Jeff Kalmus has over 30 years of experience in the visual effects industry and is currently working as a visual effects supervisor and artist. Before pursuing a career in visual effects Jeff worked as a freelance photographer and assistant camera operator.
Jeff began his career in the visual effects industry in 1988, working as an optical assistant at Van de Veer Photo Effects, and then spent three years at Boss Film Studios in the model shop. In 1993 he joined Digital Domain and over the next nine years worked on over 30 motion pictures, numerous commercial and special venue projects, moving from Scanning and Recording Supervisor to Imaging Supervisor. After leaving DD, he served as the Imaging Supervisor for Cinesite Hollywood and Warner Bros. Feature Animation.
In 2003 Jeff was hired as the Associate VFX Supervisor for Stan Winston Digital, working on the film Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Jeff began freelancing as a VFX Supervisor and Artist on various motion picture and theme park productions. In 2008, Jeff was hired as the visual effects supervisor and production lead at ICO VFX and supervised over 300 shots for Disney's Surrogates starring Bruce Willis. Jeff was then instrumental in the expansion of the company and its initial foray into the world of stereoscopic conversion and visual effects. He developed the stereoscopic tools and pipeline for the company and then oversaw the R&D and look development along with visual effects supervision. In the three years that Jeff worked at ICO, he supervised dozens of VFX and stereo conversion projects including: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away.
Over the past 12 years Jeff has worked as a Freelance Visual Effects Supervisor for studios including Walt Disney, Amblin and Netflix both on-set and through post production.
