Exclusive: Peacock has canceled In the Know, its first foray into adult animation that combined stop-motion animation and live-action interviews. The freshman series was from Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-Head, Silicon Valley), Zach Woods and Brandon Gardner.
The public radio parody chronicled the making of NPR’s fictional “third most popular host” Lauren Caspian’s radio program, on which he conducts in-depth interviews with guests that included Kaia Gerber, Ken Burns, Finn Wolfhard, Norah Jones, Mike Tyson, Hugh Laurie, Jorge Masvisdal and more.
The voice-over cast included Woods, Judge, Caitlin Reilly, Charlie Bushnell, J. Smith Cameron and Carl Tart. The six-episode season premiered January 25, 2024, two years after Peacock announced it was following other streamers like Netflix and Paramount+ by making the move into adult animation.

The holidays are a great time for making memories. Granted, there’s no guarantee what kind of memories you’ll be making — that can and will depend on the people and situations involved. Some memories may be precious and heartwarming. Some may be, well, infuriating. And some might be just a little bit on the strange side. We’d place this holiday story from one of our favorite actors, Hugh Laurie, in that last category. And we wouldn’t dare give you any spoilers, so you’ll just have to listen to Laurie tell the story. (Click on the media bar below hear Hugh Laurie.) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Hugh-Laurie_Xmas.mp3

What’s Christmas without “A Christmas Carol”? There’s a reason why Charles Dickens’ classic has been made over and over: It’s always timely to remind people of the real spirit of the season. Pipe-smoking, funny-hat-wearing detective Sherlock Holmes is the standard by which many beloved sleuths are compared to and understandably so. Created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Baker Street's most beloved resident has been in 56 short stories and 70 films that have adapted his adventures, with some of the best iterations being played by the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Benedict Cumberbatch and Wishbone the dog. But was there ever a real Sherlock Holmes to begin with?
Well, however improbable it may be that there was a detective that battled with hellish Baskerville hounds or mentally dueled an evil mastermind over a waterfall, Doyle's beloved detective was very much inspired by a real person. Born in 1837, Joseph Bell was a Scottish surgeon and lecturer at the University of Edinburgh who taught Doyle for a year during his medical studies and chose him as his outpatient clerk. Joe Barton, the mind behind Giri/Haji, returns with Black Doves—a spy series that boldly merges the high-stakes intensity of espionage drama with the warmth and sentimentality of a holiday movie. This unique tonal blend sets Netflix’s Black Doves apart, carving a place for itself alongside modern espionage hits like Slow Horses and The Agency. With its emotionally complex characters and intrigue-laden narrative, the series signals a renaissance of the spy thriller genre in television. Set against the shimmering backdrop of a Christmastime London, Black Doves follows Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a former honeytrap operative turned housewife, whose life unravels when her lover is assassinated. Her thirst for revenge draws her back into the shadowy world of international espionage, putting her at odds with her handler, Mrs. Reed (Sarah Lancashire), and entangling her with Sam (Ben Whishaw), a morally ambiguous triggerman haunted by a failed mission from his past.

It's been five years since "Game of Thrones" ended, and the behemoth series still seems to be the touchstone HBO is obsessed with returning to. It makes sense that a network with a hit as big as the George R.R. Martin-inspired fantasy epic under its belt would want to replicate that series' success. "Game of Thrones" raked in more viewers than the prestige cable network had ever seen before, broke a Guinness World Record by airing in 173 countries simultaneously, and won a whopping 59 Emmys. Even with a marked quality drop in its later seasons, "Thrones" was still undoubtedly the biggest phenomenon on TV.
So why have the shows HBO has made since then, including the ones that have matched "Thrones" in ratings, failed to tap into the pop cultural zeitgeist in the same all-encompassing way? There are several factors worth considering here, from an oversaturated streaming market to a...

In the fall of 2004, Fox didn’t have a trusty procedural like NBC’s Law & Order and CBS’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. So the network took a chance on House, a medical drama with episodic storylines driven by conditions, not crimes, and a British actor little known to stateside audiences playing a diagnostician with zero bedside manner. House became a commercial and critical hit, and it all started with the pilot episode, which aired on Fox on November 16, 2004. In that first episode, Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is shirking his duty at the Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital’s walk-in clinic, and he also brushes off the case of a kindergarten teacher named Rebecca Adler (Robin Tunney), who’s experiencing speech problems and seizures. When boss Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) revokes House’s diagnostic authorizations, he relents and takes a shift at the clinic — and while treating an asthmatic boy, he...

As a result of a spectacular 8-season run that lasted from 2005 to 2012, House M.D. became one of the most iconic medical drama series ever produced. Led by the utterly talented Hugh Laurie, the series gripped its audiences with colorful characters, complex mysteries, and unconventional medical solutions.

Can you believe it’s been over 12 years since House ended?!
The Fox medical television show ended its run after eight seasons on the network, and after winning several awards, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and three Creative Arts Emmys.
Starring Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Lisa Edelstein, Jennifer Morrison, Peter Jacobson, Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, Amber Tamblyn, Odette Annable and Charlyne Yi, the series focused on Dr. Gregory House (Laurie), who is devoid of anything resembling bedside manner and wouldn’t even talk to his patients if he could get away with it. Dealing with his own constant physical pain, he uses a cane that seems to punctuate his acerbic, brutally honest demeanor.
While his behavior can border on antisocial, House is a brilliant diagnostician whose unconventional thinking and flawless instincts afford him widespread respect. An infectious disease specialist, House thrives on the challenge of...

