Since we already pretty much knew that The Voice was heading for a Chloe Kohanski/Addison Agen showdown in next week’s finals, there was nothing to do during Monday’s performances by Season 13’s Top 8 but sit back, chillax and enjoy. With last week’s elimination of Ashland Craft and Shi’Ann Jones, the likelihood of a sonic train wreck was greatly reduced. And the remaining singers were ordinarily all, even on an off night, decent. Which of them stood out, though, solidifying for themselves a place alongside Chloe and Addison in the finals? Read on; we’ll discuss.

French rock idol Johnny Hallyday, remembered as the nation’s answer to Elvis Presley in the 1960s, has died at age 74.
The legendary singer died from lung cancer, his family confirmed.
“Johnny Hallyday has left us,” Hallyday’s wife, Laeticia, said in a statement to The Guardian. “I write these words without believing them. But yet, it’s true. My man is no longer with us. He left us tonight as he lived his whole life, with courage and dignity.”
Beginning in 1960, Hallyday was the heartbeat of Gallic rock n’ roll, becoming its best known and best-selling artist for nearly six decades.

Starting its Season 12 Knockout Rounds Monday, The Voice threw a curveball at its contestants, allowing the pairs who’d be competing with one another to keep their spots to watch each other rehearse. Mind you, I’m not sure how big a curveball that really was since they’d all certainly gotten to see what their opponent-of-the-week was up to/capable of during the Battle Rounds. And could it possibly have been any more awkward than sitting on stage and idly observing as your rival sang their ass off in hopes of sending you packing? Anyway, the twist did manage to rattle a coupla vocalists.

Bones signs off on Tuesday, after 12 seasons of crime solving, evidence examining, blood, guts and, most importantly, bones. But at the core of the long-running Fox procedural -- the “heart of the matter,” if you will -- was a partnership between forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz).
From their first episode together, Brennan and Booth’s dynamic was electric, and while the will-they-or-won’t-they of it all took nearly seven seasons to sort out (more if you count that they don’t actually tie the knot until season nine), their relationship kept fans hooked for all 245 episodes. We watched Brennan wrestle with her feelings as Booth looked for love, saw them lay it all on the line only to yank it back again, and finally, at long last, got to witness their happy ending. Two kids and countless hurdles later, they’re still going strong.

Long before he was making people laugh for a living, Fred Armisen played drums with the Blue Man Group, and also manned the kit for Trenchmouth, a Chicago punk band that released five albums in the Nineties. Armisen's love for music shines through in the new season of Documentary Now!, where he and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader parody a series of famous docs – including the classic Talking Heads concert film, Stop Making Sense. Right now, Armisen is shooting the seventh season of his other TV show, Portlandia,...

It's only fitting in a season defined by its relentless desire to challenge the faith of its characters, for the third season finale of "Orange is the New Black" to present the inmates with an actual miracle. Obviously the hole in the fence has a very good reason for being there and there is also a very good reason the inmates are able to take advantage of it, but they make the narrative feat executed by Jenji Kohan and the other writers no less miraculous. Those reasons might even make the final scene more special when you stop to consider all of the events that had to transpire to make it possible. "Trust No Bitch" begins not long after the closing moments of the previous episode and lets Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) and Big Boo (Lea DeLaria) come to terms with not fully exacting their revenge on Coates (James McMenamin). It’s been a long wait filled with fits and starts for Mariah Carey’s new album, first titled “The Art Of Letting Go,” and now, awkwardly called “Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse.” Yes, I know the background behind the title and she could have gone with “Me,” or “I Am Mariah” or “The Elusive Chanteuse,” but all three is a bit of overkill. And so it is with the album. At 14 tracks on the standard edition, Carey is determined to show us all of her tricks, between her multiple-octave range and her “I’m still really street, R&B” side (not to mention that she can still rock a crocheted bathing suit). The album succeeds in many levels, but on some songs—“Cry,” “Camouflage,” “It’s A Wrap” (a duet with Mary J. Blige on the Deluxe version), the lyrics read like journal entries that don’t...

Frank Ocean has responded to his legal issues with Chipotle by posting a check for $212,500 — the amount the fast food chain paid him for an ad campaign — to Tumblr with "F*ck off" written in the memo section. Check out the post here. In July 2013, Ocean signed on to record a song for Chipotle for $425,000, with half paid up front. The singer said, via his a letter sent to Chipotle by his legal team, that he backed out because he felt misled about the intentions of the campaign: "When Frank was asked to participate in this project, Chipotle's representatives told him that the thrust of the campaign was to promote responsible farming. There was no Chipotle reference or logo in the initial presentation, and Chipotle told Frank that was an intentional element of the campaign," the letter said. Last week, Chipotle filed a lawsuit against Ocean for not delivering the...

