Lucy Liu, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Olivia Wilde, Beanie Feldstein and Joanna Calo gathered together at a cocktail party Thursday evening in New York City to name the grant recipient of the 2024 Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program.
The five women served as this year’s jury for the annual program, which provides industry support and artistic development to self-identifying women and non-binary filmmakers. After an intensive, three-day workshop, Liu, Randolph, Wilde, Feldstein and Calo awarded writer-director Sophia Youssef and producer Céline Bava-Helms the grand prize for their short film, “Black Shore.”
“We thought that ‘Black Shore’ was very ambitious and world-building,” Liu told Variety at the cocktail event on the upper terrace of the Greenwich Hotel’s Tribeca penthouse. “And it was different from the other projects because it was so expansive.”
Liu recalled the jury’s deliberation process after hearing pitches from the emerging filmmakers.

Ryan North’s Fantastic Four has been a huge surprise. Marvel’s First Family usually produces quality content, but this series has been special. It’s focused more on the emotions of the team and the family dynamic as they go on their normal wild and universe-shattering adventures. After twenty-four issues of sweet and loving moments, I should have known that something heartbreaking was about to happen in the comic series. And it did in issue No. 25.
The 25th issue is a milestone. Some comics get canceled before they get to a year. Others before they reach printing. So when a creative team gets to No. 25, they should do something extraordinary. Or, in this case, fantastic. Writer Ryan North decided to bring Reed, Johnny, Sue, and Ben to another planet so the Human Torch could fall in love with one of the aliens, Angelica of the Shore.

An unrepentant maximalist whose genre movies are defined by the mad gluttony of someone born to leave it all on screen, Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto is nothing if not easy to root for. There’s something indivisibly pure and precious about a guy who doesn’t know the meaning of the words “too much;” whose horror stuff (especially the “Safe Haven” short he contributed to “V/H/S/2”) goes so far beyond the pale that it makes a delicious meal out of its own bad taste, and whose orgiastic action fare is so hyper-violent that it makes you wonder if it’s possible to run out of CGI blood.
Alas, that muchness — beautiful as it might be in theory — is also something of a double-edged sword, and Tjahjanto still isn’t precise enough to use it without disfiguring his own vision in the process. Which is to say that, like “The Night Comes for Us” before it,...

By the power of Jeff Goldblum, Kaos might just reign once again.
Although Netflix has yet to renew the series for Season 2, creator Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World) said the streaming platform has “been very supportive” of the show, which puts a contemporary spin on the classic tales of Greek mythology.
“I think anything is possible,” Covell told Cosmopolitan UK. “My dream was three seasons. I’ve got many ideas and a strong sense of what I’d want to do with it.”
They added about the potential for a sophomore season, “There’s definitely more. I also didn’t want to do an ending that was a total cliffhanger. I hope that it feels satisfying as a season one in its own right, and there’s always hope for the more. Because I really would love to do more and work with those actors and that team.

For those who want something a little more adult than Percy Jackson, but slightly less dark than American Gods, Kaos may be the modern mythological reimagining you’re looking for. It’s a darkly comedic, rambunctious family affair from creator Charlie Covell (The End Of The F**king World), whose irreverent take will have you falling for gods and mortals alike.
Jeff Goldblum is in his element as Zeus, the king of the gods, playing him as notoriously unstable and self-obsessed. It seems that all of his family have left him alone on Mount Olympus, with the exception of his wife, Hera (Janet McTeer), and his son, Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan). When an unknown group of mortals hijack Olympia’s offering to the gods with a literal pile of shit, Zeus is forced to face the fact that his family is falling apart, and people...

After wowing us as John Dee in The Sandman two years ago, David Thewlis is back again on Netflix. The British thespian plays the god of the Underworld, Hades, in Charlie Covell’s Kaos, which can be described as a magnificent modern-day update of Greek mythology. It’s no surprise that Thewlis has knocked it out of the park as Hades. In this article, we’re going to shed light on Hades’ journey in the show and what the future holds for him.

