While genres like pop, rock and R&b tend to make the most headlines at the Grammy Awards and fill most slots in the four general field categories — Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist — the Grammys cast a much wider net every year, honoring the best in fields as diverse as jazz, classical, new age, spoken-word and much more. The list of the Grammys’ most awarded artists of all time is just as diverse.
The most awarded musicians of all time include rap, country, rock and classical winners, and they range from singers to composers to conductors. But while the list is musically diverse, it does predominantly skew towards solo male artists. There is only one group in the top 14 (Irish rockers U2), and only two women (country darling Alison Krauss and R&b star Beyoncé).

The Grammy Awards are to the music industry and the Academy Awards are to the film industry. Established in 1959 by the Recording Academy of the United States, they honor artistic and technical excellence in the music industry.
Often hailed as ‘music’s biggest nights,’ the Grammy’s celebrated the creativity, talent, and dedication of artists, producers, songwriters, and more across the world and across a wide array of genres. Thus, winning a Grammy award is considered to be one of the biggest accolades in the music world.

Given her two albums and tours with Robert Plant, including one last summer, it’s easy to forget that Alison Krauss is in another band too, and has been for a while. On March 28, we will be reminded with the release of Arcadia, the first album in 14 years by Krauss and Union Station, her longtime acoustic band.
Billed as an album of songs that are “contemporary reflections on history,” Arcadia features tunes written by an array of writers, including Jd McPherson and Sarah Siskind (whose “Simple Love” was included on...

Bob Dylan has released the initial dates for the 2025 leg of his Never Ending Tour, and it features stops in small markets that rarely get A-list acts. The tour begins March 25 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and then heads to Wichita, Kansas; Mankato, Minnesota; and Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Mankato is the 21st-largest city in Dylan’s birth state of Minnesota. The population is a mere 46,000, and the venue Dylan is hitting usually hosts events like the Folsom Prison Experience (a Johnny Cash tribute show), the Minnesota Valley Action Council’s Lip Sync Battle,...

Ringo always wanted to be a cowboy. He grew up in the toughest corner of Liverpool, dreaming of escaping to the Wild West, hoping to emigrate to Texas. He was the biggest country fan in the Beatles, the one who sang the Buck Owens classic “Act Naturally” as well as original twangers like “What Goes On” and “Don’t Pass Me By.” Now in his eighties, still a hell of a dancer, living on broccoli and blueberries, Sir Ringo Starr makes his first country album in 50 years. Look Up, with producer T Bone Burnett,...

Ringo Starr will be releasing a new project on Jan. 10, 2025, and he’s got an all-star team of collaborators to make it the best it can possibly be. Here’s everything we know so far.
Ringo Starr Recruits Alison Krauss For New Album
The Beatles star and former drummer is well on his way to gifting fans with a new country album featuring Alison Krauss. Titled ‘Thankful,’ the album is said to be a second preview of ‘Look Up,’ a collaborative project with T Bone Burnett.
Like its “thankful” name, Starr hopes to inspire and spread positivity with the songs on the album. Apart from producing and co-writing nine of the 11 tracks on the album, the 84-year-old also sings on it alongside Burnett and Kraus.
He previewed the album with the debut track “Time On My Hands,” saying of the song, “I love this track. I wrote it with my producer and engineer,...

Ringo Starr is returning to country music with his new album, Look Up, produced and co-written by T Bone Burnett. It will be released in full on January 10th, 2025, but the first preview, “Time on My Hands,” is out now. Stream it below.
Featuring 11 original songs, Look Up was recorded earlier this year in Nashville and Los Angeles. It was born out of Starr’s chance encounter with Burnett at a Los Angeles event in 2022, where Starr asked Burnett to write him a song for a project he was recording at the time. Burnett returned with nine songs steeped in country, creating the foundation for the album.
For his first country album since 1970’s Beaucoups of Blues, Starr also recruited Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves) and his frequent collaborator Bruce Sugar as co-producers. Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle each make multiple appearances on Look Up, which also features Alison Krauss, Lucius,...

