This short article is in the spirit of the crowded ad-mat advertising blurbs that, once upon a time, would show up in the newspaper for horror related features. The particular composite above is a fantasy, but since all films back then were for General Audiences, a stack like it is entirely credible. Here, it’s an excuse for a trio of personal Savant anecdotes, vividly remembered from fifty-odd years ago.
Not Bad! Charlie Largent assembled this convincing triple bill ad paste-up,

Don’t listen to Gen X’ers or Millennials, kids: the Real era to be an adolescent moviegoer was in the 1950s and 1960s, when downtown movie palaces had regular Saturday kiddie matinees, just as seen in the nostalgic Joe Dante movie. Theaters in most towns functioned as ad hoc babysitters, with kids dropped off in clumps. In many cases the oldest squab in...

We caught up with MTV’s hot, howling young werewolves at The London Hotel in Hollywood just one day after the spooky premiere of "Teen Wolf" Season 3B. (Or is it 4? That’s debatable – check out our exclusive video interview for the lowdown on that.)
Although it was somewhat disappointing that stars Tyler Posey (Scott) and Dylan O’Brien (Stiles) were not very representative of their #1 Google search term (“shirtless”), their lovely co-star Crystal Reed (Allison) made up for it in gorgeous Chanel couture.
The three of them sat down to chat with us – and you – about response to the premiere and what we can expect as the second half of the third season unfurls. (Off camera, Posey promised we’d see a lot more with the newly introduced character Kira [played by Arden Cho], including some Asian-horror influence and samurai sword action.)

The latest clip from Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac is by far the least Nsfw of them all. Gone are Shia Labeouf acting like a douche, Uma Thurman discussing the Whoring Bed, or any of the other sexually explicit glimpses we have seen so far. This new clip is very subtle compared to the others and deals directly with death. All we see is a character, presumably the main character, walking on a snowy day towards an apartment building as Stellan Skarsgard reads an excerpt from Edgar Allan...

Nevermore said the raven, Nevermore. Edgar Allan Poes The Raven was first published in January of 1845 and has emerged as his most often quoted works. It concerns an unnamed scholar and Lenore, the scholars lost love who first surfaced in the poem Lenore in 1843. But who was Lenore and how did she die? That is the idea played with in the forgotten little film The Spectre of Edgar Allan Poe. Opening on a tree with the words Edgar loves Leno…...

There’s no telling whether The Raven will ride the wave of popularity enjoyed – for whatever reason – by Victorian action-adventure. What is certain is that the hype campaign has been huge. Whoever the project’s publicist is, Disney should have hired them for John Carter, rather than letting it simply circle the bowl.
First it was a battery of trailers a full nine months in advance. Next came another salvo of trailers and articles.
Now the team responsible for getting The Raven flying high come premiere time has released a sit-down with John Cusack.
Nothing against Cusack, but I found the interview to be like dry toast. Yeah, it’ll fill you up and keep you going, but there’s not much flavor to it. Cusack is a smart guy getting asked bland questions, and the result scans like a post-grad seminar on the piece.

From the 19th-century French avant garde to Damien Hirst, artists have revelled in Poe's world of bohemian depravity
In Henri-Georges Clouzot's 1943 film Le Corbeau – The Raven – a small French town is torn apart by anonymous letters that claim to expose the citizens' crimes. Made during the German occupation, it is a disturbing, claustrophobic drama of secrets, lies and paranoia. It is also one in a long series of works of art that invoke the spectre of Edgar Allan Poe – right up to the new film The Raven that stars John Cusack.
In Le Corbeau, the poison-pen letter-writer signs his or her sinister missives with the title of Poe's most famous poem. A French audience in 1943 would have instantly recognised the reference to the American gothic writer because he had a immense influence on French modern art.
Poe was illustrated by no less a modern master than Edouard Manet, as...

