Throughout the 10 extant "Saw" movies, there have been at least 94 on-screen deaths, most of them quite gruesome. A few people do manage to escape the death traps that Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) locked them into, but many of the vengeful villain's victims aren't so lucky. Audiences have witnessed human bodies being ripped apart, burned, or colorfully torn to pieces. And we all have our favorites, don't we? Ranking the traps and/or deaths in the "Saw" movies is a common practice among horror fans. /Film even ranked all of the franchise's deaths back in 2017, when there were only 81 to sift through.

Vertical Entertainment has unveiled an official trailer for an indie drama from Canada titled Stealing School, marking the feature directorial debut of Chinese-Canadian filmmaker Li Dong. A week before her college graduation, a Chinese-Canadian tech prodigy is accused of plagiarism and must fight to prove her innocence in a secret trial held before an academic tribunal. As the day progresses, the motives and interests of all parties concerned are slowly exposed to reveal a complex web of corruption, greed and moral failings. This certainly seems to be based on a true story. Celine Tsai stars as April, with a cast including Jonathan Keltz, Mpho Koaho, Darrin Baker, Michelle Monteith, Jonathan Malen, and Matthew Edison. This initially premiered at the Napa Valley Film Festival in 2019, and opens in the US in March for anyone interested.

Exclusive: Cara Gee (The Expanse) and Mpho Koaho are set to star in the forthcoming sci-fi thriller Levels written and directed by Adam Stern. Principal photography is slated to begin in 2021.

The film, which marks Stern’s feature directorial debut, explores “the nature of our existence.” After witnessing the murder of his girlfriend (Gee), Joe (Koaho) risks everything — including reality itself — to discover the truth about her death. Additional casting is underway.

Levels comes from Orbital Mechanics and Middle Child Films and will be produced by Stern and Tony Wosk of Middle Child.

We’ve got a new trailer to share with you for the upcoming crime thriller Night Hunter. The film stars Henry Cavill and Alexandria Daddario as two detectives and a vigilante played by Ben Kingsley, who are trying to unravel a series of murders committed by a serial killer and they are trying to stop the future murders that the killer has already set in motion.

I enjoy watching these kinds of thrillers and Night Hunter looks like it’s gonna be a good one that’s filled with all kinds of twists, turns and surprises.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, which starred Wood (Wilfred) as the titular crime solver’s trusty-ish sidekick, will not return for a third season, our sister site Deadline reports.

The series also starred Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful), Hannah Marks (Awkward), Jade Eshete (Shades of Blue), Fiona Dourif (When We Rise), Mpho Koaho (Falling Skies), Michael Eklund (Wynonna Earp), Dustin Milligan (90210) and Osric Chau (Supernatural).

The first season of BBC America's Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency earned pretty low ratings, but that's generally true of shows on this little cable channel. The thing is, these series often originate in UK, or are international co-productions of some sort. “How did I forget how annoying you are?” asks Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) in the trailer for BBC America’s “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.” It’s a familiar feeling for viewers reentering the world Max Landis adapted from Douglas Adams’ source material because just as with last year, this season is not content to unspool a story quietly, logically, or with any sort of restraint.

The overstuffed episode checks back in with eight returning characters (yes, we’re also counting Rowdy 3 member Vogel and the dog Rapunzel), and introduces at least eight more. Despite that surfeit of players, we have yet to even meet Alan Tudyk, who joins this year as the gun-happy Mr. Priest.

Perhaps this is because it’s wholly the creation of Max Landis, who only kept the hero and the absurdist tone from Douglas Adams’ novels on which the series is based.

In its first season, the technicolor-clad Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) adopted has-been musician Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) as his assistant to help solve a murder using “holistic” methods in which the universe randomly provides him with the answers he needs. And it’s very quick, but we’re happy to see the corgi has returned as well as Bart (Fiona Dourif) looking a little bit sooty and the newly bearded Ken (Mpho Koaho). There’s also a prince with pink hair.

As if the cast of David Raymond’s psychological thriller Nomis wasn’t enviable enough, The Hollywood Reporter brings word today of some new recruits.

