During its fraught production, Alien 3 went through dozens of drafts. We look at some of the story ideas that never made it to the screen...
When the credits rolled on 1986's Aliens, the inevitable question from many cinemagoers was, "What happens next?"
For 20th Century Fox, and writer-producers David Giler and Walter Hill, it took nearly six years to figure out an answer to that question. Certainly, when Aliens was in production, director James Cameron had some ideas about a sequel; he once spoke about the prospect of Ripley, Hicks and young Newt - a makeshift family thrown together by that film's events - meeting up again for a second sequel to Alien.
“I know that James Cameron had planned to have Hicks, Ripley and me in Alien 3, to have a family-type thing", Newt actress Carrie Henn said in 1995.
A year after Aliens came out, Cameron was unequivocal...

Universal Pictures has hired The Hunger Games screenwriter Billy Ray to write the script for The Mummy reboot currently being developed at the studio. The movie is being produced by Joe Roth and Star Trek's Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. It's being directed Underworld's Len Wiseman.
What's interesting about this is that Universal previously hired Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts to write a script for this Mummy film, and Ray was hired to write a competitive script that will most likely end up being combined into one.
According to Vulture by "hiring two screenwriters to work on competing Mummy projects at the same time, the studio believes it is effectively doubling its chances that it will at least have one Mummy script that’s camera-ready by the late summer or early fall." A studio insider explains,
Studios don’t shoot movies anymore. They shoot release dates. My suspicion is...

The summer of 2012 left a smoking crater in Universal Pictures’ balance sheet thanks to Battleship, so it was no shock that the studio would look to reboot The Mummy, a proven franchise whose four films have grossed a combined $1.4 billion in worldwide box office. But what is surprising is how the studio is going about rebooting the project, which is being produced by Joe Roth and directed by the Underworld franchise's Len Wiseman. Vulture has learned that Universal’s brass are so keen to make sure The Mummy doesn’t unravel before its hoped-for summer 2014 release that they’ve taken the unusual step of hiring two different screenwriters to work on dueling Mummy scripts. It was already known that Jon Spaihts, who co-wrote Prometheus for director Ridley Scott, is hammering away on an update of The Mummy set in the present day. But what wasn’t known is that The Hunger...

Universal Studios helped pioneer the direct-to-dvd concept for film franchises with American Pie. The series of videos -- American Pie: Band Camp, American Pie: Naked Mile and American Pie: Beta House -- has brought them much cash and provided Playboy with many an actress to peel for their pages. Now, Moviehole says the studio is eyeing an actual feature film to pick up the story of the original characters. After all the first film, released in 1999, brought in an eye-popping $235 million. No cast or crew has been signed or announced so speculation can run rampant as to which characters will be brought back as the focal point. Stifler? Stifler’s Mom? Jim and Michelle? We vote for Nadia, since after all, Shannon Elizabeth could always use the work.
Ian Jeffers has written an original werewolf tale and according to Bloody Disgusting, he has sold it to director Ridley Scott.
