Severance is a sci-fi psychological mystery thriller drama series created by Dan Erickson. After many years in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Halo video game franchise finally made its way out into the world as a Paramount+ streaming series back in 2022, with the first episode of the show quickly becoming Paramount+’s most-watched premiere. But while the TV series is returning for a second season, which is scheduled to begin streaming on February 8th, the first season wasn’t met with overwhelming positivity, as many fans of the video game source material were disappointed by some of the choices made for the adaptation. Paramount+ has released an intense first look at the second season of Halo, promising more battles in this next chapter for Master Chief and the search for the key to humankind’s salvation or its extinction.

Showrunner David Wiener, star Pablo Schreiber and new cast member Joseph Morgan unveiled the new footage as part of a presentation at Ccxp São Paulo, Brazil on Saturday. The panel also confirmed the season two return date of Feb. 8, 2024.

The second season of the Paramount+ series based on the iconic video game franchise is set to see Schreiber’s Master Chief John-117 lead his elite team of Spartans against the Covenant, a formidable alien threat which are also teased in the nearly minute-and-a-half first look.

Following a shocking event on a desolate planet, John becomes more convinced the war is about to change and that the Covenant are preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold.

Halo season 2 gets a disappointing release date update. Showing confidence in the big-budget television adaptation, Halo season 2 was confirmed in March 2022, ahead of the first episode's debut. Filming for the second installment of the Paramount+ series began the following September, in Iceland, with lead star Pablo Schreiber and the crew occasionally sharing photos to track the show's return.

But a new update from TVLine reveals that progress on Halo season 2 is still well underway and will continue to be for some time. Asked to provide clarification on the status of the closely-followed project, they report it will be a while before new episodes arrive on Paramount+. Production on Halo Season 2 got underway this week, Paramount+ has confirmed.

The streaming service revealed that production got underway in Iceland, with additional filming to take place in Budapest, Hungary.

Joseph Morgan and Cristina Rodlo will join as new series regulars.

It was also revealed that Fiona O’Shaughnessy (Laera) and Tylan Bailey (Kessler) are set to return as series regulars for the highly anticipated second season.

Morgan joins the series as James Ackerson, a formidable intelligence operative who has spent his career climbing the ranks of the Unsc’s secretive Office of Naval Intelligence.

Rodlo is Talia Perez, a corporal specializing in linguistics for a Unsc Marine Corp communications unit and a relatively new recruit who has yet to see any real combat.

Laera (O’Shaughnessy) is Soren’s confidant, wife and partner in crime.

Soren and Laera’s son, Kessler (Bailey), has had a relatively peaceful, if unusual, childhood growing up on the Rubble.

Filming begins on Paramount+’s ‘Halo’ season 2

Season two of Paramount+’s sci-fi series Halo has started production in Iceland with two new cast members on board as season two regulars. Season two’s added Joseph Morgan and Cristina Rodlo (No One Gets Out of Here Alive) to the cast that’s led by Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) as Master Chief and Natascha McElhone (Californication) as Dr. Halsey.

Paramount+ released the following description of the upcoming season and who Morgan and Rodlo will be playing, along with details on returning cast members Fiona O’Shaughnessy and Tylan Bailey who’ve been upped to series regulars:

The successful Halo Xbox video game franchise began in 2001 and it appears that the Halo TV series also has a bright future. The military sci-fi drama series debuts on Paramount+ on March 24th and the streaming service has now renewed the show for a second season. David Wiener will join as showrunner and an executive producer.

Paramount+ today announced that its highly anticipated upcoming series Halo, based on the iconic Xbox franchise, has been renewed for a second season prior to the series’ upcoming launch on Thursday, March 24, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and in all international markets where the streaming service is available.

In addition, David Wiener will join the series as showrunner and executive producer for the second season.

The sci-fi drama, which stars Pablo Schreiber as video game icon Master Chief, has gone through a number of hoops to get to the ViacomCBS streaming platform – from switching over from Showtime to Paramount+ to the exit of co-showrunner Kyle Kinnen in 2018.