Before going into Hades, let us look into the Underworld of Kaos for a bit. It’s basically the place where you end up after your death and stay till you get to have your renewal. The term renewal basically means rebirth. There’s a condition, though. To get a renewal, one must be buried with a coin. Without the coin,...

Success of shows like Ragnarok and American Gods paved the way for reimagination of established world myths in a modern setting, but the air of seriousness in the tone and usual action-adventure structure of such narratives greatly hindered the possibilities of exploration of new ideas. In that context, Charlie Covell’s dark comedy series, Kaos, a satirical, topical retelling of the Greek mythological lore set against a contemporary backdrop, shows the potential of innovation in storytelling by showcasing the similarity between real-world complications of class, social structure, segregation, and governance and the stuff of myths and epics in a quirky, unique way. Without depending on spectacle, solely driven by a taut plotline and well-written characters, Kaos is surely going to be a strong contender among top original media released on Netflix.

Plot: Having long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods, Zeus’ reign has never been truly threatened. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction, neurosis sets in: Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming. As his paranoia takes hold, the God of Gods – seeing signs everywhere – starts to dangerously self-destruct. And he’s right to be worried. Zeus’ one time friend and now prisoner, Prometheus, is orchestrating a plan to bring him down. The plan involves three disparate humans, all of whom are totally unaware of their cosmic significance or the part they must play in saving the world. No pressure. (Some pressure).

Kaos is basically about Zeus, the king of gods, and how his hunger for power destroys his reign. The Netflix modernized mythological retelling is perfectly entertaining and also quite original; it uses the gods in the most humanized way and brings them down to Earth, quite literally. In this world, the gods roam the Earth as and when they please and bring chaos with them. Zeus starts to panic when the Trojans rebel against the gods and desecrate the great art installation for the Olympians. The reason this terrifies Zeus is because there’s a prophecy that basically foretells his doom, and where does this start? When humans start to think the gods are not worth it. What Zeus doesn’t realize is that the Trojans are warring with him because he didn’t protect them, and they had everything stolen from them. The dude’s so stuck up that...

Netflix comedy Kaos occasionally feels like it’s stepped out of the same universe as “Sandman.” No, I know it’s much more colorful and, well, “chaotic,” but maybe it’s the act of bringing gods to life with English accents and eccentric fashion that makes me think that way. But with that said, I think the show is a well-executed comedy that at the heart of it is about our basic human “feelings;” love, power, jealousy, hatred, you know the works. The show delivers two simple messages: worship isn’t going to get you anywhere, and power doesn’t last forever. But it’s action-packed and a lighthearted retelling, or should I say, a fictional retelling of Greek mythology that expands the story that we are already familiar with. In the world of Kaos, prophecies are what people live and die for, so we’ve got to keep that...

From the writer of The End of the F*cking World and the producers of Chernobyl, the 8-episode series revolves around three humans and a demigod as they discover their connection to each other and to a long-standing ancient prophecy while being forced to contend with the corrupt and arrogant gods of Greek mythology.
The footage introduces Goldblum's stylish take on Zeus, who lives in the lap of luxury while demanding that mortals worship him. It seems his power is diminished when humans stop fearing the gods, and Zeus sets out to do something about it.

Jeff Goldblum is a cruel and decidedly cool King of the Gods and ruler of the world Zeus in the trailer for Netflix’s darkly comic series Kaos.
As Greek mythology gets a modern twist, an increasingly paranoid Goldblum must contend with mortals with powers to bring him down, and a dysfunctional family with powerful siblings scheming and failing among one another in the trailer that dropped on Monday.
“We need to make destruction really sing,” Goldblum, channeling Logan Roy and wearing designer track suits, says at one point in the teaser trailer for the Greek mythology drama from creator and writer Charlie Covell, who earlier wrote the British drama The End of the Fucking World for Netflix.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Kaos,” which will release on Netflix Aug. 29.
The upcoming Netflix drama “Kaos” is an old tale with a distinctly modern spin. Jeff Goldblum stars as Zeus, king of the gods, but in this telling he’s an aging, sexually incontinent, increasingly paranoid figure — Logan Roy springs to mind — trying to keep his grip on his family and his empire.
“Why do we come back to myths?” says creator Charlie Covell, musing on the source material of the series, which drops on Aug. 29. “They’re timeless; the issues are eternal.” Indeed, the story has been a long time in the making for Covell, who sees the themes of “power, abuse of power, love, death, family and dysfunctional family” as continually relevant — and eternally fascinating — to audiences.
“Kaos,” like “Succession,” centers on powerful siblings at each other’s throats, but these are no mere mortals...

