Some of the best TV shows ever faced multiple rejections before becoming hugely successful. It may be hard to believe, but many were even turned down a shocking number of times. Whether due to budget, a complex story, or a genre that felt too niche, they were considered too risky or too different from what audiences were used to.
However, they eventually found their place among the stars, showing that sometimes the most unexpected ideas can lead to incredible triumphs. In addition to great storytelling, stunning visuals, and all the other elements that make for a great series, the ace up the sleeve these titles had was doing things no one had done before. From HBO's The Sopranos to Netflix's Squid Game, these cases prove that it doesn’t matter how slowly one goes, as long as they don’t stop.

"That '70s Show" hasn't stayed quite as culturally ubiquitous as its fellow 90s sitcoms "Seinfeld" or "Friends," but that speaks more to how titanic its competitors were and remain. True to its name, "That '70s Show" was set from 1976-1980 (four years stretched out into twice as many seasons), following a group of six high school-aged friends growing up in Point Place, Wisconsin. The town is fictional, but the show's creators modeled "That '70s Show" and its characters on their real teenage experiences.
Running from 1998 to 2006, "That '70s Show" racked up an even 200-episode run. It's also the reason you know who Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Topher Grace are — with its popularity, a revival was inevitable, especially because by the 2020s, enough time had passed to update the central gimmick.

Netflix has axed several shows in 2024 and a few are really angering fans!
It can be hard to be a Netflix subscriber. The streamer is home to some fantastic shows, many of which no other network or creator would take a chance on. Sadly, far too often, a great show only lasts one season, with Netflix canceling them for sometimes little rhyme or reason.
2024 was no different, with several shows ending. To be fair, a few weren’t that good, so they likely deserved the axing. Others just were rather forgettable so no big loss. But then there are a few shows that had great critical acclaim and amassed a loyal following, only to be canceled with little warning.
It’s aggravating and worse when some seem to have been given little chance to grow. Here are the shows Netflix has canceled in 2024 that really stick in the craw of...

Topher Grace has played many well-known characters over the years. From being a part of Spider-Man 3 as Eddie Brock to starring in Denis Quaid’s In Good Company, he has certainly explored all that Hollywood has to offer. However, one of his most iconic roles to date has to be That ’70s Show.

Several actors who featured in the series became Hollywood legends in the years to come. Among them was also Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who went on to become an icon.

That ’70s Show remains one of the most beloved sitcoms, bringing the nostalgia of the 1970s to audiences through the eyes of a group of teenage friends in fictional Point Place, Wisconsin. That ‘70s Show boasted of a stellar cast, in addition to Topher Grace as well.
It proved to be the first big sitcom role for one Ashton Kutcher, who starred alongside his former wife Mila Kunis. While Kutcher played the role of Michael Kelso, Kunis portrayed Jackie Burkhart.
Running from 1998 to 2006, the show’s charm came from the authentic dynamics of its characters, which also includes the protagonist Eric Forman, played by Topher Grace.
However, Grace’s exit after Season 7 left fans with questions about why he left and how his departure impacted the show. This article explores the reasons behind Grace’s decision, the repercussions for the series, and his eventual return in the spin-off, “That ’90s Show.

If you're a fan of the long-running series "How I Met Your Mother," you know that pop star Britney Spears memorably pops up in the third season of the beloved CBS sitcom ... so how did that happen, and how did Spears' guest role basically save the show?
During a Reddit Ama (ask me anything) in 2013, Carter Bays, who created "How I Met Your Mother" alongside Craig Thomas, was asked if any of the show's guest stars had ever specifically asked to join the series. Apparently, Spears did just that. "We got a call a few weeks after the writers' strike [in 2007] ended saying that Britney Spears wanted to be on our show," Bays responded. "And she specifically wanted to be in the episode 'Ten Sessions,' which sent a chill down our spines, because that's the one where we meet Stella [Zinman, a love interest for Josh Radnor's Ted Mosby]."

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis initially met on the set of the iconic That ’70s Show, which fans still love watching because of the incredible chemistry they shared along with each other and the rest of the cast which also featured Laura Prepon, Topher Grace, and the controversial Danny Masterson.

Despite being acquainted for many years, the two only started to grow romantically closer a decade after their first interaction on the set of the sitcom. The pair tied the knot in 2015 and have since welcomed two children.
However, people generally experience a ton of change in their personal lives over time. Given the chance to travel back into the past, Mila Kunis claims she would like to see how she felt about things happening back then.
What’s one thing Mila Kunis would do if she could turn back time?...

That '90s Show, once a hit Netflix sitcom, has been canceled by the streaming service after the conclusion of its second season, and there's a fairly simple reason why. That '90s Show is a sequel to the beloved sitcom That '70s Show. It stars Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the daughter of Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon), and features some cameos from the rest of the cast of That '70s Show. Despite its cast and its connection to a classic comedy show, however, That '90s Show season 3 was canceled by Netflix.
That '90s Show season 2 was split into two parts, and the second part was released on August 22. That '90s Show season 2 part 2 was originally intended to be released on October 24, but the date was moved up. While that does mean that the show's second season finished before the cancelation, the news puts the fate of That '90s Show season 3 into jeopardy.

