Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2's finale.
The Mother reveals a long-hidden connection to Kwan, prompting revelations about the Flood's intentions. Kwan is given the mantle of "Protector" against the Flood, hinting at her larger purpose and destiny. The Halo season 2 finale leaves more questions than answers about Kwan's true nature and Forerunner connection.
One of the biggest questions that's plagued Halo season 2 since episode 1, "Sanctuary," is how The Mother (Olwen Fouéré) relates to Kwan Ha (Yerin Ha). While the Halo season 2 ending doesn't fully elucidate the lore, it provides a few more keys to the ever-evolving puzzle surrounding Kwan's destiny. An Insurrectionist originally from the Outer Colony planet of Madrigal, Kwan spends the bulk of her time with Soren's (Bokeem Woodbine) family in the show's sophomore outing. In "Sanctuary," she tells Soren's son, Kessler (Tylan Bailey), about an all-consuming monster: the Flood.

Spoilers are ahead for the Halo season 2 finale.
Several Spartan-IIIs fall during Admiral Parangosky's mission, leaving the program's future uncertain. The Flood infection spreads rapidly in the Halo season 2 finale, creating a terrifying hive mind. Laera sacrifices herself to contain the Flood, while Kai makes a noble play as well.
Halo season 2's finale packs a ton of action into its modest runtime, including the deaths of several crucial characters. Considering the way the Paramount+ show's sophomore outing built toward the emergence of the Flood, the bloodshed is hardly surprising. Even so, more than one member of Halo's main cast of characters won't live to see the imminent season 3. In the penultimate installment, Makee (Charlie Murphy), the Covenant's "blessed one," and Arbiter Var 'Gatanai (Viktor Åkerblom) race toward the Halo. Thanks to Cortana (Jen Taylor; Christina Bennington), Oni and the Unsc were able to track down the Covenant ship.

Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2's finale.
The Halo season 2 finale sets the stage for a thrilling season 3 with the return of Master Chief and Cortana's dynamic as well as the emergence of the Flood. The introduction of 343 Guilty Spark hints at upcoming story moments from Halo: Combat Evolved. The sacrifice of characters like Kai — and the dwindling numbers of Spartan-IIIs — create high stakes for Master Chief and humanity's future.
The Halo season 2 finale wraps up several threads, all while setting an exciting third outing into motion, especially where Master Chief's (Pablo Schreiber) story is concerned. The eighth episode, which is aptly titled "Halo," picks up where the previous installment left off. Makee (Charlie Murphy), the Covenant-raised human, and The Arbiter Var 'Gatanai (Viktor Åkerblom) are racing toward the Halo, thanks to Cortana's (Jen Taylor; Christina Bennington) quick thinking. Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episode 7.
Soren-066 is a complex character in Halo, who's torn between his humanity and his Spartan past. The Silver Team Spartans and Soren provide interesting contrasts to Master Chief in Halo season 2. Although he's traumatized by his past as a Spartan, Soren is struggling to walk away from it completely.
While Halo received backlash for introducing brand-new Spartans to Master Chief's (Pablo Schreiber) story, Bokeem Woodbine's Soren is shaping up to be one of the Paramount+ series' most compelling characters. Despite abandoning the Spartan-ii program years before the events chronicled in season 1, Soren finds himself pulled back into his former life during the show's sophomore outing. At first, he's obsessed with tracking down Natascha McElhone's Dr. Halsey, the creator of the Spartan-ii program, in a kind of vengeful play. Instead, he ends up saving the Unsc scientist during the Covenant invasion of Reach.

Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episode 7.
Dr. Halsey claims the Forerunner installation on Onyx is a library. Halsey's previous discovery of both Covenant and human DNA in the library seemingly proves her theory, as the Forerunners stored genetic material in their libraries. Forerunner libraries, like Onyx's, serve as genetic repositories to re-seed life after Halo array activation, hinting at The Flood's arrival.
Halo season 2, episode 7, "Thermopylae," reveals that the Forerunner installation on Onyx is a library — at least that's what Dr. Catherine Halsey (Natascha McElhone) claims. Previously, insurrectionist Kwan Ha (Yerin Ha) and Dr. Halsey peeled off from the larger group on Onyx, leaving Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) and Soren (Bokeem Woodbine) to pursue their own missions. While Soren and his wife, Laera (Fiona O'Shaughnessy), grapple with why the Unsc would take their son, Kessler (Tylan Bailey), the Chief infiltrates the Oni base on Onyx to find...

Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episode 6, "Onyx."
Halo season 2 continues to diverge from the game's canon, but strikes a balance between new ideas and iconic franchise moments, including a team up between Master Chief and Cortana. Master Chief and Cortana's reunion sets up one of the franchise's most compelling dynamics and hints at a storyline inspired by Halo: Combat Evolved. Much to the relief of long-time fans, Master Chief and Cortana are primed to be Halo season 3's main characters.
Halo season 2, episode 6, "Onyx," finally delivers on a team-up that fans of the video game franchise have been waiting for since the show was announced. It's no secret that the Paramount+ TV adaptation of Halo has diverged substantially from its source material. Set in an alternative Silver Timeline, the series is inspired by the core canon of the video games and books, but puts its own spin on Halo lore.

Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episode 6, "Onyx."
Dr. Halsey and Kwan Ha uncover secrets on Onyx, hinting at the planet's secret Forerunner connection. The Mother provides clues about shield worlds, teasing a potential upcoming twist that will tie into the Flood plot. Dr. Halsey's obsession with Forerunner tech and Kwan Ha's visions will seemingly lead them to uncover the truth about the Flood.
Halo season 2, episode 6, "Onyx," connects Dr. Catherine Halsey's (Natascha McElhone) knowledge of Forerunner technology and history with the Unsc to Kwan Ha (Yerin Ha) and The Mother's (Olwen Fouéré) story, which teases Halo's all-consuming, parasitic Flood villain. In its premiere episode, Halo's sophomore outing used Kwan Ha's connection to lore to hint at the Gravemind — the monstrous shared consciousness of the entire Flood species. Since then, Kwan has experienced disorienting visions of The Mother, a shaman who seemingly died when the Covenant glassed the planet Sanctuary.

Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episode 6, "Onyx."
Thermopylae is mentioned several times in the Halo show, which is a good reminder of how the story connects to the historical battle. The ship Thermopylae echoes the core canon, all while giving the destroyer a new purpose during the Fall of Reach. The use of the term "Thermopylae" reiterates the show's themes of sacrifice.
Throughout the Halo TV show's sophomore outing, various characters bring up the term "Thermopylae." During a key moment in the Fall of Reach episode, Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) mentions Thermopylae to Admiral Jacob Keyes (Danny Sapani) — an apparent reference to the evacuation ship that acts as the Pillar of Autumn's TV series stand-in. However, that's not the last time Thermopylae is mentioned. In Halo season 2, episode 6, "Onyx," ex-Spartan-turned-rebel-pirate Soren-066 (Bokeem Woodbine) mentions the term to his wife, Laera (Fiona O'Shaughnessy), while they search the titular planet.

Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episode 5, "Aleria."
Soren and Laera spend episode 5 of Halo season 2 searching for their son, Kessler. Kessler's parents eventually learn that he was taken by the Unsc. Dr. Halsey's interest in Kessler hints at larger implications for the Unsc's scientific endeavors and the future of the Spartans.
In Halo season 2, episode 5, "Aleria," Soren (Bokeem Woodbine), a Spartan-turned-pirate and Rubble insurrectionist, searches for his son, Kessler (Tylan Bailey), alongside his tough-as-nails wife Laera (Fiona O'Shaughnessy). Before Soren found himself escorting Dr. Catherine Halsey (Natascha McElhone), the Spartan program creator, through the Covenant invasion of Reach, Laera and Kessler try to flee the Rubble on Soren's ship. Unfortunately, Soren's mutinous crew turn violent once more, prompting Kwan Ha (Yerin Ha) to separate from Kessler in order to save Laera's life. Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episode 5, "Aleria."
An unlikely (and uneasy) alliance forms post-Fall of Reach between Makee and Cortana, setting up Halo season 3's narrative. Cortana's role is crucial in navigating the tense Arbiter-Makee relationship, all while setting the stage for the discovery of Halo's true purpose. Alignment with Halo game canon hints at Cortana uncovering The Flood's history before Master Chief.
Halo season 2, episode 5, "Aleria," just set up an unlikely allegiance that has huge implications for Master Chief's (Pablo Schreiber) story — as well as Halo season 3's larger narrative. The fifth episode of Halo's sophomore outing chronicles what happens after the Fall of Reach. In contrast to the action-packed "Reach," episode 5 is more contemplative and character-focused. John-117 and his fellow invasion of Reach survivors — including Riz-028 (Natasha Culzac), Soren (Bokeem Woodbine), Soren's tough-as-nails wife Laera (Fiona O'Shaughnessy), and Dr. Catherine Halsey (Natascha McElhone) — all arrive on the titular Aleria.

Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episode 5, "Aleria."
Halo season 2 has introduced Onyx, but has yet to hint at its Forerunner connection. To start, Halo explores the importance of Onyx as a training base for James Ackerson's Spartan-IIIs. The concept of shield worlds (and the aftermath of Installation-04) plays a significant role in Onyx's story.
The glimpse viewers get of Onyx at the end of Halo season 2, episode 5, "Aleria," might tease the location's importance, but it does little to reveal the planet's secret Forerunner connection. The majority of "Aleria" takes place on the episode's titular planet, following Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber), Dr. Catherine Halsey (Natascha McElhone), Riz-028 (Natasha Culzac), Kwan Ha (Yerin Ha), and the other Reach survivors who landed on the outer colony. Fittingly, after Halo reveals that the Unsc abducted Kessler (Tylan Bailey), the son of Laera (Fiona O'Shaughnessy) and ex-Spartan Soren (Bokeem Woodbine), the Paramount+ series cuts Onyx.

Spoilers for Halo season 2, episode 3, "Visegrád."
Kwan's storyline in Halo frustrates fans who wanted a show true to the core canon. Kwan's cave drawing and story in Halo season 2, episode 1 could tease the Flood as a major villain in the series' next outing. The Flood could be the key plot for Halo season 3, providing a seamless transition from the Fall of Reach storyline.
In the Halo TV show's first outing, Kwan Ha (Yerin Ha) proved to be a divisive character. Created for the TV series' timeline, the insurrectionist teen's plotline frustrated longtime franchise fans who wanted a Halo show that stayed truer to the core canon. Hailing from the outer-colony planet of Madrigal, Kwan spends the first few episodes of Halo season 2 on the Rubble, aiding Spartan deserter-turned-insurrectionist Soren's (Bokeem Woodbine) family. In particular, Kwan looks after Soren's son, Kessler (Tylan Bailey), who's always seen toting around a Master Chief helmet despite his father's leanings.

Master Chief faces new challenges and a loss of support in Halo season 2 after a time jump. The second season takes on a darker and more mysterious tone with subjective and immersive action sequences. After many years in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Halo video game franchise finally made its way out into the world as a Paramount+ streaming series back in 2022, with the first episode of the show quickly becoming Paramount+’s most-watched premiere. But while the TV series is returning for a second season, which is scheduled to begin streaming on February 8th, the first season wasn’t met with overwhelming positivity, as many fans of the video game source material were disappointed by some of the choices made for the adaptation. Not even star Pablo Schreiber, who plays the character Master Chief on the show, was entirely happy with that first season. Speaking with SFX Magazine, Schreiber revealed there was even one element that he felt was a huge mistake: the romantic storyline with Master Chief and Makee (Charlie Murphy), which even included a sex scene.

Paramount+’s two-minute official trailer for the sci-fi thriller Halo teases that when events spiral out of control, we save what we can. “Looking at your faces, I do not see defeat and I do not see surrender,” says Captain Jacob Keyes (Danny Sapani). When I caught The Möbius Trip at Glasgow Short Film Festival in March, I was instantly struck by the way it took anxieties surrounding a relatable scenario – a family going on a long car journey – and pushed them into a truly nightmarish scenario. Audiences seemed to agree, with Simone Smith’s film winning a Jury Special Mention award. Using claustrophobic framing, overlapping often foul dialogue and experimenting with hallucinogenic imagery, it expertly depicts a bickering Scottish family trying in vain to find a wedding in the middle of nowhere; striking a chord with anyone who has spent more time than they would wish to with their immediate family. Smith joins us below for a conversation in which we dig into how being with family can bring out your inner madness, shooting almost entirely within the confines of the car, and finding the film’s more visually outré tone in the process of post-production.

Halo season 2 gets a disappointing release date update. Showing confidence in the big-budget television adaptation, Halo season 2 was confirmed in March 2022, ahead of the first episode's debut. The following contains some light spoilers for Utopia.
The more common question in Utopia might be “Where is Jessica Hyde?” but “Who is Jessica Hyde?” is just as pressing. Is she friend or foe? Protagonist or antagonist? In the Amazon series, she’s both the star of a mysterious comic book that foretells viruses, biowarfare and man-made diseases, and a real person. She’s the young woman at the center of Utopia’s mystery and, as played by Sasha Lane, she’s what happens when a unique character meets a powerhouse actor.
Getting to know Jessica Hyde means understanding that she is in a fight for her life. A mysterious organization has been pursuing her for as long as she can remember. Escaping them and going on the run, first with her father and then without, transformed her into a feral yet complicated person.