Remember that "Pure Imagination" cover Fiona Apple did for Chipotle? According to the company, Frank Ocean signed up to do one, too — to the tune of $212,500 up front (and another $212,500 after he was finished). When Ocean decided against it (he claimed they promised he was promoting "responsible farming," not the Chipotle brand directly, and that he would have "full approval" of the master), the restaurant chain sued him for the advance plus any legal fees. Not one to let matters lie, Frank just posted the payback check on his Tumblr with the memo: "Fuck Off" — in case it was at all unclear how he felt about the legal dispute. That's not to say Frank's done with brands altogether. Just this morning, Ocean dropped a song with Diplo, Mick Jones, and Paul Simonon that is featured on a Converse compilation album.

R&B singer Frank Ocean, producer Diplo and the Clash’s guitarist Mick Jones and bassist Paul Simonon have combined their various talents into a new track for Converse's "Three Artists, One Song" series. Listen to and download "Hero" and watch a behind the scenes video below. According to Rolling Stone, Diplo led the charge, recruiting the musicians and managing production. Diplo famously sampled the Clash’s song "Straight to Hell" for M.I.A.’s 2007 hit "Paper Planes." "For me, the Clash represented really unexpected things with a garage attitude, so that’s where I was going with 'Hero,'" Diplo said. Ocean’s first new song in two years, "Hero" gains a heavy dose of soul from his vocals, which seamlessly blend with Diplo’s dub and electronic samples and the Clash’s dirty guitar riffs. The West Los Angeles Children’s Choir adds a gospel touch. Geoff Cottrill,...

Frank Ocean, Diplo, and Half of The Clash Made an Infectious Song for Converse "Hero" is the chill new entry in the sneaker company's Three Artists, One Song series. by Liam Mathews At first, these names don't seem to go together. Frank Ocean, Diplo, and The Clash are all from different worlds. But then you remember that Diplo produced M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes," which samples The Clash's "Straight To Hell." According to Diplo, he first met guitarist Mick Jones and bassist Paul Simonon through their lawyers. But those two songs are tremendous, so why wouldn't Diplo and these former Clashmen (and current Gorillaz) collaborate? It might work. Other songs in the Three Artists One Song series have worked well. And then you remember that Diplo knows everybody and is the most omnivorous dude in music, so of [...]...

Writing and recording the perfect album is a delicate art form. The very best examples possess themes and debates that run through each and every song, giving the finished article a unified and coherent feel whilst capturing the zeitgeist and reflecting the inner states of those who were part of its recording process. With this in mind, the sequencing and track-listing of the LP is of paramount importance and no song’s position is more vital than an album’s closing track.
Of course, an incendiary and arresting opening track is required to engage the listener and set out the artist’s stall but a record’s final track should offer closure. An essential closer should strive to tie-up all of the record’s loose ends, answer the questions offered throughout its preceding songs and conclude in such a way that its listener feels enriched and satisfied as the needle pops out of the groove.

Julian Assange has joined the jury of the 21st Raindance Film Festival (Sept 25 - Oct 6), a London-based event that celebrates independent film in the UK and around the world.
The appointment is a controversial one. The Australian editor-in-chief and founder of WikiLeaks took refuge in the Ecuadorean embassy in London in June 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning about sexual assault allegations.
It is understood that he fears Sweden would extradite him to the Us, where he believes he is wanted in relation to WikiLeaks’ disclosure of a significant amount of classified Us military and diplomatic documents.

The wacky teen drama and musical mashup known as "Glee" has been a polarizing topic in the music community since it first burst onto the scene in 2009 with its bizarre plotlines and syrupy pop and rock covers. While some artists have been happy to have the show try their (jazz) hand at their material, others like the Foo Fighters and Blur have been less than impressed with its slick Broadway stylings and publicly stated that they’d never let the program touch one of their songs.
Seventies and eighties rock giants Foreigner have no such qualms. Two of their biggest hits, “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” and “Jukebox Hero,” have both received the "Glee" treatment and the band are just fine with the results. In fact, they don’t really understand what everyone else is so worked up about.

