Jessica Hester Hsuan was born on 18 August 1970 in Hong Kong. She was raised and educated in her birth place Hong Kong until at the age of 13, when she moved to the UK with her brother. She stayed in the UK till she obtained the degree in material engineering from the Imperial College London.
Though acting had never been her plan, she incidentally performed in a drama performance called "Fung Yu" together with her friends from the Chinese Society in London. The show turned out to be a great success. The team then brought it back to Hong Kong and had it re-run in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. The public appearance from the drama performance soon brought her to further appearances in commercial advertisements. This was where her career in the showbiz begins.
Jessica then joined the Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) in 1993. After being hosts of entertainment shows in TVB for a year, she started appearing in drama series and soon took up leading roles in top-rated drama series. Among the 40+ drama series she participated in, she was most notable for the role as lawyer Rachel in The File of Justice I (2004) series, psychiatrist Quin in Detective Investigation Files IV (1999), Wu Ting Fong in A Step Into the Past (2001). Her performance brought her a decent amount of awards, including the TVB Award for Outstanding Lead Actress, Award for Most Favourite Actress, etc. Since 2012, Jessica shifted her base to Asian countries outside Hong Kong after her contract with the TVB ended. She also performed in the award-winning movie The Kid from the Big Apple (2016).
Not having appeared in Hong Kong drama shows for 4 years, Jessica returned to the TVB in 2017 like a storm. The Unfair Lady (2017), with her as the leading actress, broke the TVB's rating record in the recent years. Since 2018, she has been active in the film industry. In 2019, she as the first Asian actress portrays the Marvel character Leslie Lam in the Hong Kong Disneyland attraction "Ant-man and the Wasp: Nano Battle!".
Behind the camera, Jessica is a huge dog carer. She is one of the ambassadors of the Society for Abandoned Animals Limited promoting the adoption of pets. She has adopted over 10 dogs and cats, and in particular committed to provide a "shelter" to the ill ones.