With Henry Cavill (Sand Castle), Ben Kingsley and Baywatch star Alexandra Daddario already locked in, THR has confirmed that Stanley Tucci, Nathan Fillion and Minka Kelly have all climbed on board alongside fellow newcomers Brendan Fletcher and Mpho Koaho. Little is currently known about how each of their respective characters factor into the storyline, but we understand David Raymond’s genre movie centers on “an American police force that traps an online predator, only to realize the depth of his crimes goes far beyond anything anticipated.” The Zodiac Killer for a digital age? To adapt any Douglas Adams property, one must be confident, ambitious, foolhardy and willing to fail big time. Creator Max Landis is all of those things, and for all of its faults, at least his take on “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” is wholly its own spastic, frantic and technicolor beast.

Adams’ books are not necessarily sacred texts (some may disagree), but his absolute mastery of the absurd balanced with his satirical take on human nature and an overarching cosmic view is difficult to approximate, much less imitate. Even his most adapted series “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” has had its share of tepid if not cringe-worthy transitions to the screen.

With the lesser known “Dirk Gently,” more license is given because its story and the author’s observational tone are less accessible.

BBC America already has one wacky British time traveler on its schedule, but with all of time and space at your disposal, there’s surely room for one more. Enter “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” a completely bonkers series based on the novels by Douglas Adams.

Created by Max Landis, the series is a sci-fi mystery with comedic sensibility and a helluva lot of storylines. Like the 2012 TV adaptation before it, “Dirk Gently” dispenses with the book’s plot — which some have proclaimed unfilmable — in favor of an original mystery. Landis’ version also dispenses with all of the book’s characters save for the titular detective himself.

BBC America has your new favorite comedy premiering this fall. The network released the first look at “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” during their Saturday panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

Stars Elijah Wood, Samuel Barnett, Hannah Marks, Jade Eshete, along with lead writer and executive producer Max Landis and showrunner Robert Cooper, discussed the upcoming series, which is now in production.

TNT's Falling Skies is set in the aftermath of an alien attack which has left much of the world incapacitated. As survivors band together to fight back, each day is a test of survival. And according to star Noah Wyle, making the series was no day at the beach, either. Wyle tells Digital Spy he is glad the series wasn't cancelled in mid-season, so that the audience could get some "closure." That said, Wyle also confesses that making Falling Skies was a real "slog."

The slayer of Xenomorphs, summoner of Pumpkinhead, and killer of Crystal Lake are coming to Minnesota this weekend for the 10th Annual Crypticon Minneapolis. Featured guests include Michael Biehn, Lance Henriksen, Kane Hodder, and many more, along with a packed three-day schedule that aims to please attendees of "The Nightmare Before Halloween."

Officially kicking off this Friday night (following a special Thursday night screening of Harbinger Down, complete with a Lance Henricksen and Alec Gillis Q&A), Crypticon Minneapolis runs from October 23rd–25th at the Ramada Bloomington. It’s a shame that Black Or White will only be remembered as another typical January release, because writer/director Mike Binder poses some very provocative questions about America’s current racial landscape – he just never gets around to answering them. The ninth Rome Film Festival (Oct 16-25) has revealed a diverse line-up including the Italian premieres for potential awards contenders including David Fincher’s Gone Girl. the world premiere of Takashi Miike’s As the Gods Will and Burhan Qurbani’s We are Young, We are Strong and European premiere of Oren Moverman’s Time Out of Mind, Toronto hit Still Alice and Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet.

This year for the first time the award-winners in each section of the programme will be decided by the audience on the basis of votes cast after the screenings.

Each section has changed name and focus for 2014 and are all competitive, resulting in the festival’s structure being “slimmer’.

TNT renewed Falling Skies for a fifth season of 10 episodes but that will be the end of the sci-fi series. TNT president Michael Wright said in a statement, "Falling Skies has begun an ambitious and thrilling story arc this summer as it sets the stage for next year's climactic final season."