Nobody thinks they’ve got an accent, which means they really notice when someone is imitating their accent so badly that it borders on mockery. For instance, most Americans would describe their own speech as “normal,” but have you ever heard a foreign actor just completely bomb it? If not, go watch Iwan Rheon pretend to be an American rock star in The Dirt, Just his scenes, though. That movie is a lot.
That’s why it’s all the more impressive when they get it right, even if, by the nature of getting it right, you never even notice. “In high school, I remember people being shocked to learn Hugh Laurie was English when House was huge,” Redditor homeMalone89 told r/Movies. “I think Daniel Kaluuya’s American accent work is the best there currently is.”

Exclusive: Guy Ritchie’s Young Sherlock series has cast the title character’s older brother. Max Irons (Condor) is set as a series regular on the Prime Video show, playing Mycroft Holmes opposite Hero Fiennes Tiffin’s Sherlock. Speculation about Irons’ casting started last month when he was snapped on the set of the series; his character had not been revealed until now.
Inspired by Andy Lane’s book series, Young Sherlock is described as an irreverent, action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in a re-imagining of this iconic character. At age 19, Sherlock Holmes (Fiennes Tiffin) is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.

Though inspired by famed neurologist Oliver Sacks (Awakenings), Brilliant Minds’ maverick doctor hero Oliver Wolf (the intense Zachary Quinto) also owes a debt to his TV predecessors. Like Hugh Laurie in House, he’s an abrasive rule-breaker, a genius who annoys those in authority while solving profound medical mysteries—think of him as a brain whisperer—with quirky interns eagerly following his every move. Like Freddie Highmore in The Good Doctor, he has a condition you wouldn’t expect in a healer: face blindness. “It makes you look so much deeper. You see the stuff the rest of us miss,” a colleague assures him, perhaps a bit too on the nose. Also rare in a lead character, Oliver is openly gay, although in the first episodes, his affections are focused solely on his noble profession and his considerable empathy reserved for his troubled patients. The cases of the week tend...

I know it doesn’t feel like 2004 was 20 years ago, but it was, which means many great TV shows just turned 20 years old.
Seriously, 2004 is a sneaky good year for new TV premieres. Most of the titles on this list of good TV shows turning 20 years old in 2024 were broadcast hits. The cable networks had a decent market share in the early 2000s, but we’re still a decade before the streaming industry changed the TV game.
At this point in TV history, we’re still seven years before the Game of Thrones premiere. Remember that, please!
Let’s get the list started with the best show of 2004!

House is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall so what better time to check in on how old the cast of the Fox hit was then and now!
Premiering on Nov. 16, 2004, House centered around Gregory House, an absolute medical genius with a Sherlock Holmes ability to unravel medical mysteries that baffled other doctors. However, thanks to pain from a blood clot in his leg that had him relying on a cane, House was also an arrogant, selfish, cynical jerk insulting everyone around him.
The show became one of Fox's biggest hits of the decade, running eight seasons with Laurie earning two Golden Globes and several Emmy nominations. It also boosted many of its cast to future stardom. So how old were the actors then and now?

"Bones" enjoyed a ridiculously healthy run on Fox from 2005 to 2017. With 12 seasons and well over 200 episodes under its belt, we're talking about one of the more successful network shows of the modern era. Getting any show made is hard. Making one this enduring? It's almost impossible. Any number of things can derail a show from a casting decision to the whims of a network. But everything went right for this series. Would it have been as successful with a different title? We'll never know but "Bones" was very nearly called something else before Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz came into the picture.
In "Bones: The Official Companion," creator Hart Hanson reveals the show's creatives were struggling to find the right title during development. At one point, the idea was to simply call the show "Brennan" after its lead character, Temperance Brennan, not unlike Fox's other very successful 2000s series "House,...

Hugh Laurie has never won an Emmy. That seems like an egregious oversight on behalf of TV academy voters, considering the British actor starred as one of the best TV characters of this century in “House.” Still, 10 nominations (we’ll get to those later) and zero wins.
He could finally break that losing streak with Netflix’s “All the Light We Cannot See.” Adapted from Anthony Doerr‘s 2014 novel of the same name, written by Steven Knight, and directed by Shawn Levy, this miniseries depicts the lives of two teenagers during WWII — one a blind French girl and the other a German boy forced to fight for the Nazi regime. Laurie features as Uncle Étienne, a reclusive, agoraphobic WWI veteran suffering from Ptsd. Laurie has always been a classy performer and he again brings a lot of heart, warmth, and intelligence here to this role, as noted by several critics.

Olivia Colman is among the cast returning for series 2 of The Night Manager, and here are the details.

Earlier this year, the BBC confirmed that two more series have been commissioned and will be filmed back to back, presumably owing to Hiddleston’s busy schedule. Farr returned to write the scripts,...
