Yesterday, amid a crush of sweaty people desperate for last-minute props, I visited a local Halloween superstore with my daughter, looking for a Pikachu mask. Well, there wasn’t much to choose from in the Cute Kid Division. But this particular hall of Halloween hell definitely had the adult sensibility covered. Of course there were the usual skimpy or otherwise outrageous costumes for purchase —ladies, you can dress up like a sexy Kim Kardashian-esque vampire out for a night of Hollywood clubbing, and gents, how about impressing all the sexy Kim Kardashian vampires at your party by dressing up like a walking, talking matched set of cock and balls! It’s been a while since I’ve shopped for fake tools of terror, but it seems there’s been a real advance in sophistication in the market for “Leatherface-approved” (I swear) chainsaws with moving parts and authentic revving noises,...

A haunted past bears painful memories, but the ghosts of the mind can be controlled. For ex-convict Alex Locke, though, the bygone days he’d rather forget physically re-enter his world. The first of a trilogy, Mark Morris’ The Wolves of London sees Alex pursued by otherworldly killers after he steals the Obsidian Heart, a relic capable of time travel, and Titan Books has provided us with an exclusive excerpt.
“A psychology professor living with his young daughter, Alex Locke is an ex-convict who’s been able to put his past behind him. When his older daughter is threatened with violence, however, he is forced back into that world in an effort to secure the cash to save her. After a botched theft of an obsidian heart for a young woman named Clover Munro, Alex and Clover are forced to go on the run. They are pursued by a variety...

Darren Aronofsky's biblical blockbuster has three incarnations in print, but novels spawned by films are nothing new. What's their genesis?
If anyone tells you films, television, video games and the internet are sounding the death knell for the printed book, take them to any Us bookshop and show them the three tomes spawned by Darren Aronofsky's Noah. One, Noah the graphic novel, by Niko Henrichon (art), Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel, which can be found in the comic book section. Two, lurking on the young adult shelves, Noah: Ila's Story, by Susan Korman. And finally, Noah the old-fashioned "official screenplay novelisation", by veteran of the genre Mark Morris, and most likely to be found in sci-fi/fantasy rather than religion.
Meanwhile, over among the hardbacks, and prominently displayed, as befits a product with a lot of corporate heft behind it, we discover that pop culture's high priest of the lowbrow,...

Tuesdays are when new books are typically released, and horror fans usually don’t have too much trouble finding something to read. There is Amazon of course and publishers like Samhain and Cemetery Dance…
We also boast authors ranging from "The King" himself to Dan Simmons, Robert McCammon, the late Thomas Tryon, Tim Curran, Aussies Stephen Irwin, Brett McBean, and Aaron Dries as well as Brits such as David Moody, anthologist Stephen Jones, and Mark Morris, to name just a very few.
But what if you long for the paperback originals which seemed to flood bookstores back in the 80s or want to read even earlier horror that is long out of print? What to do? Well, you turn to Valancourt Books to assuage those yearnings. And we recently spoke with Ryan Cagle, one half of the publishing team that brings those long unavailable titles to life for readers to enjoy again,...

Mark Morris has written tie-in novels for Hellboy, Spartacus, Doctor Who and Torchwood, and novelizations for Vampire Circus and the game Dead Island. Titan Books recently released Noah: The Official Movie Novelization, here is my review.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, which I anticipate will be worth a viewing. I don’t believe that the tale of Noah is anything more than that, a tale.; though I will be reviewing the book much like I read other books and watch other movies – without prejudice. Like most people I am familiar with the story of Noah. It’s just one of those stories I remember finding interesting when I was a child. This retelling is definitely more interesting, and exciting as far as action and fiction goes.
The interesting part in this adaptation, and perhaps it’s the same in the movie is that Noah’s actions are based...

A new digital-only Doctor Who eBook will explore the final days of Matt Smith's Doctor.
Tales of Trenzalore is comprised of four separate tales, each featuring a classic Doctor Who monster.
The Ice Warriors return in 'Let It Snow' by Justin Richards, 'An Apple a Day' by George Mann reintroduces The Krynoids, while the Autons are back in Paul Finch's 'Strangers in the Outland' and the Mara reappears in 'The Dreaming' by Mark Morris.
The tales are set during the 900 years that the Doctor spent defending the town of Christmas, as referenced in Smith's final outing, 'The Time of the Doctor'.
The book's blurb reads: "As it had been foretold, the armies of the Universe gathered at Trenzalore. Only one thing stood between the planet and destruction - the Doctor. For 900 years, he defended the planet, and the tiny town of Christmas, against the forces that would destroy it.

Hammer made a nice little comeback last year with The Woman in Black. While I wasn’t the hugest fan of the film, I dug the atmosphere it brought to audiences. It also felt like British Horror, something I admired even more. Hammer has created six audio dramas that vary from 30 to 45 minutes each and will be released in a digipack later this week. If you order the digipack, you will get the audio files immediately. You can also buy the tracks individually if you want to give one of them a listen. Between this and Tales from Beyond the Pale, it’s nice to see horror audio making a comeback. We have included toggles below which include synopses & links below.

Michael Sládek's film BAM150 is a treasure chest filled with interviews of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Brook, Isabella Rossellini, Laurie Anderson, Mark Morris, Robert Wilson, William Forsythe and Wim Wenders at BAMcinématek for his film Pina. With clips of performances from Pina Bausch to Merce Cunningham, Sládek intimately chronicles the first 150 years of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (Bam). Even Roman Polanski acknowledged the importance of Bam to signal Brooklyn in his 2011 Carnage, starring Christoph Waltz, Jody Foster, Kate Winslet, John C. Reilly.
At Bam, I spoke with the director on the challenges of making a film combining performance with historical background. Traces of Stanley Donen's On the Town and the Berliner Ensemble's The Threepenny Opera start the journey.

An undiagnosed geek from a young age, I quickly became a fan of horror, aided by the fact that my father let me watch The Exorcist and Dawn Of The Dead before I reached primary school. Social services were not involved.

Introversion Software -- the indies behind real-time strategy gems like “Darwinia” and “Multiwinia” -- have announced that they’ve sold over $1 million worth of pre-orders for “Prison Architect,” their upcoming prison management sim.
Players who pre-order “Prison Architect” will gain access to the on-going alpha version of the game in addition to Windows, Mac, and Linux versions of the final release, similar to Klei’s own “Don’t Starve” campaign. From its work with film star Emily Blunt to its super-wealthy founder, few contemporary dance companies enjoy more success than New York's Cedar Lake – or attract more controversy
There's a scene in the 2011 film The Adjustment Bureau when Matt Damon, urgently trying to reconnect with the woman he loves, storms into a New York cafe and demands: "Has anyone here seen a performance at Cedar Lake ballet?" In Britain, this was the first time many had heard of Cedar Lake – either as the fictional troupe in which Damon's elusive girlfriend performs or as the real-life company with which his co-star Emily Blunt trained to prepare for her role.
Now Cedar Lake are here in the UK in the flesh. And, as it happens, they have a far more intriguing backstory than this brief brush with movie fame. Founded nine years ago by Nancy Laurie, heiress to the Walmart fortune, some...

The End of The Line collects some of the best in new horror writing in a themed anthology of stories set on and around the London Underground, the Metro and other places deep below.
This collection of 19 new stories includes subterranean tales by Ramsey Campbell, Christopher Fowler, Mark Morris, Pat Cadigan, Adam Nevill and Michael Marshall Smith, among many others.
The end of July is the deadline for voting by members of the Bfs, as well as attendees of the annual FantasyCon event - where the winners will be announced in September.
