Hi! And welcome to 'Scream Queens' (Mon., 10Pm Et on VH1). On the series, ten aspiring actresses try out for a role in 'Saw 3D.' Cool! So it's basically a reality show about bad actresses trying out to be in a bad horror movie.
During the latest episode, judge and instructor John Homa tries to get contestant Rosanna to "emote," or act, or at least do anything. And it doesn't go very well.
John wants Rosanna to show "anger" as an actress. So, in a staged audition, her tries to have her to say "I hate you!" convincingly. It doesn't really work out. Rosanna seems to have trouble understanding the difference between "acting'" and "reality," and so can't manage to express rage as an actress.
"It Doesn't Have To Be True," John says. "You Just Gotta Make Me Believe It Is." Which is...

Life experience was definitely a contributing factor when Derrick Scott booked the role of Howard in the independent short film "Without Sanctuary." Scott is the second lead character to be cast through Back Stage by writer-director Robert Terry II, whose film deals with racism in an alternate United States where racial tensions have escalated over the years. Terry sums up his experience with Back Stage and the response of its actor- readers as "awesome," adding he was impressed by their professionalism.Scott submitted his headshot to the project after reading about it in casting section of the weekly print publication. "I just go buy it every week, every Thursday," says Scott, describing his ritual. "The character sounded just like me. I thought I'd be perfect for the role."The audition was a cold reading, but Terry had posted bios of the character for the actors to read before their auditions.

"I want people to take away from this movie that it doesn't matter what age you are or what sex you are, you can do anything. Anything is possible in this life," says Stella Maeve of her upcoming rock 'n' roll biopic "The Runaways." Based on the teenage all-girl band that launched Joan Jett's career in the '70s, Stella plays co-founder and drummer Sandy West—and she can relate to the rock 'n' roll lifestyle to a tee. The New York City native grew up fast; she was on her own in gritty Hell's Kitchen by the time she was 16. But acting was her passion, and Stella quickly booked some small movies, scored a break-out role on "Gossip Girl," and moved to Hollywood. Stella hasn't lost her New York edge, but she's embraced the laid-back Los Angeles lifestyle by surfing, painting, and even playing the drums. Chosen as this week's Girl2Watch,...

Confession. This Shock writer was honestly not too familiar with the first season of VH1's Scream Queens prior to walking on set for this report on a cold, brisk December morning here in Los Angeles. But as a life long devoted horror fan, I was familiar (and intrigued) with the premise of the show and was impressed with actress Tenedra Howard's first big screen appearance in the opening scene of Saw VI , an opportunity which came about as the grand prize for last season's competition. Shepherding the show into its second season are returning executive producers Joke Fincioen and Biagio Messina with judge and acting coach John Homa also returning. However, due to scheduling conflicts, director James Gunn (off shooting his new feature Super ) and Saw veteran Shawnee Smith had to...

It’s Wednesday, December 2nd (and incidentally this scribe’s birthday), when I arrive to the set of VH1 and Joke Productions’ reality series "Scream Queens 2". The show is shooting in a foreboding manse made infamous by its use in Rob Zombie’s Halloween (and across the street from the house Wes Craven made iconic in People Under the Stairs) off Western Avenue in Los Angeles, CA.
I’m greeted by co-showrunner Biagio Messina (who with his wife and producing partner, Joke Fincioen, is in the midst of the series’ twenty-four-day shoot). Scheduled to air in eight parts on VH1 next spring/summer and hosted by director Tim (2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams) Sullivan, "Scream Queens 2" will feature ten aspiring actresses vying for a role in Lionsgate’s next entry in the Saw film series, Saw VII 3D. With James Gunn moving on to other things, the question beckoned: Who would be at the helm of this season's "Scream Queens" for VH1? It didn't take long for the answer to come.
From the Press Release
“Scream Queens 2” will take a new cadre of 10 aspiring actresses and give them the chance to win a breakthrough role in “Saw 3D,” the next film in Lionsgate’s “Saw” horror franchise. The reality competition series is produced by Lionsgate and Joke Productions, Inc., and is slated to premiere in 2010.
Season One winner Tanedra Howard was featured in the coveted and iconic “opening trap” scene in “Saw VI,” playing the character “Simone.” Due to her breakout performance and significant storyline, she is also expected to appear in future Lionsgate productions, a major coup for the previously undiscovered actress.