The Clash is no stranger to having its albums reissued, repackaged, and repurposed, so it's inevitable that the band is finally getting the box set treatment. Housed inside a boombox-shaped box, Sound System will compile the band's seminal albums on CD with three discs of B-sides and outtakes, a DVD, and various pieces of Clash regalia such as a poster and dog tags. The albums are remastered for the ump-teenth time, but this go-round sees band member Mick Jones taking on the job. In tandem with the Sound System box the group will also be releasing The Clash ...

The Rolling Stones have brought out a marquee guest at a number of shows on their "50 And Counting" tour, so it's no surprise that they followed appearances by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry with the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl.
Grohl joined the legendary rock outfit at their Anaheim show on Saturday, and photographer Lindsey Best was there to capture all the action. Take a look at her crystal clear, kinetic images from the evening below, but not before a brief, comedic interlude courtesy of Samantha Ronson (who, by the way, knows something about rock stars -- her dad is Foreigner's Mick Jones).

Melissa McCarthy was Saturday Night Live’s host, but Peter Drunklage stole the show. If you haven’t seen the episode, yes: that’s exactly what it sounds like. Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage showed up—gray haired and wasted—to Weekend Update to play the brother-in-law of Bobby Moynihan ’s drunk uncle. The pair watch Thrones together, and also share an affinity for scotch, xenophobic rants, and Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is.” It’s as amazing as it sounds. As host, McCarthy specialized in odd (and often ignorant) characters, most hilariously as a woman entering a ham-cooking competition

"The Voice" kicked off part one of the finale with a touching tribute to the victims of the Newtown shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. With candles lining the stage, each of the four coaches, the Top 3, host Carson Daly and some of the former "Voice" contestants from Season 3 held a sign with the name and age of one of the victims as they sang Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah."
It was a moving beginning -- reminiscent of the children's choir that sang "Silent Night" at the start of this past week's "Saturday Night Live" -- and the screen went silent before regularly scheduled programming commenced.
For the final performance night of "The Voice," each of the Top 3 -- Cassadee Pope and Terry McDermott of Team Blake and Nicholas David of Team Cee Lo -- is taking the stage three times: singing a new song, their breakout song from earlier the...

Because no matter which of the Top 6 contestants you’ve been digging for the last few months, there’s no way you can head into Tuesday night’s results-show telecast with total confidence that they’ll break on through to the other side.

I'm going to go ahead and say this, even though I know half of the TV Fanatics who read it will probably disagree with me:
I haven't enjoyed an episode of Glee like I enjoyed tonight's episode in a long, long time.
Maybe my elation is turkey and stuffing induced. Maybe my happiness is from the sweet potatoes. Somehow, however, I doubt it. "Dynamic Duets" solidifies, for me at least, what I saw two weeks ago, and that is that the focus of this show needs to be on McKinley.
I won't lie. I spent the first three minutes tonight wearing my "Wtf" face. The real-life Superhero Squad, complete with Coach Beiste as faculty adviser, was more than a little bizarre. It was downright delusional and unnecessary. And yet... as the episode progressed, I found myself overlooking the fact that the characters were actually, really wearing capes and tights and...

“Dynamic Duets” isn’t going to make anyone’s list of the most memorable episodes in Glee history, but in the spirit of the holiday, let’s just be thankful that we had something other than procedural reruns and pro football to help keep us from fully succumbing to tryptophan comas.
And hey, we got Beiste without a side of Schue, another amusing (and self-deprecating) dig at “Night of Neglect,” and a self-sufficient Finn who’s not just sitting around moping over his on-again, off-again romance with his high-school sweetheart.

Every once in a while, "Glee" gets it just right. The combination of singing and bizarre comedy in "Dynamic Duets" works beautifully to give us an episode that manages to be about plenty of issues while still making us laugh at the silliness of it all.
Because glee clubs aren't dorky enough
Sometimes I think these kids want to be picked on. Not that there's anything actually wrong with dressing up in tights and a cape while you pretend to be a superhero. That's kind of cool really.
It is not, however, terribly cool in high school. In fact, it's a good way to have the bullies target you.
But that doesn't happen in "Dynamic Duets." Maybe it would eventually, but the New Directions superheroes are too busy singing, fighting crime, standing up for lunch ladies, getting diagnosed with learning disorders and developing bulimia to notice.
More power to them!

On a recent summer afternoon, Johnny Depp walks into a luxury suite at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. Oddly, he is dressed like a pirate. A faded paisley do-rag is tied around his head. Smaller strips of cloth are braided into his hair, and he has gold caps on several teeth. His loose white T-shirt, with its blue horizontal stripes, maybe more sailor than pirate, but it's definitely in the nautical family.
We should note that Depp has not come directly from the set of his latest film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest...
