‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ (2005) is a romantic comedy-drama directed by Darren Grant and written by Tyler Perry. Based on Perry’s successful stage play of the same name, the film marks a historic moment in cinema as Perry’s first feature film. It also introduces audiences to the iconic, street-smart, and hilariously unforgettable character Madea, making her first appearance on the big screen. As the title suggests, ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ serves as a raw, emotional chronicle of Helen McCarter's (Kimberly Elise) life, which takes a drastic turn when her 18-year marriage comes to a sudden and heartbreaking end. Helen and her wealthy husband, Charles McCarter (Steve Harris), have never seen eye to eye and are in an unhappy marriage. Publicly, they pretend to be the poster image of the perfect relationship, but privately Charles doesn’t love her, nor does he respect her. For years,...

Exclusive: Joyce Gilliard, the hair stylist who was seriously injured in the train accident that killed camera assistant Sarah Jones on the first day of shooting Midnight Rider in 2014, has written and produced a short film about safety on the set. The 40-minute film, Daddy’s Home, will launch on YouTube and other social media platforms on February 20 – the sixth anniversary of the accident.
Watch the trailer above.
“Daddy’s Home follows the life of a film industry crew member who loves his job but tries to juggle working consistently long hours and being home with his family, and the toll it can take if safety precautions are not taken,” Gilliard said. “It allows the viewer to understand the sacrifices many cast and crew members take to bring their favorite movies to the big screen.”

“Angie Tribeca,” 10:30 p.m., TBS
Episode Title: “This Sounds Unbelievable, But ‘CSI: Miami’ Did It”
Network Synopsis: Natalie Portman’s in this one, but also a man falls from the sky and the team investigates a lead in space.
Why You Should Watch: The Oscar winner alone is worth the tuning in, just to see her embody a modern-day Nasa scientist who looks, sounds and acts like a ‘60s housewife. According to IndieWire critic Ben Travers’ review: “Portman grasps the tone quickly and then runs away with the scene, her soft inflections and glowing expressions creating a beam of light gliding through the scene.” The episode reaches new heights of lunacy, and not just because some of the action takes place in space. Also, a bonus visit to the Acme Corporation, a favorite of the tenacious Wile E. Coyote, pays off richly in visual gags.

Animated fare was very slow to integrate, largely because there was a paucity of useful source material to mine from. In the 1990s, that began to change, largely thanks to Milestone Media, a multicultural operation that had a line of comics distributed through DC Comics.
Milestone’s best known character is Static, a young urban teen with a definite modern-day Peter Parker vibe to him. Virgil Hawkins just wanted live his life when he was accidentally exposed to mutagen gas, giving him electromagnetic powers. Donning a self-made outfit, he protected his corner of the ‘Hood as Static.
The show arrived in 2000 with a bang and became a cause because it not only featured a positive image of a black male, but closely resembled the source material thanks to Milestone co-creators Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan being heavily involved in the show. Static has been back every now and then and...
