Alison Brie received quite the surprise on her first day filming The Disaster Artist — a naked director.
Making matters even more bizarre: Her director was James Franco, her brother-in-law who also stars in the film. On that particular day he happened to be filming (and directing) a nude scene.
“I was there for a fitting and James was totally nude filming a scene,” Brie recalls with a laugh to People TV. “ this long black wig, crazy facial prosthetics and a sock on his penis. I was like, ‘Ok this is going to be an interesting project.'”

Tommy Wiseau came to Hollywood with dreams of movie stardom and ended up creating a cult classic phenomenon later deemed “the Citizen Kane of bad movies” with 2003’s The Room. He’s now the subject of James Franco’s latest movie, The Disaster Artist.
Wiseau spent $6 million of his own money on The Room, blowing most of it on follies like buying film equipment instead of renting and insisting on shooting both digitally and on film. With his unintelligible script, zany acting techniques and inscrutable accent, everyone involved in the production was certain it would fail.

James Franco likes to make films, lots and lots of films.
The writer/actor/director had 18 films and TV shows in production or scheduled for release just this year — it’s taken George Clooney 10 years to make that many. However, many of Franco’s projects are indie pics that either get limited releases or sit on shelves waiting for distribution.
But he’s too good an actor and too interesting a director to have his work relegated to Hollywood’s bargain bin. Franco was looking for a breakout hit, and the delicious irony is that he’s directed the best movie of his career about the worst movie ever made.

Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and here is what we’re most excited about this week:
Why We’re Obsessed With ‘The Wine Show’
Pour another glass because our favorite import -- Matthew Goode -- is back with a second season of The Wine Show, Sky Vision’s food and travel magazine series, which moves the action from Italy to the South of France. Available on in the U.S. on Hulu, the show became a favorite among viewers thanks to the bromance between Goode and co-host Matthew Rhys and their journey through the heart of Italy in search of tasty wine and lasting memories. Joining Goode (who also stars on The Crown season two) is James Purefoy, an equally English and handsome actor, who steps in for Rhys. For much of the 2017 Gotham Independent Spirit Awards ceremony, it seemed like nothing could topple “Get Out.” Then came “Call Me By Your Name,” which landed Best Feature after “Get Out” triumphed in three major categories, proving that not only are both movies serious contenders for the best movies of the year, but we also have an unpredictable awards race.
That said: Anyone who uses the Gothams as a crystal ball for predicting the Oscar race is looking in the wrong place. Hosted by Ifp, the swanky New York shindig celebrates movies and television made with an “economy of means,” with a series of small committees to select the nominees and winners for each category. That’s a world away from the Oscar voting process, which involves thousands of members, multiple branches, and no limits on budgets.

With Justice League having finally arrived in cinemas, it’s only understandable that the folks at DC Entertainment experience team-up fever. Sure, they may publish an ongoing comic of the same title featuring that very squad of superheroes, but that doesn’t mean they can’t pare it down in other books by more intimately exploring the relationships between certain characters.
A few weeks back, we heard a rumor that the Dark Knight and Amazon Warrior would be co-headlining a new six-issue series soon enough, which has now been confirmed to be Brave and the Bold: Batman and Wonder Woman. As you may recall, the “Brave and the Bold” brand carries some considerable weight. When it came time to build a third standalone “Thor” feature, Marvel brass had a few different elements that they felt were necessary for inclusion, all the better to bolster the superhero’s solo power after the relative disappointment of “Thor: The Dark World.” Mostly, there needed to be more humor, the kind that could capitalize on star Chris Hemsworth’s growing acclaim as a comedian, but not feel out of place in the McU as a whole. And perhaps the big guy needed a buddy, too, a fellow superhero also capable of teasing out both humor and pathos.
As Marvel president Kevin Feige explains, the franchise found an unlikely connection between those aims and a favorite piece of comic book lore. First up, though, “Thor: Ragnarok” needed to be its own thing, and get away from a predecessor that didn’t quite tap into what makes the Asgardian god...

No matter your age, anyone who has delved into comic book collecting has no doubt heard the name of Jack “The King” Kirby. Aside from having worked on Marvel properties such as Captain America, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers in their earliest of days, the legendary writer/artist also made some valuable contributions to DC by creating Darkseid and the New Gods. Fortunately for us, another one of his brainchildren most beloved by readers was recently revived in the form of The Kamandi Challenge.
For those unfamiliar, Kamandi, “The Last Boy on Earth,” pretty much functioned as DC’s answer to Planet of the Apes when it originally arrived on the scene decades ago. But instead of having only talking apes ruling the Earth, other animals evolved physically and intellectually as well, most notably tigers. I love the Abraham theory. I think it's super smart. {The crossover has} been in the works for a little while. To be really honest, I'm so deep into The Walking Dead, I haven't read any of the outlines for Fear yet. That'll probably have to wait until I'm out from underneath all this stuff.
Ok, so he didn't confirm or deny it. As a matter of fact, based on this chat with him, it seems they may not even have decided themselves who may be crossing over. Some careful planning?...