Magic grows precociously on Mayfair Witches as season 2 is set to adapt Lasher. The second book in Anne Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches series follows Dr. Rowan Mayfair (Alexandra Daddario), who recently gave birth to once-and-future family demon, Lasher (Jack Huston). To celebrate the unholy occasion, Den of Geek summoned the cast and creatives assembled for San Diego Comic-Con. Actors Daddario, Harry Hamlin, Tongayi Chirisa, Ben Feldman, and Alyssa Jirrels, as well as Mark Johnson, who oversees AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe, and showrunner Esta Spalding, openly attest to past misdeeds, transgressions to come, and abominations still awaiting forensic excavation.
Mayfair Witches’ season 1 finale, “What Rough Beast,” revealed Hamlin’s Cortland Mayfair as Rowan’s biological father, conceived under heinous circumstances. The predatory family patriarch’s world is rocked forever. The conclusion sees Cortland transformed into a statue in retribution for the sanity-shredding assault on Deirdre Mayfair...

Netflix’s animated series, From Me to You, is a beautiful high school drama that will surely make you nostalgic of all those high school crushes, first loves, and heartbreaks. I personally related to the journey of all these lead characters portrayed in the anime series. There was something unexplainable about their innocence and how they tried to come out of their shells to become a better person. Nevertheless, we will be talking about those complex feelings in our recap of the first two seasons, so without further ado, let’s dive straight into it.

After a series of brief teaser promos, Netflix has released a full trailer for its upcoming Greek mythology show, Kaos, which stars Jeff Goldblum as the all-powerful King of the Gods, Zeus.
From the writer of The End of the F*cking World and the producers of Chernobyl, the 8-episode series is a mythological dark-comedy which revolves around six humans as they discover their connection to each other and to a long-standing ancient prophecy while being forced to contend with the corrupt and arrogant gods of Greek mythology.
The footage introduces Goldblum's stylish take on Zeus, who lives in the lap of luxury while demanding that mortals worship him. It seems his power is diminished when humans stop believing in and fearing the gods, and Zeus sets out to do something about it.
Zeus' exact plan is not explained here, but it sounds like he intends to unleash the might...

"The war has begun." Netflix has debuted another new teaser trailer for a series titled Kaos, described as a "modern day contemporary retelling of Greek mythology." This looks brutal and kinda scary! With the world of The Boys taking drastic measures to survive in whichever way possible, some of its characters are quite literally a hair’s breadth away from meeting an excruciating end. As the gory, risqué series enters the final leg of its grotesque and transformative journey, some essential elements of its plot need to be rehashed before the fans can witness a satisfying conclusion to the story.

While some characters desperately hold on to whatever remnants of power they still possess under Homelander’s age of anarchy, it is a tragic fate for those who are pitiably human, even in the face of a nuclear super-human war. However, the most pitiable of all is the one thriving right under the nose of Vought and the Seven.

The Boys Season 4’s finale has pulled off some insane twists that may prove instrumental in the Amazon Prime series’ final season. Despite garnering a mixed reception for its slow pacing and political undercurrent, the finale has established some key players for the impending endgame.
Billy Butcher was one of the characters who did not seem to be in excellent shape for most of Season 4. However, after that surprising finale, it looks like he and another character will be instrumental in bringing Homelander down.
Billy Butcher in The Boys | Amazon Prime Video
The Boys started as a gore-filled satire on the concepts of superheroes cemented by Marvel and DC. As Eric Kripke has finally stated that the saga will finally conclude after five seasons, the makers are burdened to give a worthy farewell to our favorite characters. Now, season 4’s finale episode has made it clear that they have already started planning for it.

