Mithun Chakraborty is one of the most iconic actors in Indian cinema. From his first film Mrigayaa (1976), for which he won the National award, to his still going strong career, the actor has created incredible moments and performances onscreen.
The actor was recently awarded the honor of Dadasaheb Phalke, India’s highest award for cinema for his work in the Hindi and Bengali film industries.
Subhash K Jha talks to the actor about what the award means to him and more.
I finally got to speak to the new Dadasaheb Phalke winner late last night. Mithunda whom I’ve know since his Mrigaya days , sounded happy but tired. “I am Kolkata shooting for a Bengali film. I couldn’t believe it! I thought it was a crank call or something. The call came straight from the Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting. When the information sank in, I was numbed. I still am numbed.

In 2001, actress Karishma Tanna made her acting debut with a TV show, however, she feels that it was after her work in the 2023 release series ‘Scoop’, when people started to take her more seriously as an actor.
“Before ‘Scoop’, people knew me because I was and am in this industry for a long long time but with ‘Scoop’, I got that acting validation, people take me more seriously when it comes to the acting business. So, that’s a good shift in people’s perception. So, I am liking this new phase,” Karishma told Ians on the sidelines of Lfw x Fdci.
The actress was at the event to support the “dreams” and “passion” of aspiring designers.
Asked if she got that “support”, when she was trying to make it in the industry, Karishma said: “No, I had no support because I don’t come from this industry. I had no connections.

The next song from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s poignant tragic love story is out, Teen Gawah Hain Ishq Ke, a moving love song talking about the complete isolation of true love between two soul mates who dared to love.
The film is based on the legend of Mirza-Sahiban, a popular Punjabi folklore. And in recreating this legend, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya has been exquisitely shot in the bleak and desolate terrain of Ladakh and the vibrancy of colourful Rajasthan, which heightens the contrast between the two worlds of folklore and contemporary, yet are interwoven very intricately to bring out the story of a legend that will never die. The eternal love story resonates even today in the modern day world of Rajasthan in 2016, as seen in this song, and is a befitting testimony to two eternal and rebellious lovers.

His...

In what looks like an instant replay of the scenario in 2013, Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Shashi Kapoor won't be attending the National awards ceremony next month. "Too frail and unwell and unable to talk, Shashi would have to regrettably give the big moment a miss," informs a friend. It may be recalled here that in 2012 the Dadasaheb Phalke recipient Pran, wheelchair bound and unable to attend, had to be given his award at his home in Mumbai. Says a source very close to Shashi Kapoor, "Why must we wait until an artiste is gone or seriously unwell before giving him or her Dadasaheb Phalke award? Luckily in 2013 for us Gulzar Saab was hale and hearty and able to collect his Dadasaheb Phalke award on his own two feet. But why must so many artistes get it when they can't attend or have to attend on a wheelchair?"...

"Our family is thrilled that Shashi Uncle has been honoured. It's a great day for the Kapoors. Thank You India, thank you Government of India and thank you audience for believing in the Kapoors.
