Barbara Sukowa with Anne-Katrin Titze on Edgar Reitz and Leibniz “I really wanted to do this just to honour him. He's a great filmmaker. And it was fun.”
In the second instalment on We’re Not Done Yet (a highlight of the Sundance Film Festival), following our conversation with co-directors Sofia Camargo and Joseph Longo, with music producer and 99 Records founder Ed Bahlman, Barbara Sukowa discusses her role as the mother to her real-life son Joseph Longo (who also wrote the script and edited the short). Fernanda Torres sits in her New York City hotel room, her calm demeanor masking the whirlwind few weeks she’s had. Fresh off her Golden Globe win for best actress (drama) for her searing performance in “I’m Still Here,” Torres is gearing up for a guest appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” this Thursday. It’s a momentous time for the actress whose immense talent Hollywood is just discovering. But for the people of Brazil, Torres has been a household name — celebrated for her wit, fearless performances, and devotion to championing Brazilian stories on a global stage.
In her native country, Torres is more than just an actress — she’s a national treasure.
“America has Taylor Swift, but Brazil has Fernanda Torres,” someone joked online, a sentiment Torres laughs off with her characteristic charm.
“I’ve been around for decades,” Torres tells Variety. “In Brazil, they know me well. Here, people are finally catching up.

Made on a budget of $30 million, the action thriller Atomic Blonde earned $100 million at the box office and was meant to launch a franchise, with screenwriter Kurt Johnstad saying he envisioned the story as a trilogy. But, seven years after Focus Features (a division of Universal Pictures) released the film, a sequel has still not made it into production – and during an interview with The Direct, director David Leitch revealed what the hold-up is: Atomic Blonde 2 has gotten caught up in rights issues.
Atomic Blonde was a passion project for star Charlize Theron, who produced the film through her company Denver and Delilah Productions. Denver and Delilah started developing Atomic Blonde 2 in 2018, and in 2020 Theron revealed that the sequel was set up at the Netflix streaming service. That was the last we heard of it… until this new update from Leitch.

When I got the assignment of covering Joseph Longo and Sofia Camargo’s short film titled We’re Not Done Yet, I went through the press material that was sent to me. For short film assignments, I always do that either before or after, because I want to know the people who’re working on it and how the thing materialized. Anyway, the synopsis of We’re Not Done Yet said it would be about a mother and son getting into a tense situation on holiday, due to the overly controlling nature of the son. That made me assume the son is the sort of villain here. But when I finally watched We’re Not Done Yet, it didn’t quite feel like that.
Here’s what happens in the short. It opens at the beach. Betina and her adult son Alex are on a holiday. She asks if he’s dating someone; he shrugs.

Deadline reports that Apple TV+ has cancelled Constellation after one season. The sci-fi psychological thriller series starred Noomi Rapace as an astronaut who returns to Earth after a disaster in space, only to find that key pieces of her life seem to be missing.
The first season of Constellation wrapped up its eight-episode run in March, and unfortunately for fans, it sounds like there are quite a number of plot threads left hanging now that the series has been cancelled.
Along with Rapace, Constellation also stars Jonathan Banks, James D’Arcy, Julian Looman, William Catlett, Barbara Sukowa and Rosie and Davina Coleman. The show, which was created and written by Peter Harness, dealt with “one woman’s desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and for her to recover all that she has lost.“

“Obviously, it was a fairly big ask,” declares visual effects supervisor Doug Larmour about the outrageously complicated visual effects deployed in the big budget Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller “Constellation.” For our recent webchat he adds, “Having worked in a few space projects before and knowing that there’s a solution for zero gravity. You build sets with take-off rooms and ceilings, and you build a wind system and a flying system with some really good special effects people. You get a whole lot of wonderful people to remove all your wires for you. And then you in terms of floating objects, it’s C.G.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Review: Man, the International Space Station is getting trashed lately. For years, films like Gravity and The Cloverfield Paradox as well as countless others have used the station as the setting for disaster, but this year alone has had more than one project featuring it. First, the horror film I.S.S. made the triumphant existence of a joint space station a thing of terror and now Constellation fills viewers with a sense of foreboding surrounding the orbiting satellite. The resulting series is a psychological thriller that combines elements of horror,...

Constellation is a mind-bending sci-fi show about an astronaut who returns to Earth and experiences strange hallucinations. The show was inspired by the creator's own spooky experience in a cabin in the woods and combines themes of family and identity. The show features stunning locations and a mix of genres, creating a sense of intimacy, claustrophobia, and voyeurism.