Fortnite’s Chapter 5 was released with a lot of promise and brought a lot of interesting things with it, but there is still one thing that people were not pleased with, and it was something that was hiding in plain sight for everyone to notice, once pointed out.
Chapter 5 adds interesting lore to the Fortnite universe and offers extensive worldbuilding, and the introduction of Peter Griffin as one of the easter eggs was a really fun crossover addition to the game. However, the chapter has been heavily criticized for its visual representation of the world.

For over 80 years now, Marvel Comics has captivated many generations of fans with its ever-growing world of amazing superheroes. Famous characters like Spider-Man and Iron Man are very popular, but Marvel also has newer heroes people love like Black Panther and Captain Marvel. With so many heroic characters to pick from, how do you decide which ones are the absolute best of the best?
To make this big choice, we looked at a few important things for each hero. We thought about how important and well-known they are in the whole Marvel universe. We also considered how popular they’ve stayed with readers over many decades. Plus, we looked at which heroes played key roles in important comic storylines. And we saw how much each character developed and changed over time.
The heroes that scored highest across all these areas really stand out as some of the most impactful and meaningful Marvel heroes ever.

Yesterday evening, the news broke that Disney has resurrected the "Marvel Television" banner for future live-action TV shows on Disney+. The hope is that this will allow that division to focus on streaming, while Marvel Studios concentrates on the movies.

The news got us thinking about the original Marvel Television's stint and the many mistakes made under the man in charge, Jeph Loeb. In this feature, we take a look back at their biggest blunders and what Marvel Studios can learn from them.

The fashionable and evil Cruella De Vil graces collectors with her presence thanks to a new Darkness Descends Series doll from Mattel. This may be the best the One Hundred and One Dalmatians character has ever looked since Glenn Close played her in 1996.
The doll, priced at $100, will be available for pre-order at 9 Am Pt on May 6.
The best part of this doll is the packaging. While Cruella may be glamorous in doll form, the back of her box showcases the villainess we know from the classic 1961 film.
Yes, they put that terrifying Medusa-like image of Cruella on the back of the collector’s box. Oh, if only the doll had an alternate head with that nightmare-inducing face.
“From Disney’s 1961 film ‘One Hundred and One Dalmatians,’ Cruella De Vil will stop at nothing to own the ultimate fur coat. This special collector doll celebrates Cruella’s transformation from miserable to maniacal,...

Anthrax played their first show with original bassist Dan Lilker in 40 years on Saturday, April 13th, in Mexico City.
Lilker is filling in on Anthrax’s South American run and Spring 2024 US festival dates for Frank Bello, who is sitting out the shows due to “personal reasons.” The band kicked of the itinerary in Mexico City at Mxmf The Metal Fest, running through a 12-song set that leaned heavily on Anthrax’s most popular songs.

Lilker co-founded Anthrax in 1981 as the band’s original bassist and occasional guitarist. Garraka, the creepy demon in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” who gives New York a “Death Chill,” was animated by Sony Pictures Imageworks with an eye toward Ray Harryhausen’s legendary stop-motion creatures from “Jason and the Argonauts.” In fact, the team paid particular attention to the skeleton army and Medusa for performance reference. That’s because director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”), who voiced Garraka, wanted to combine puppetry, stop motion, animatronics, and CG to evoke the handcrafted charm of the original “Ghostbusters” from 1984.
In this sequel to “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” the once powerful Garraka, who’s imprisoned in a brass orb by ancient Fire Masters, is inadvertently set free by the Ghostbusters and unleashed on New York. His “Death Chill” breath can freeze his victims and cause them to shatter like tiny crystals. What’s more, Garraka can deep freeze the entire planet, and his plan is to take over by resurrecting an army of the undead.