After Kurtwood Smith announced that Netflix had canceled That ’90s Show after two seasons, his co-stars took to the comments to share their reactions.
Mace Coronel, who played Jay Kelso, said, “Such an honor to meet and work with you.”
Smith replied, “Mace, you’re a wonderful young man with a ton of talent to go along with it… it was [a] pleasure every day to see and work with you! Thanks for all those good days!”
Coronel’s character was the son of Ashton Kutcher’s Michael Kelso and Mila Kunis’ Jackie Burkhart.
Callie Haverda, who played Leia Forman, the daughter of Topher Grace’s Eric Forman and Laura Prepon’s Donna Pinciotti, also had some kind words for Smith, who played her grandfather Red Forman.

"Ashton was far more intelligent in real life than the character he played, and he was far more serious about the craft of acting than it appeared," the NCIS actor, 44, admitted of Kutcher, 46, who played the character Michael Kelso, a jock, on the fan-favorite series.

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for That '90s Show part 3!While That 90s Show parts 2 and 3 were able to cleverly avoid bringing back Topher Graces Eric Forman, the characters absence is becoming more difficult to justify. That 90s Shows cast of characters is centered around Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the teenage daughter of That 70s Shows Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon), as she spends her summer vacations in Point Place with her grandparents, Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) and Red Forman (Kurtwood Smith). With Red and Kitty taking over as Leias guardians in the sitcom, Donna and Eric have taken the backseat in the sequel series.
However, while Eric and Donna live in Chicago rather than Point Place, Laura Prepon frequently appears as Leias mother when she comes to visit in That 90s Show. Given how often Donna returns during each batch of episodes, it makes Erics absence far more noticeable.

The throwback opening credits sequence seen at the end of That '90s Show season 3, episode 6 is even more nostalgic thanks to one key detail. After the celebrated teen comedy series That '70s Show concluded back in 2006 after 200 episodes, Netflix created the popular spinoff series That '90s Show in 2023. Since then, there have been three parts and 26 total episodes of That '90s Show, the most recent of which were released on August 22, 2024.

Like many shows that centered on a cast of teenage characters, the stars of That '70s Show were a variety of ages in real life when the iconic sitcom premiered. Over the years, the ensemble cast of the show saw a few major changes, but for the most part it was led by a consistent young cast that included Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, Laura Prepon, and Wilmer Valderrama. The only major non-adult series regular to be added to the young ensemble was Josh Meyers' Randy Pearson, who joined the cast for the eighth and final season.
The long-running show originally ran for eight seasons and a total of 200 episodes, spanning from its premiere on August 23, 1998 through its finale on May 18, 2006. That '90s Show brings back familiar faces from That '70s Show, maintaining a sense of nostalgia and continuity. In the pilot episode of That ’90s Show, Kurtwood Smith’s Red smugly tells Laura Prepon’s Donna and Topher Grace’s Eric: “You’re upstairs people now.”
The line, a reference to the onscreen couple’s days spent as teens in the Formans’ basement on the original series, That ’70s Show, seems to resonate with Prepon still, even with the sequel series now on part three. The actress and director, who got her start on That ’70s Show, has returned for the latest season of the Netflix spinoff (now streaming) in her role as Donna, and as a director for the eight-episode batch.

What happens when Jay and Silent Bob crash a car into your grandparents’ kitchen while you’re spending your summer vacation at their house? Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) is about to find out when That ’90s Show returns for Part 3, with 10 new episodes directed by her TV mom, That ’70s Show star (and That ’90s Show guest star) Laura Prepon.
Well, sort of. To start, while Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are dressed as their famous characters from Clerks, they’re not playing them on the 1996-set series. That would probably cause a tear in the time-space continuum, because Callie rents Clerks in Season 1. Instead, Smith plays Sonny, the son of Tommy Chong’s Leo, and Mewes plays his friend Bunch.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “That ’90s Show” Part 3.
“That ’90s Show” closed out its third season with a shakeup in dynamics, with the future of Laura Prepon’s character intentionally left “open-ended,” according to Prepon.
As summer in Point Place started to wind down, Donna (Prepon) revealed to Leia (Callie Haverda) in Part 3’s penultimate episode that her father, Eric scored his dream job in California. Donna told Leia she could spend the school year in Point Place as well, while Donna commutes between her job in Chicago, Point Place and the West Coast — a suggestion which Leia immediately jumped at.
With Leia’s friendships and relationships cemented in Point Place, Donna eventually agreed to the plan, which Prepon, who also directed all the episodes in Part 3, said was fueled by knowing how badly Leia wants this dream to be a reality.

