Rourkela, June 17 (Ians) Hockey Jharkhand, Le Puducherry Hockey and Hockey Punjab registered victories in their respective matches on Day 6 of the 13th Hockey India Junior Men’s National Championship 2023 at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, here on Saturday.

In the first match of the day, Hockey Jharkhand defeated the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 8-1 in Pool F. Navin Kerketta scored a brace and gave a solid start to Hockey Jharkhand. Abhishek Tigga (18′), Atish Dodrai (23′), Deepak Soreng (24′), Sukhnath Guria (49′), Shet Topno (53′) and Flabius Tirkey (55′) scored one goal each to affirm the necessary lead against their opponents. In reply, Anand Y (15′) scored the only goal for the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu.

Rourkela (Odisha), June 16 (Ians) Hockey Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Hockey registered wins in their respective pool matches on Day 5 of the 13th Hockey India Junior Men’s National Championship 2023 at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, here on Friday.

In the first match of the day, Hockey Madhya Pradesh beat Kerala Hockey 14-0 in Pool A. Mohammad Zaid Khan, Ali Ahmad, Mohd Konain Dad, Captain Ankit Pal (15′), Md Kareem Mansuri (29′), Shreyas Dupe, and Kashif Khan (57′) featured on the scoresheet for Hockey Madhya Pradesh.

In Pool B, Chhattisgarh Hockey beat Hockey Andhra Pradesh 13-3 in the second match of the day. The goalscorers for Chhattisgarh Hockey were Karan Lakra, Arjun Yadav (7′), Vishnu Yadav, Captain Tarun Yadav (38′), Sandeep Kumar, and Sonu Nishad (47′). New Delhi, March 22 (Ians) The action in the 1st Hockey India Junior Men Zonal Championships 2023 continued on Wednesday in the North, South, East, and West Zones with Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Rajasthan registering victories in their respective zones.

In the first match of the day, Hockey Punjab beat Delhi Hockey by a 7-0 scoreline. Jaspal Singh, Dilraj Singh (7′), Ujwal Singh (17′), Gobind Patel (33′), Prabhjot Singh (38′), and Sukhwinder Singh (44′) all scored to end the match in Hockey Punjab’s favour.

The makers of ‘Kuttey’ on Thursday unveiled the new song ‘Phir Dhan Te Nan’ from Aasmaan Bhardwaj’s upcoming directorial. Composer of the track Vishal Bhardwaj, shares his thoughts of what went behind composing it.

He said: “‘Phir Dhan Te Nan’ is an emotion which wells up inside you. It’s catchy, yet stirs up the memories of the original song, Dhan Te Nan, which was a chartbuster that never lost its charm. It is played even today. Perhaps that’s why, initially it was challenging for us to compose ‘Phir Dhan Te Nan’ think about making changes to the original tune.”

“We needed to integrate both, keeping the originality of the former with the freshness of the latter intact. Another challenge was that Dhan Te Nan is so perfect. That’s why we had to have multiple sittings, discussions and jamming sessions before finalising the new version.”

Well-known Rajasthani folk singer Mame Khan has talked about walking on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 in traditional attire because he wanted to represent the true culture and tradition of India.

He said: “People there wear various forms of clothes and all, so I was like what should I wear? I thought I’m from India and representing the folk culture of India so I wore a Rajasthani safa (turban) and a coat from Kanpur.”

He later shared how he had to wait for his luggage and he thought that if it is not coming on time he will not go on the red carpet.

Ahmedabad, Sep 4 (Ians) Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday declared that the city of Ahmedabad would soon be developed into the biggest sports city in the world.

Speaking at the unveiling function of the anthem and mascot for the 36th National Games at the Eka Arena, TransStadia here in Ahmedabad, Shah, said: “Ten years ago, when Modiji was the chief minister here, he started the Khel Mahakumbh. At that time Gujarat was nowhere in sports on the global map.

“Now, we have the Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest stadium in the world, and very soon we will have the world’s biggest sports city too,” Shah said, addressing over 10,000 people at the majestic venue.

Indian Ocean bass guitarist and Aisi Taisi Democracy co-founder Rahul Ram has released a cover version of A R Rahman’s Oscar-winning ‘Jai Ho’ track for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ on Monday to mark the 75th Independence Day.

He has collaborated with musicians such as IP Singh, Shibani Kashyap, Subir Malik and others under the banner of the music collective Delhi Indie Project. The video shows the artistes, all dressed in white, as they lip sync to the lyrics of the song — minus the bits in Spanish — originally written by Gulzar.

A message accompanying the video said: “Dedicating the 75th Independence Day to the Armed Forces of India! Jai Hind! Heartfelt thanks and gratitude to our family and friends for constantly being there at every step in.”

Veteran lyricist Gulzar has once again collaborated with filmmaker-composer Vishal Bhardwaj. The duo has created the tracks "Marenge to wahin jaakar" and "O re bidesiya" that will feature in the upcoming documentary film "1232 Kms". The film is about mass migration of workers and underprivileged people when lockdown was announced last year.

While Sukhwinder Singh has sung "Marenge to wahin jaakar", the track "O re bidesiya" has been recorded in the voice of Vishal's wife, Rekha Bharadwaj.

Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo

The definitive Republic Day song, it was sung live by Lata Mangeshkar on January 26, 1963, as a tribute to Indian soldiers who died during the Sino-Indian War of 1962. The song is written by Kavi Pradeep and composed by C. Ramchandra. The first rendition of Mangeshkar, a live rendition at National Stadium in New Delhi, happened with President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in the audience.

Nanha Munna Rahi Hoon

Sung by Shanti Mathur for the 1962 film "Son Of India", this song has long been associated with Republic Day and Independence Day, especially at schools where students perform to its beat.

Exclusive: WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners have inked Indian actor Adarsh Gourav, who stars in the upcoming Netflix movie The White Tiger opposite Priyanka Chopra Jones.

In the movie directed by Ramin Bahrani, Gourav plays Balram, a poor driver who yearns to break free from servitude to his rich masters and rise to the top of the heap (watch the trailer below).

Gourav was born in the steel city of Jamshedpur and spent his formative years in Mumbai. He graduated from Narsee Monjee with a Bachelor’s degree and is also an alumnus of The Drama School in Mumbai. He was classically trained in Hindustani Music for more than nine years; and has been a frontman for two progressive metal bands in school and college namely Steepsky and Oak Island. Oak Island has released an EP titled Aliens Cant Jump that has been featured on the show MTV Indies- Never Hide Sounds.

After they sang their chosen songs, it was time for “Masked Singer” panelists Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke, along with guest judge Will Arnett and the studio audience, to choose the “weakest” contestant for elimination.

They picked T-Rex, who sang “Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)” by A.R. Rahman, Vijay Prakash, Sukhwinder Singh, Tanvi Shah and Mahalakshmi Iyer. She was unmasked and revealed to be 16-year-old YouTube star and “Dance Moms” alum Jojo Siwa.

Dancing diva Malaika Arora shot to fame with the song "Chaiyya chaiyya" back in 1998. She feels that though there is a trend of remixes these days, the Ar Rahman composition is one of those numbers that simply shouldn't be touched.