[1] There's plenty to look forward to in spring 2012, but as we head slowly (oh, ever so slowly) toward the warmer months, two films have been pushed back to other seasons while one has landed on a different spring date. After the jump, get updates on new release dates for Relativity's The Raven and House at the End of the Street, as well as Focus Features' Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. [Update: Hit the jump for a just-released poster for The Raven] Relativity has moved James McTeigue's Edgar Allan Pie-inspired thriller The Raven from March 9 to April 27, leaving behind Disney's John Carter to compete instead with The Five-Year Engagement, Safe, and the Sundance 2011 hit Sound of My Voice. John Cusack leads The Raven as the famed writer, who gets pulled into a grisly case when a detective (Luke Evans) notices that a serial killer is modeling his brutal deeds after Poe's works. The stakes are...

The lavish lifestyles of Hollywood’s more famous actors and filmmakers may hint at a world of glamour and cash, but as this list proves, the process of actually putting a movie together is rarely a dignified process. What follows is a lengthy catalogue of ill-advised location choices, tantrums, dreadful acts of God, spiked bowls of soup, ruined studios, bruised egos, broken bones and shattered dreams.
For the prospective filmmaker, this article could be read as a cautionary tale of just how badly wrong a production can go – though in order to keep the tone relatively light, we’ve excised those film productions that ended in tragedy (you’ll have to look elsewhere to discover the sad stories behind Twilight Zone: The Movie and The Crow).

The Toronto Film Festival website has been updated with a load of new images from some of the films playing there this year and Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt is among them.
It’s an intriguing first look at a film whose panel at this year’s Comic-Con showed a director whose inspiration and vision were finding their feet once again and this film looks to make the most of the cast Coppola has attracted.
Synopsis time,
A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. When the director of The Godfather starts goth-rapping over his own vampire murder thriller, you could say things are getting weird.
Except they were already pretty weird.
“Nosferatu … Nosferatu … Eyes of blue … Me and you … Nosferatu … Nosferatu …”
This was Francis Ford Coppola, chanting in his resonant baritone before thousands of sci-fi fantasy fans at Comic-Con’s Hall H during a presentation of his self-financed horror mystery Twixt, the story of a “bargain basement Stephen King” (played by Val Kilmer) who visits a creepy small town during a book tour and finds himself encountering ghosts, a leering sheriff, and a series of revolting murders.

Today turned out to be a popular day for being angry at things, as Neil Gaiman pointed to a Star Tribune article in which a Minnesota politician singled him out for being a burden on the state and called the writer a "pencil-necked little weasel." Needless to say, many folks in the comics community disagree with that characterization (I've always found Gaiman to be a fine, gentlemanly fellow) and tweeted their support.

The post-courtroom discussion of Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane's dispute over Spawn-related character rights entered another day in the Twittersphere. Gaiman spoke up and Larsen has defended comments he's made about female jurors and the O.J. Simpson trial. He also thinks his comments have been taken out of context, though, so you may want to click on through to his account to follow the lengthy back-and-forths that have been taking place.
Further controversy in the Report today come from Brett Favre's annual retirement circus and a newly announced Justin Bieber biopic in 3-D. You'll find two comics professionals who are not fans of those respective topics and thoughts on Vladimir Putin from David Hahn below.

@andeparks So, is this latest Favre ridiculousness about him holding the Vikes up for more cash? He's not That far gone, is he?...

"Judge Dredd" is still moving forward, according to Jock's tweets today. That new "Judge Dredd" fan film that he mentioned last week got a few other creators tweeting today, including Pj Holden and Dwight MacPherson, who launched jabs at the Stallone incarnation.
Elsewhere in the comics Twittersphere over the weekend, Rob Liefeld posted a video of his sons checking out "Image United" to see how his old characters would play to a younger generation, proving both that his sons share his enthusiasm for superheroes and that they would definitely buy an Overtkill series. "FoxTrot" creator Bill Amend, meanwhile, was watching his own son play "Assassin's Creed 2." Find how how that experience has shaped his perspective on "World of Warcraft," along with what Todd McFarlane's been working on and what Tim Seeley thought of the cosplay at Daisho Con in Wisconsin. It's all in the Twitter Report for November 23, 2009.

Lena Headey and Brian Cox also star. The film premiered at Tribeca. We expect to close a number of deals at the market now that North American distribution is in place.
