Robert W. Miller has been a prolific composer in film, television and the concert hall for over 32 years. A native of NYC, Robert attended the Mannes College of Music in New York City, and was encouraged to enter the world of film scoring by his mentors Aaron Copland, William Schuman and Edgar David Grana.
Robert has provided scores for over 2,700 commercials with notable directors including Noam Murro, Rupert Sanders, Dante Ariola, John Hillcoat, and Lance Acord. His work is featured in over 70 film scores, two television series, and numerous works for the concert hall and stage. Among Robert's work in film are several collaborations with pioneering editor and sound designer, Walter Murch, renowned documentarian Eugene Jarecki, ten time Emmy award winning director Jon Hock, Steven Spielberg (as executive producer) and Oscar-winning director Thomas Lennon. In addition, Robert received critical acclaim for his score for the cult classic "Teeth" directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein. In 2017, Robert collaborated with choreographer Troy Schumacher on a new ballet entitled "The Wind Still Brings" for the New York City Ballet.
Robert also has a long standing creative relationship with Neil deGrasse Tyson and The American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium, having scored five Space Shows since 2008, including the planetarium's newest show, "Worlds Beyond Earth." In recent months, Robert provided the score for John Hock's four part series "'72 Gathering of Champions" and is currently working on films with directors Eugene Jarecki and Marc Levinson. Robert's work has garnered the industry's highest honors: British Academy Television Awards, ADDY's, AICPs, seven CLIO's and Emmy Awards for both film and TV commercials. His latest film, "Coup 53," is earning accolades from critics worldwide and scored a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. This past October, Robert re-orchestrated a famous Gershwin/Balanchine ballet for the NYC ballet's fall gala.
