X-Men ’97 has been a huge success, and Marvel Animations has really engrossed fans with nostalgia in the show. There are several epic moments that are vividly astonishing and that run through several episodes. The continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series, the show brings almost all the original cast complementing the epic nostalgic vibe, it was certainly a treat for fans.

The Marvel series for Disney+ also has some cool easter eggs that involve Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen, who previously played different versions of Magneto, aka Erik Lehnsherr in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise. X-Men ’97 could secure most of the original cast from X-Men: The Animated Series, who returned to the show with great enthusiasm to essay the roles that they took over two decades ago. However, given that some actors had passed away in the time between the two shows, a slew of parts, including that of Magneto, had to be recast for the sequel series.

X-Men ’97 voice actor felt pretty sure that Thanos, the supervillain in the MCU, wouldn’t have stood a chance against X-Men’s Magneto. The powerful mutant has the ability to generate and control magnetic fields. Matthew Waterson, who voices the character in the Disney+ show, believes that Magneto could have easily taken control of Thanos’s Infinity Gauntlet and ended things relatively quickly.

Since "X-Men '97" is a revival of "X-Men: The Animated Series," the creators of the nostalgic continuation of the Marvel mutants' story made sure to bring back as many of the original voice actors as they could. Sadly, both Norm Spencer (Cyclops) and David Hemblen (Magneto) passed away in 2020, making them unable to return, but Ray Chase and Matthew Waterson are doing fantastic jobs filling in their respective shoes. Meanwhile, Jennifer Hale replaces Catherine Disher as Jean Grey, Chris Potter switched from Gambit to Cable for "X-Men '97," with A.J. LoCascio taking over as the Ragin' Cajun, and Morph is now voiced J.P. Karliak. 

But there was one voice actor from "X-Men: The Animated Series" who purposely opted not to reprise their role in order to allow someone else the opportunity that otherwise...

Kids from the '90s kids rejoice! The X-Men are back, specifically the version from the animated series. Though it's been decades since "X-Men: The Animated Series" went off the air, the new show treats it as if no time has passed.

Despite the controversial last-minute firing of the show's creator, "X-Men '97" is exactly what you'd want it to be. In his review for /Film, Witney Seibold wrote "Just like classic rock, "X-Men '97" is familiar and comforting." Indeed, this is a rare revival that truly feels like a proper continuation of the original. Sure, the animation is a big upgrade and the action scenes are spectacular, but a lot of effort was put into making the new episodes feel like they belong to the same show as the '90s episodes.

But as someone who grew up watching the Latin American Spanish dub of "X-Men: The Animated Series...

The '90s gave us some of the best kids' show theme songs of all time, from "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" to "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." But even those classic examples couldn't quite match the sheer ear-wormery of the opening titles to "X-Men: The Animated Series." The beloved Fox Kids show didn't even need lyrics to embed itself in the collective cortex of a generation, who can surely recall its dynamic, synthesized tones in a split second.

Now, Disney has decided to tap into that reservoir of nostalgia with "X-Men '97," an animated streaming show that apes the original's distinctive visual style and picks up where its 1997 series finale left off. Everything we've seen in the lead-up to its release points to a faithful revival, with the easter egg-filled "X-Men '97" trailer promising a show that not only feels aesthetically akin to the original but brings back plenty of the Og voice actors.

"X-Men '97" is bringing the marvelous mutant heroes back to the small screen like they never left it, picking up right after the original series finale, "Graduation Day." Since that aired, the show's '90s setting has gone from contemporary to period piece.

The long-awaited trailer for "X-Men '97" debuted on February 15, 2024, and there's plenty to discuss even with less than 2 minutes of footage. For one, we've now finally seen the series' animation style, which brings modern shading and three-dimensionality to the original's classic cartoon look.
