Like many people, you might think you’ve seen everything when it comes to zombie movies. But there’s always somebody with a new idea, a fresh and original take on the horror genre. Films like One Cut of the Dead, Anna and the Apocalypse, and Train to Busan, have all added something new to the zombie movie, and this Norwegian production tries to do the same.

And Project Z is somewhat original. It takes things from various other movies to create something that is quite unique. To start with, this is a found footage movie, and there’s actually not a whole lot of found footage zombie movies. It doesn’t exactly play out like other films in that horror subgenre though, because it’s a movie about people making a movie.

If there is one place you would have thought a sleep-deprived person might be able to stop herself dropping off, it’s in a lecture about sleep. But that’s what this atmospheric but somewhat heavy-handed debut feature from Norway has its protagonist Mona (Eili Harboe) do as she is introduced by dishevelled academic Aksel (Dennis Storhøi) to the possibility that she has become the victim of the mythical incubus Mare. This may explain a recent run of freakish dreams in which she’s tormented by a vampiric doppelganger of her caring boyfriend Robby (Herman Tømmeraas).

Nightmare also belongs to the school of property horror already occupied by The Tenant and Mother! Left alone by Robby, a high-flyer preoccupied with some kind of algorithmic investment venture, Mona is charged with renovating...

After working as a screenwriter on horror and thriller projects like Varg Veum – Din til døden, Villmark 2, and The Tunnel, Kjersti Helen Rasmussen has now made her feature directorial debut with the Norwegian horror film Nightmare, which has landed international distribution through the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services. Nightmare will be available to watch on both of those services as of this Friday, September 29th – and with the release date so close, we thought we should share the trailer for the film. A pregnant young woman becomes convinced that a demon is intent on possessing her unborn child in this horror debut from Norwegian writer-director Kjersti Helen Rasmussen. Despite a few plot wobbles, it’s a well crafted chiller, anchored by a solid lead performance from Eili Harboe (Thelma).

Set in present-day Norway, NightMare centres on Mona (Harboe) and Robbie (Herman Tømmeraas), a young couple who’ve just moved into a spacious, but suspiciously cheap apartment. Mona is hesistant on the subject of children, but she soon falls pregnant, which delights Robbie. However, their happiness is short-lived, because Mona starts experiencing night terrors, which grow more intense with every night that passes.

More4 has acquired the rights to air Norwegian series Heavy Water War.

The drama - known in Norway as Kampen om tungtvannet - tells the true story of how Norwegian saboteurs destroyed Nazi Germany's hopes of developing an atom bomb during the Second World War.

The series covers key events in the 1930s and 1940s, which saw the Nazis come close to developing a nuclear weapon to use on their enemies.

Espen Kloumann Høiner, Dennis Storhøi and Christoph Bach lead the cast, with Anna Friel starring in a supporting role.

The opening episodes of Heavy Water War were seen by more than 1.2 million Norwegians when they premiered on Nrk in January.

Some of the footage in the video shows the creature design. But to me the most spectacular feature is that you can see how the Norwegian base camp is recreated almost identically to the one you saw briefly in the 1982 version. Even the block of ice that the creature escapes from is identical. Another great piece about this footage is that you can see the locale in which they filmed. This wasn't filmed in some studio, this was done in the snow covered mountains in Canada. The look of the 1982 film, with that feeling that the location was devoid of life outside of the camp really added to the creepiness of the overall film, and this one seems to be right on target. It might simply be a prequel but aside from the fact its still going to carry the exact same title that its 1982 predecessor had it has got one heck of a tough act to follow - or well, prequelise. John Carpenter's fantastic horror sci-fi remake (based on the 1951 sci-fi flick 'The Thing from Another World') is still one of the classic horrors of the past 30 years and so director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. has his work cut out. 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World' hottie Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars along with Joel Edgerton, Jonathan Walker ('Land of the Dead'), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje ('Lost'), Dennis Storhoi, Trond Espen Seim, Jorgen Langhelle, Eric Christian Olsen, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jan Gunnar Roise, Kristofer Hivju and Jo Adrian Haavind. We reported recently that The Thing prequel had been experiencing some setbacks due to re-shoots and a release date had been scrapped. Well, now there is finally a new release date set according to sources. The release date is now scheduled for Friday, October 14, 2011.

Universal Pictures have finally rectified a somewhat concerning situation regarding the upcoming Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. prequel 'The Thing'. Universal pulled their Thing Prequel from its 29th April slot to allow Fast and Furious pole position (sorry for the racing car pun). The reason given was for ‘additional photography’ because apparently something ‘character development’ needed clearing up.

Now it’s been announced The Thing will be released on 14th October, 2011 – just in time for Halloween! Although Paranormal Activity 3 has stamped its authority on that period, too. There was at one point a fear the movie wouldn’t see the light of day at all in 2011 but now fears can be allied. We will get to see it next year!

It was pretty surprising to discover Universal took The Thing prequel completely off their 2011 slate. No reason was given, and many assumed it was a canny business decision to allow Fast and Furious a shot at the 29th April release date.

But no. Turns out The Thing was removed for reshoots or as the studio told Hitflix, “additional photography”. They also report the director (Matthijs van Heijningen Jr) has a rough cut of the film and that the reshoots will flesh out existing action scenes and clarify some plot points. Sounds like a load of old movie PR bullshit to me and what’s really happened is they’ve shot a movie the suits aren’t happy with.

I’m still rather concerned as to whether this prequel is actually a prequel at all and really just a revamp of Carpenter’s remake of Howard Hawks’ carrot man horror flick.

When news broke that Universal pulled its scheduled April 29, 2011 release for the prequel to the John Carpenter classic, The Thing, everyone assumed the worst. That is the easiest thing to do, after all.

Thanks to a recent interview over on HitFix with producer Marc Abraham, some light has been shed on the subject. The site reports of plans for upcoming additional photography on the film, adding that the filmmakers have a cut of the movie and that they are now hoping to use this next round of photography to enhance existing sequences or to make crystal clear a few story beats or to add punctuation marks to the film's feeling of dread.
