The film stars Ethan Dizon as Paulie, who made his debut in the director's very first feature 4th Man Out. Leading actress Sarita Chaudhry recently spoke out about what it was like working on the film co-produced by Priyanka. “What impresses me is that Priyanka, where she’s at with her career, could continue solo just thinking about her career. But the fact that she wanted to produce something and get other actors to be in it and to be represented. Evil Eye (Amazon Prime)
Starring Sarita Choudhury, Sunita Mani, Omar Maskati, Bernard White
Directed by Elan & Rajeev Dassani
There is very little reason why we should sit through this blindly fallacious fear fare. Yes, there is one good performance. And it’s always a pleasure to watch Sarita Cahoudhary ever since she made her memorable debut opposite, ahem, Denzel Washington in Mira Nair’s Mississippi Masala. We don’t see her often enough. But if this is the kind of cinema we get to see her in then we might as well not see her.
The evil in Evil Eye is such a dispensable imposition that we are left looking at a plot that seems to have been written with the sole purpose of making super naturalism look cool. Regrettably the eerie twist at the end is anything but convincing, let alone credible.
The story works better as a mother-daughter...

Blumhouse’s “Evil Eye” is a horror film that delves deeply into reincarnation and other Hindu philosophies, and star Sunita Mani saw similarities between the film and her personal life — one that was particularly “spooky.”
“My mom’s name is Usha, so when I read that in the script, I was like, spooky!” Mani told TheWrap, referencing Sarita Choudhury’s character, who plays Mani’s mother in the film. She explained that her connection to India became ingrained in her from a very early age, living in a south Indian household in Tennessee. She was made aware of the religion and customs through her parents and letters from her cousins who still lived in India.
“I definitely grew up with the concept of Evil Eye and reincarnation and the idea that family members or my mom would check charts and astrological signs, that’s huge in conversation and something that...

A seemingly perfect romance turns into a nightmare when a mother becomes convinced her daughter’s new boyfriend has a dark connection to her own past. Based on the audiobook by writer Madhuri Shekar, Evil Eye is directed by award-winning filmmakers Elan and Rajeev Dassani and co-produced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Jason Blum (Get Out).
In the tradition of the best horror filmmakers, the Dassanis crafted innovative ways to frighten viewers using sound and image. “What’s great about making a film like Evil Eye is that you can play around with the genre elements,” says Elan. “You can shoot scenes entirely in silhouette, or add creepy audio effects,...

Winter Cabin (2018) by Michael Huntsman
Yuching Tsai, a 23-year-old Taiwan-born and NYC-based international actor/ filmmaker, recently finished her first written-produced-starring English short film “Winter Cabin”. The film deals with a couple, Norman and Roxy, trying to survive a devastating bio-chemical war, which broke out in the Us. As they are trying to find food, they also have to deal with Norman’s psychological issues.
The film tries to deal with environmental issues and human relations, although I felt that the most interesting aspect is Norman’s mentality and the way Roxy deals with it, in a message that seems to state, “love conquers all”.
Sam Schmitz’s cinematography is quite good, as he paints the setting with bright white lights (for the most part) that suit the subject quite nicely. The same applies to the acting, with Yuching Tsai highlighting her character’s vulnerability and Bernard White as Nolan, an extreme passive aggressive behaviour.

Claws is executive-produced by Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, Janine Sherman Barrois, who also serves as showrunner, and Eliot Laurence, who created the series. After nearly 25 years, Jim Carrey is returning to television as a series regular in Showtime’s Kidding.
Jim Carrey has made cameo appearances in tv series such as The Office and 30 Rock but has not been a series regular since being a cast member on In Living Color in 1994.
Carrey will portray Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children’s television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds, who also anchors a multimillion-dollar branding empire. But when Jeff’s family begins to implode, he finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through the crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.
It’s definitely more of an experimental looking project for Carrey, which seems to be his thing as of late.
