doc originally, alongside director Sacha Gervasi’s Portobello Electric.

In the first trailer for actor-director Joel Edgerton’s fact-based “Boy Erased,” Lucas Hedges plays a teenager from a strict religious upbringing who is sent away for gay conversion therapy.

The memoir adaptation, billed as “coming-of-age and coming-out drama,” was written and directed by Edgerton, who also stars alongside Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman and “Manchester by the Sea” breakout Hedges. Troye Sivan, who wrote and performs the song “Revelation” in the trailer, also stars.

The source material, Garrard Conley’s “Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith, and Family,” is the emotional tale of a young man outed as gay during his freshman year of college in Arkansas.

Focus Features has acquired worldwide rights to Boy Erased, the coming-of-age and coming-out drama from writer/director Joel Edgerton based on Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith, and Family by Garrard Conley.

Academy Award nominee Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea) will star opposite Academy Award winners Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman.

The movie will be produced by Anonymous Content and will begin production this fall for a 2018 theatrical release. Focus chairman Peter Kujawski made the announcement today.

The film will tell the story of Jared (to be portrayed by Mr. Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Ms. Kidman and Mr. Crowe) at age 19. Jared is quickly pressured into attending a gay conversion therapy program – or else be shunned by his family, friends, and church. It is within the program that Jared comes into conflict with its head therapist (Mr. Edgerton).

“I’m excited to work with an ensemble of actors, seasoned and new, to bring Garrard’s story to the screen. I think Focus is the perfect partner on this, and I will always thank Garrard for trusting my passion for his life story. I can’t think of a better reason to get behind the camera again,” said Mr. Edgerton.

Boy Erased is being produced by Mr. Edgerton and Anonymous Content’s Kerry Kohansky-Roberts and Steve Golin, an Academy Award-winning producer of Best Picture Oscar winner Spotlight. Executive-producing the film are Rebecca Yeldham, Ann Ruark, and Anonymous Content’s Kim Hodgert and Tony Lipp. Josh McLaughlin, recently promoted to Focus president of production, will supervise the project for the company.

Mr. Conley’s book was first published last year by Penguin Random House, and was issued earlier this year in paperback. Mr. Edgerton has written the screenplay adaptation; Boy Erased will be his second feature as director following the sleeper hit The Gift (also produced by Ms. Yeldham), which earned him a Directors Guild of America Award nomination. He was recently a Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award nominee for his performance in Focus’ Loving.

Curtis Hanson, the Oscar-winning director of films including L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile, and In Her Shoes, has died. He was 71 years old. Amazon and Stx Entertainment have teamed up on world rights to Nash Edgerton’s all-star action comedy that Stx is introducing to international buyers in Cannes.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this week that the Los Angeles City Council, in a unanimous vote, approved plans for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Construction will begin this summer, and ceremonial groundbreaking festivities will occur this fall.

“I am thrilled that Los Angeles is gaining another architectural and cultural icon,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “My office of economic development has worked directly with the museum’s development team to ensure that the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will create jobs, support tourism, and pay homage to the industry that helped define our identity as the creative capital of the world.”

Strangely dropping a press release on a historic day where the nation's attention is elsewhere, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their annual list of new member invitees this morning. For those who criticize the makeup of the Academy there was some good news and the stark realization the organization still has a long way to go. The Academy has spent the last eight to 10 years attempting to diversify its membership and this year's class mostly reflects that. There are significantly more invitees of Asian and African-American descent, but the male to female disparity is still depressing. Out of the 25 potential new members of the Actor's Branch only seven are women. And, no, there isn't really an acceptable way for the Academy to spin that sad fact. Additionally, It's important to realize the 322 people noted in the release have only been invited to join Hollywood's most exclusive club.

Motion picture and television studio Stx Entertainment and Blumhouse Productions have officially titled their Joel Edgerton-helmed film The Gift, it was announced today by Adam Fogelson, Chairman of Stx Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group.

Set to debut on July 31, 2015, this chilling, contemporary psychological thriller marks the writing and directorial debut of acclaimed actor Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty, Warrior), and stars Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall and Edgerton. The film is produced by Rebecca Yeldham (On the Road, The Kite Runner) and Jason Blum (Whiplash, The Purge).

Sierra/Affinity will kick off pre-sales in Berlin next month on Joel Edgerton’s directorial debut thriller as part of its exclusive deal to license and service Blumhouse International (Bhi) films not distributed via Universal Pictures International.

Edgerton (pictured) wrote the screenplay and will star alongside Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall. Rebecca Yeldham and Jason Blum are producing the story, which explores whether bygones can ever truly be bygones and will open in the Us through Stx Entertainment.

Nick Meyer’s Sierra/Affinity has close ties with the Universal fold and handles international sales on select titles from the Focus Features slate.

Bhi launched in 2013 with an international distribution and servicing deal with Im Global.

That deal expired amicably at the end of 2014 after the parties collaborated on Sinister 2 and Home, among others.

Showtime Networks and the newly launched Stx Entertainment have closed a multiyear deal to bring movies distributed theatrically by the latter to the former’s pay-tv channels during the so-called premium television window.

The agreement begins this year and covers releases through 2019.

Joel Edgerton has become one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood through a series of awesome supporting and leading performances, so now the question is just what will the Australian actor do next? Well, he’s got at least five films lined up for release between now and 2014, but perhaps most exciting is his directorial debut Weirdo. We previously didn’t have much in the way of details other than the fact Edgerton is directing, but in a recent interview he revealed some information on the plot for the film, which he also wrote.

Edgerton is at Tiff currently for the premiere of Felony, which he wrote and stars in. While there, he was asked about his upcoming film and his answers gave a fair bit of interesting information about the plot.

Rebecca Yeldham will produce the project which Edgerton calls a very "contained film" with just six locations and six characters.

Edgerton says: "It’s about a guy who is forced to face the past when it comes back in the form of an old school friend. But he continually lies about it (the past) and it haunts him in a bad bad way.”

Edgerton confirms he'll play a supporting role in the film. They're currently seeking financing for the film in Toronto, though much of it is subject to casting.

The long, difficult journey from page to screen for Jack Kerouac's "On The Road" has been well-documented over the years, and one thing that has been consistent throughout is the passion and love evinced for the novel by all involved --particularly the godfather of it all, Francis Ford Coppola, who acquired the novel's rights back in 1978 at the height of his success.

Now, fifty-one years after the novel was first published, we're on the eve of the film adaptation's unveiling at the Cannes Film Festival.
