Beetlejuiced
The opening day of the Venice Film Festival was dominated by Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Lots of red carpet glamor with a slew of movie stars from Monica Bellucci to Catherine O’Hara. Michael Keaton had fun all day pointing his iPhone at fans and filming them. Beetlejuice-themed cosplayers scattered around the red carpet area and up to the press room. Winona Ryder wore a dress aligned with the film. But the very young crowd went crazy for Jenna Ortega, aka Wednesday Addams, who arrived in stunning red. Lido-mania has arrived.
Angry Journalists
The Venice press is infuriated by the shortage of junkets: they moan that there are few if any authorized interviews. Mariam Schaghaghi, a German journalist for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, asks Alberto Barbera about this directly during the press conference. Barbera, however, said he is not aware of the situation, explaining that decisions regarding the...

Katherine Waterston is sprawled on the floor of her dressing room. "I hurt my back a few days ago," she explains, slightly embarrassed. "It's not as bad as it looks, trust me." Waterston is backstage at the Good Morning America studios in Manhattan, having just appeared with a handful of her Alien: Covenant costars to stump for the movie on the morning-show circuit; right now, however, she's half-prone, half-sitting on the ground, and well aware that she resembles a vulnerable tangle of limbs stuck in the middle of an advanced yoga position.

Few movies can boast a real-world impact, but "Gorillas in the Mist," the biopic of slain primatologist Dian Fossey, is one of them. Released 25 years ago (on September 23, 1988), the film alerted the world to the plight of the endangered Rwandan gorillas that she'd spent 20 years studying, prompting charitable efforts that have helped preserve the primates and conserve their habitat.
But as familiar as Fossey's story is (thanks to the movie), there's still much that remains shrouded in mystery, from the identity of Fossey's killer to how Sigourney Weaver was able to ingratiate herself with Fossey's own gorillas during the filming. Here's the details behind the film, including the hardships involved in making it, which gorillas were fake, and what became of the poacher-threatened primates after the movie crew left.
1. Producer Arne Glimcher and Universal had acquired the movie rights to "Gorillas in the Mist," Fossey's 1983 best-selling memoir. Glimcher traveled to...

The answer is: Three. That’s three sequels to “Avatar”. All shot back-to-back-to-back, apparently. Or at least, that’s according to “Avatar” star Sigourney Weaver, who let the info slip out. Also according to Weaver, the first of the sequels will begin production as soon as this Fall. In an article by Showbiz 411 about Weaver’s upcoming political show on cable TV called “Political Animals”, the conversation immediately switched to “Avatar”, which is where Weaver dropped the bomb. Then she films “Avatar” 2, 3, and 4 with James Cameron. That’s right: they’re making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take, or how it’s going to work. “I just show up,” she said. If “Political Animals” is renewed, USA will have to wait until all that’s over. And it’s not like Weaver is...

Weaver Reprises Role In 9/11 Play
Sigourney Weaver is set to reprise her role in the 9/11-themed play The Guys as part of a 10th anniversary tribute to those who lost their lives in the horrific terrorist attacks.
The Alien star will return to the stage to play a journalist who helps a fire captain memorialise the men he lost at Ground Zero.
Weaver first took on the role in the months following the 2001 atrocities and the actress is eager to revisit the production, so she can again honour the fallen.
She tells the New York Post, "(At first everyone enjoyed) being together in a room for an hour and a half and being allowed to think about what had happened... Once the lights go down, you are open in a way you are not open when you are watching the news or reading the paper. You can think about things and have emotions and disagree and experience what's going on in the world in a more personal way."
The Guys will be staged at the Museum of Jewish Heritage for a two-night run, beginning on Wednesday.
Weaver's husband, Jim Simpson, will direct.

Weaver Praises 'Strong' Husband
Sigourney Weaver has credited her husband Jim Simpson with keeping their 24-year marriage stable - because he handles her fame with "grace."
The Alien star married the theatre director in 1984 after just two months of dating, and they have a 19-year-old daughter, Charlotte, together.
Weaver admits it was love at first sight for her, but it's taken a huge amount of effort on Simpson's part to keep their relationship on track.
She says, "We met at a theatre festival party in 1983. I asked him to dance and he said, 'No.' I was crushed. Later he agreed to a date and two months after that we got married. He is a strong man to be married to someone famous, you have to be.
"He handles the fuss with grace. I get far more attention than him, but it's clear for both of us that his work is as important as mine."...

ESPN Classic relives spirit of '79
NEW YORK -- ESPN Classic is going to put an old spin on a new game.
