Daughter of British journalist Morgan Philips Price and Lisa Balster, secretary of Rosa Luxemburg, she became a screenwriter with her husband William Rose. She later edited the letters of her father who had been a foreign correspondent. He was also for thirty years a Labor member of Parliament .

She married William Rose in 1943, whilst he was doing war service in England. The marriage broke up in the late 1960s after his return to America.