Orange Is the New Black, the groundbreaking Netflix series that premiered in 2013, quickly became a cultural phenomenon, and there's still a possibility that Orange Is the New Black season 8 will happen. The show, based on Piper Kerman's memoir, Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison, delves into the lives of women in prison, exploring their backgrounds, the circumstances that led to their incarceration, and their experiences inside. Its blend of drama and comedy, along with its commitment to highlighting issues of race, gender, and the criminal justice system, has earned it a devoted fanbase.

That '90s Show focuses on Leia Forman and new teenage characters in Point Place, Wisconsin, with occasional cameos from That '70s Show stars. Despite numerous appearances by original cast members, there has been no full reunion, possibly to avoid overshadowing the new cast. A potential That '70s Show reunion could happen later if the spinoff remains successful and actors are willing to return.
After watching That '90s Show season 2, I have to accept that the one thing I was really hoping for in the spinoff is never going to happen. The Netflix series has done a phenomenal job introducing a new crew of teenage characters, and overall, I have enjoyed That '90s Show immensely. There doesn't have to be constant references to That '70s Show for That '90s Show to be nostalgic since its very formula comes with that bittersweet feeling built right in. Still, it might have been nice...

Leia's maternal grandmother, Midge, remains unmentioned in That '90s Show season 2. Tanya Roberts, who played Midge, passed away in 2021, but the show has not addressed her character's absence. Midge's absence could be due to her passing or her lack of commitment to her family; it's strange to ignore her as she's related to two main cast members.
With Leia back at her grandparents' place in That '90s Show season 2, I'm surprised that one family member still hasn't been mentioned. That '90s Show season 2, part two has reunited Leia with her grandparents and has even shown hints of what her life is like back home in Chicago with her parents, Donna and Eric Foreman, cast members of That '70s Show. Despite this, there is still one member of Leia Foreman's family that hasn't really been mentioned yet, and I'm surprised it's taking this long.

That '90s Show season 2 references 1996's Romeo + Juliet in one of Leia's daydreams but the timing is off. The show is packed with '90s nostalgia, so the homage to Romeo + Juliet's iconic fish tank scene adds a lot to the episode, even if it's erroneous. Romeo + Juliet is the perfect kind of cult classic for a 1990s-set show to reference.
That '90s Show season 2 references an iconic Leonardo DiCaprio movie but, unfortunately, the homage doesn't make a ton of sense. A sequel to the hugely popular That '70s Show, the Netflix series centers on Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the teenage daughter of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon). Unfolding 15 years after what happened in That '70s Show's finale, the 1990s-set sitcom sees Leia spending the summer with her grandparents, Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty Forman (Debra Jo Rupp), in the...

In the spinoff series, That '90s Show, several characters from the original series, That '70s Show, have made appearances or were mentioned. Here are some of the characters and their situations: Jackie Burkhart - Played by Mila Kunis: Jackie didn't appear in That '90s Show season Kunis noted that it was time for her and the other members of That '70s Show's cast to leave the story to the new teens. Therefore, it's likely that Jackie won't appear in future seasons of That '90s Show either.
That '90s Show season 2 brought back a few That '70s Show characters, but the vast majority were left out this time around. While season 1 spent a good deal of time revealing what had come of the original crew since the end of the 1970s, it was important that That '90s Show season 2 give the new teenagers a chance to shine. Netflix followed through on this,...

That '90s Show is filled with references to the decade it's set in, and some of these references are more obvious than others. Here are some of the most notable '90s references in the show: The opening sequence: The opening credits of That '90s Show feature a montage of iconic '90s items and pop culture references, including a Discman, a Tamagotchi, and a Blockbuster Video store. "Stay" music video recreation: In episode 2, "Something to Talk About," the music video for Lisa Loeb's "Stay" is recreated, complete with a cameo from Loeb herself. The song was also featured in the 1994 film Reality Bites.
That 90s Show season 2, part 1, was full of brilliant and nostalgic references to the 1990s. The spinoff to one of the best sitcoms of all time, That 70s Show, focused on the daughter of Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti, Leia, and her summers in Point Place.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for That '90s Show season 2!
Fez doesn't appear in That '90s Show season 2 due to Wilmer Valderrama's busy schedule filming NCIS. Fez's relationship with Sherri is seemingly abandoned in season 2 despite their season 1 fate. Sherri is also underutilized in That '90s Show season 2 despite being a comedic highlight in season 1.
Wilmer Valderrama's Fez doesn't appear in That '90s Show season 2, but his absence is made stranger when remembering the character's season 1 arc. Fez was one of the original That '70s Show characters to appear in the Netflix sequel series. Whereas Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) have a more prominent role within That '90s Show's cast, major characters like Eric (Topher Grace), Donna (Laura Prepon), Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), and Jackie (Mila Kunis) have popped in as guest stars. That said, Fez's storyline in That '90s Show season 1 was an important aspect of another new character.

That '90s Show part 2 expands roles for original characters, improving the representation of main character Leia Forman's family. Bob Pinciotti's return to That '90s Show part 2 enhances the sitcom's humor and strengthens the connection to the original series.