Ringo Starr was always the most country of the Beatles, covering Buck Owens’ “Act Naturally” and professing his love of Kitty Wells, his favorite singer. Fifty-five years since he released the twangy country solo album Beaucoups of Blues in 1970, Starr will return to the genre with Look Up, a new album arriving Jan. 10, 2025. It’s a collection of 11 songs — many of them cowritten by T Bone Burnett, who produced the album — including the breakup ballad “Time on My Hands,” out today.

Leading up to the Grammy nominations on Nov. 8, Rolling Stone is breaking down 13 different categories. For each, we’re predicting the nominees, as well as who will (and who should) win on Grammy night.
With many of Americana’s biggest recent Grammy winners (Jason Isbell, Rhiannon Giddens) absent from this year’s proceedings, the Best Americana Album nominations are anyone’s guess — especially since this year’s releases could conceivably be nominated in other categories (Folk, Rock, Country, and Alternative, among them). Hugh Prestwood, the country songwriter who penned hits for Randy Travis, Trisha Yearwood, Alison Krauss, and Jimmy Buffett, died Sunday, Sept. 22, following a stroke, according to his close friend, songwriter James Dean Hicks. Prestwood was 82.
With hits like “Ghost in This House,” “The Song Remembers When,” and “Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart,” Prestwood was known as a first-rate ballad composer whose bent toward literary flourishes made him one of the most respected and in-demand songwriters in Nashville from the late Seventies to the mid-Nineties. It’s been wild to watch the rise of William Apostol, a.k.a. Billy Strings, a bluegrass prodigy turned crossover star like fellow genre travelers Alison Krauss and Chris Stapleton — but one who’s found a home in Jambandlandia, where his super-sick flatpicking guitar virtuosity has met with big fat dancing bear-hugs. Leaning into long instrumental journeys onstage (see last year’s 38-minute single, an epic live sequence of “Meet Me at the Creek” > “Pyramid Country” > “Must Be Seven” > “Meet Me at the Creek”), Strings’ original songs have proved solid jam vehicles.

After missing several recent shows due to an undisclosed illness, Willie Nelson made his triumphant return to the stage at his annual 4th of July Picnic in Camden, New Jersey on Thursday night.
The 91-year-old country singer took the stage shortly before 10:00 p.m. local time and by all accounts sounded in fine form. Accompanied by his son Lukas Nelson and the Family Band, Willie performed more than 20 songs, including “On the Road Again,” “Always on My Mind,” “Roll Me Up,” and “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground.” Nelson also debuted “The Border,” from his newly released album of the same name. After missing half a dozen or so concerts of the Outlaw Music Fest due to unspecified illness, Willie Nelson returned to the stage for his annual Fourth of July Picnic, held outside of Philly in Camden, New Jersey, on Thursday. Updated: Willie Nelson will soon be on the road again after an extended break on doctor’s orders. Originally, on June 21, the country music legend was advised to “rest for the next four days.” That was then extended to this week, before it was announced that the Presidential Medal of Freedom winner would, appropriately, be available to rejoin the running Outlaw Tour on July 4.
Nelson, 91, has had health issues interfere with touring in recent years, but the news that the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is well enough to rejoin his compatriots is welcome news.
Previously on June 21: “We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and, per doctor’s orders, has been advised to rest for the next four days,” reads a statement posted to the legendary county singer’s socials. He was scheduled to appear as part of the Outlaw Music Festival tonight,...

After missing the first seven shows of the Outlaw Music Festival due to an unspecified illness, Willie Nelson will be returning to the concert stage July 4th in Camden, New Jersey — just across the river from Philadelphia — for his annual Fourth of July Picnic. Bob Dylan has spent the past two weeks crisscrossing the country on the Outlaw Music Festival summer tour alongside Celisse, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, and Lukas Nelson, who has been subbing in for his ailing father, Willie. Most Dylan fans have rightly been focused on his decision to jettison his Rough and Rowdy Ways set list of the past three years, bring in a series of 1950s covers songs he’s never done before, part ways with longtime pedal-steel player Donnie Herron, and reunite with gospel-era drummer Jim Keltner.