A few weeks ago we told you that James Gunn had to jump ship from VH1's season 2 of Scream Queens because he would be filming his new film, Super. Today we have word of his replacement and another departure from the series. Hit the jump for the full story. Looks like tough as nails acting coach John Homa will be the only familiar face returning from Season 1. Director Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs, Driftwood) will be replacing Gunn and actress Shawnee Smith (Saw series) will be replaced by actress Jamie King (My Bloody Valentine, The Tripper). The series is expected to air in 2010 on VH1. Season 1 winner Tanedra Howard went from obscurity to landing a role in Saw VI, while the winner of Season 2 will be given a role...

I already stated that I think the TV show Scream Queens is one of the worst reality series ever, however, it just got a little more interesting. Jamie King (My Bloody Valentine) and Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs) will be joining acting coach John Homa for the second season. There is no one who loves Tim Sullivan more than Tim Sullivan, making him the perfect Reality TV show judge or mentor.

VH1 is renewing its horror-themed reality series "Scream Queens" for a second season, with the winner landing a role in the next "Saw" film.
"Scream Queens 2" has 10 aspiring actresses competing to win a role in "Saw 3D," the next movie in Lionsgate's horror franchise.
Season one's winner was featured in "Saw VI." The reality sequel is slated to return next year with actress Jamie King serving as host and judge along with director Tim Sullivan and acting coach John Homa.
"Real opportunities to break into feature films are rare in acting competitions and it's great to be able to deliver on that promise," said Kevin Beggs, Lionsgate's president of TV programming and production. "We've enjoyed a terrific collaboration with VH1 on 'Scream Queens,' and look forward to building on the success of the series with even more exciting challenges in Season 2."...

Tanedra Howard. Admittedly, I never tuned in to VH1's reality series Scream Queens until last night. (Chalk it up to work, disinterest and my natural loathing of reality programming.) That's when judges James Gunn, Shawnee Smith and John Homa declared the winner of the competition who spent the season vying for the Scream Queen crown and a part in Saw VI . After tears, overcoming fears, a trip to Lionsgate's screening room, a meeting with the studio's Jason Constantine and Twisted Pictures' Mark Burg, and acting in a recreation of a scene from Saw III , the aforementioned Ms. Howard won the hearts of the show's critics and producers. Now she's poised to appear in the sixth Jigsaw flick. The question is: Will Howard have a role to chew on? Or will she be relegated...

VH1, the reigning king of reality TV, is gearing up to launch its newest unscripted monster, Scream Queens. Premiering Monday, October 20 at 10 p.m., the series spotlights 10 unknown actresses who will cry, fight and seduce their way through challenges to prove they have the right stuff to be an iconic horror babe, all while shredding their vocal cords doing it.
Reality television and horror aren’t quite the strange bedfellows they might initially seem. Initially created with the (questionably) best intentions, offering potentially meaningful observations of human behavior, non-fiction TV has disintegrated into absurd, obviously manipulated showcases for wannabe actors and has-been stars performing badly—and VH1 has risen to the top of this dubious food chain with such extravagantly trashy shows as The Surreal Life, Flavor Of Love and Rock Of Love. And while our favorite genre can produce worthy, extremely high-quality films, it has also spawned pure, exploitative—and fun—schlock.

I am not totally certain what reality shows have to do with channels that were once dedicated to music, but VH1 isn't about to let logic get in the way.

Writer-director-producer James Gunn, actress Shawnee Smith and acting coach John Homa have been tapped to serve as judges on VH1's new reality competition series "Scream Queens."
All three will have dual roles on the Lionsgate-produced show, which will give 10 unknown actresses a shot at winning a "major role" in a Lionsgate horror movie.
Smith also will serve as host, while Gunn will direct the contestants' performances. Homa will serve as acting coach to the contestants in the eight-episode series, slated to debut in the fall.