Willie Nelson has been “cleared” to return to his co-headlining Outlaw Music Festival with Bob Dylan after missing the tour’s first week of shows due to an unspecified illness.
On Friday, the country legend’s social media announced that Nelson had been “cleared by his doctors to go back on the road again. He will resume performing on the Outlaw Tour next week.”
However, “Willie will not be on this weekend’s dates” — including dates in Syracuse, Long Island and Holmdel, New Jersey — bringing Nelson’s total of missed gigs to seven shows.

This weekend marked the kickoff of the 2024 “Outlaw Music Festival Tour” (get tickets here), and though fans didn’t get to see Willie Nelson (who had to cancel his set “per doctor’s orders”), they did get to see Bob Dylan pull a wonderfully Bob Dylan move by playing an all-new set of ‘50s covers and recent deep cuts.
Dylan’s performances on Friday and Saturday night marked the first time in a few years that Dylan has made major changes to his setlist, which has mostly been populated by cuts from his 2020 album Rough and Rowdy Ways, as well as older original songs.

Dylan opened Friday’s show with a cover of Willie Dixon’s blues standard, “My Babe,” followed by renditions of Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie,” The Fleetwoods’ “Mr. Blue,” Hank Williams’ “Cold, Cold Heart,” and Sanford Clarck’s “The Fool.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have shared their rendition of “When the Levee Breaks” to mark the recent launch of the duo’s summer tour.
The track — a Memphis Minnie cover, of course, popularized by Led Zeppelin’s IV — is Plant and Krauss’ first single since the longtime collaborators released their Raise the Roof in 2021.
On the recording, Plant and Krauss are joined by guitarist Jd McPherson, drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Dennis Crouch, string player Stuart Duncan (who delivers this version’s fiddle solo), and multi-instrumentalist Viktor Krauss.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have been performing “When the Levee Breaks” together live for several years; now, in celebration of their latest tour kicking off this week (grab tickets here), the duo has shared a new recording of the song.
The new version of “When the Levee Breaks” is the first release from Plant and Krauss since their 2021 album Raise the Roof. Taking some cues from the 1971 Led Zeppelin cover of the Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy original, the duo’s new arrangement breathes fresh life into the song, with rich harmonies, a blistering fiddle part, and an acoustic, Americana feel.

Willie Nelson was forced to quite smoking marijuana a few years back due to breathing issues. However, that doesn’t mean the country legend has cut down on his cannabis consumption; he still vapes and eats edibles. He’s also picked up more than a few cannabis recipes over the years, which he and his wife Annie have now collected in a new cookbook.
Willie & Annie Nelson’s Cannabis Cookbook is set for release on November 12th via Gallery Books (pre-orders are now ongoing). Spanning 256 pages, the recipe book draws from the couple’s “favorite meals on nationwide tours, at the ranch, at home, and in their favorite cities along the way.”

There are recipes for buffalo wings, fried chicken, and chocolate cake, as well as “additional chapter providing a full suite of cannabis-infused base ingredients—cannabutter, finishing oil, simply syrups, sugars, salts, and tinctures.

American icon Willie Nelson shows no signs of slowing down, as he begins his 91st trip around the sun.
The nonagenarian has a new album called “The Border” set for a May 31 release (the title track and single “Made In Texas” are out now), and he will once again be headlining his Outlaw Music Festival tour this Summer, following sets by artists such as Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and more.
Last month he headlined the annual Luck Reunion festival on his private ranch in Luck, TX, and that performance will be broadcast on his exclusive SiriusXM channel Willie’s Roadhouse (Ch. 61) as we celebrate his birthday this week.

The Good Shepherd are delighted to announce that legendary singer/songwriter Robert Plant Cbe has become a patron of the Wolverhampton-based charity.
Robert Plant Becomes Good Shepherd Patron
The rock icon has been a long-time supporter of the work of the Good Shepherd, but has now stepped up his backing to become a patron, including supporting the creation of a new trainee scheme offering two paid trainee roles within the organisation for people with lived experience of homelessness and other issues.
These trainees have both been participants on the Good Shepherd’s Leap programme and these roles – embedded to support service users accessing the charity – form a key part of their recovery journey.
Robert has taken a keen interest in the long-standing Wolverhampton charity for many years, and invited representatives to have a presence at his concert at The Halls last December to raise awareness of their work, providing food...

Willie Nelson is bringing his annual 4th of July Picnic to Philadelphia — or, more specifically, across the bridge from Philadelphia in nearby Camden, New Jersey.
Taking place at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden on Thursday, July 4th, the all-star concert will see Willie Nelson & Family joined by Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Maren Morris, Mavis Staples, and Celisse.
A ticket pre-sale for Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic is set for Wednesday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m. Et (use code Key), with a pubic on-sale following on Friday, March 29th via Ticketmaster.
Nelson first staged his 4th of July Picnic in 1973 and has been hosting the event semi-reguarlly ever since (including two digital editions in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic). This year’s event marks the first iteration not to take place in Nelson’s native Texas since 2009.

Robert Plant has opened up about his recent struggles with songwriting, telling Rolling Stone in a recent interview that he is going through “a very difficult time” trying to write new material.
“I’ve got a group of friends that I play with over here a little bit from time to time. I’ve also been going through all that stuff that I never released and never quite got finished,” Plant said, when asked what he’s been up to since coming off the road last July. “And getting excited about it. Going, ‘Wow. What am I going to do with that?’ It’s the idioms, the visitation, the places that I’ve been musically which were not complete are just mind-boggling, and they’re a little bit overwhelming.”
He continued, “I’ve got a Tascam digital recorder, and I sing, and I put the vocals through a guitar pedal,...

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss aren’t ready to stop singing together just yet. “We’ve been doing this on and off since 2007,” says Krauss, “and it’s just gotten better every time we’ve gotten together.” So after touring for the past two years behind their second collaborative album, 2021’s Raise the Roof, they’re adding 28 tour dates this year, beginning in June. To mark what would have been David Bowie’s 77th birthday today, Wilco have shared their live rendition of the music icon’s “Space Oddity.”
The cover was recorded during the band’s visit to Mountain Stage, NPR Music, and West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s long-running live radio show and features as the opening track on an upcoming compilation highlighting performances from the series.
“As a gratefully, if not begrudgingly, Earth-bound band, it’s always an honor and a challenge to tackle any of David Bowie’s space-soaring arrangements,” Wilco said in a statement.

Monday, January 8th, would’ve been David Bowie’s 77th birthday. To mark the occasion, Wilco has shared their rendition of Bowie’s 1969 hit, “Space Oddity.”
The release hails from Wilco’s 2023 performance on Mountain Stage (a public radio show distributed by NPR Music), and will be included on an upcoming compilation announced today titled Live On Mountain Stage: Outlaws and Outliers, due on April 19th via Oh Boy Records.
Presenting a wonderfully Wilco-esque take on “Space Oddity” — itself named the 43rd best song of all time by Consequence in 2012 — the band settles into an acoustic arrangement, allowing Jeff Tweedy’s vocals to masterfully convey the tune’s enduring appeal for humanity.
Speaking about the performance in a statement, the band said: “As a gratefully, if not begrudgingly, Earth-bound band, it’s always an honor and a challenge to tackle any of David Bowie’s space-soaring arrangements. Striving to reach...

Perhaps inspired by Dave Grohl’s own recent interpretation, Robert Plant dusted off Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” for the first time in in 16 years during a charity concert in the UK on Saturday night.
Plant’s performance came as part of “An Evening With Andy Taylor And Special Guests,” a charity concert organized by former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor benefiting the Cancer Awareness Trust. (Taylor was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2018.)
The 75-year-old Led Zeppelin frontman sounded as spectacular as he ran through 1971 power ballad for the first time since the band’s one-off reunion concert in 2007. Watch the replay below.