Stars: Kyle Mooney, Mark Hamill, Jane Adams, Greg Kinnear, Matt Walsh, Michaela Watkins, Ryan Simpkins, Alexa Demie, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Claire Danes, Chance Crimin, Beck Bennett, Andy Samberg | Written by Kevin Costello, Kyle Mooney | Directed by Dave McCary
Saturday Night Live alumnus Dave McCary makes his directorial debut with Brigsby Bear, an engaging and smartly judged indie comedy-drama that mixes elements from several different movies but still manages to feel entirely original.
SNL’s Kyle Mooney (who co-wrote the script with Kevin Costello) plays twenty-five year-old James, who grows up in an underground desert bunker with his “parents” Ted (Mark Hamil) and April (Jane Adams). Kyle’s only entertainment is Brigsby Bear, a children’s fantasy TV show about a talking bear who protects the universe and dispenses weekly life lessons like “curiosity is an unnatural emotion” and “trust only the family unit”.

Last October, The Walking Dead's seventh season debuted with one of the most-watched episodes of the entire series. Long-time fans – and even a handful of haters – tuned in to see the resolution to the "Who did Negan bludgeon?" cliffhanger, in one of those rare 21st century TV moments shared by over 15 million people at once.
After the premiere, however, the show's usually noisy buzz quieted down to something like a faint hum – which grew even softer as the winter's batch of episodes gave way to spring's bounty. That's too bad: Yes,...

Maybe you’ve heard a thing or two about sexual harassment in the news this week. (I don’t know, just a wild guess.) NBC’s Great News has some great timing, then, because Thursday’s episode tackled the thorny topic head-on… and managed to squeeze a few laughs out of it.

When Crazy Ex-Girlfriend returns for season three on Friday, there will be a lot more revenge -- but also a whole lot more Scott Michael Foster.
The 32-year-old actor was bumped up to a series regular this season, which means we'll be seeing more of what makes his character, Nathaniel Plimpton III, tick and even unravel. In the season premiere, we see a softer side right out of the gate, as Nathaniel finds excuses to see more of Rebecca Bunch, who is laser-focused not on her boss, but on getting revenge against Josh Chan, who left her at the altar in last season's finale. Nathaniel's icy exterior and narcissistic tendencies aren't disappearing entirely, his life will just be getting more complicated -- and set to music.
Et spoke with Foster as filming began on season three, and he was excited about Nathaniel becoming a bigger part of the drama.

Picking the best songs from “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” is like going to an all-you-can-eat buffet catered by a Michelin-star chef. Maybe some picks aren’t going to line up for your appetite, others might be too close to what you usually enjoy, and the best choices make you realize the things you never knew you liked before.
So as the series gears up for a third season in the greater reaches of West Covina, we thought it was time not to rank every song worst to best, but to pick out the musical apex for each character on the show. The bold, the silly, the poignant, all wrapped up in the best that each “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” character has to offer.

Here’s one way to make us hate a character: Have them kill a dog. It’s how we meet malevolent political monsters like House Of Cards’ Frank Underwood and The Dead Zone’s Greg Stillson (in the book, at least); it’s how we know Alfie Allen’s rich brat villain has gone too far in John Wick; and it’s how we realize the…

Most things get significantly better when you add Tina Fey to them. (See: Weekend Update; the Golden Globes; American Express ads.) So it makes sense that adding the 30 Rock alum to the Season 2 cast of NBC’s Great News — where Fey’s also an executive producer, by the way — takes an already-fun sitcom and elevates it about a bazillion notches.
After Katie and Greg have an awkward elevator run-in following their almost-kiss in the finale, Greg announces to the Breakdown staff that in light of last season’s hacking scandal, they’ll soon be getting a new network president. Chuck...

As a zany workplace comedy focused on the production of a live TV show, “Great News” has always been just a few degrees removed from “30 Rock.” Creator Tracy Wigfield came up the ranks through Tina Fey’s classic NBC sitcom, so it’s only fitting that her Fey-produced debut features a few similarities to a show Wigfield produced, wrote, and even cameo-d in. (She also co-stars in “Great News,” as Beth, the rather intense meteorologist).
After a critically approved but less-than-buzzy first season, Wigfield & Co. are leaning into the likeness: Tina Fey has joined the ensemble cast for seven episodes; series lead Katie Wendelson (Briga Heelan) is shifting into a mentor-mentee relationship with her new boss (played by Fey); the show is re-focusing on sharper topical storylines, and Chris Parnell, a “30 Rock” favorite as Dr. Leo Spaceman, even drops by for a guest spot in Episode 2.

It all started on the set of a show set in 1901, and it’s all ending at a time when the 1980s have never been more popular.
“I recall us standing on the set early in Season 1 of ‘The Knick,’ and one of these stories somehow came up again,” Steven Soderbergh said, referencing how his first assistant director, Gregory Jacobs, would share memories about growing up as a tennis pro in New Jersey. “I said, ‘Dude, this is a series. Back when Thor: Ragnarok was still an embryonic pitch fastened to one of many whiteboards populating Marvel Studios, writer-director Taika Waititi described his spectacular threequel as a buddy-cop movie involving Hulk and the God of Thunder, two Phase One Avengers that haven’t been glimpsed on screen since Age of Ultron – end-credits scenes notwithstanding.
That all changes in November thanks to the release of Ragnarok. Now ruling over Asgard and its gilded corridors of power, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has finally achieved his twisted dream: to usurp the throne once occupied by Odin. But as we learned last week, it is Loki’s callous ways that leave the door open for the invading Hela, and judging by those magnificent trailers, Cate Blanchett’s Goddess of Death will bring Asgard to its knees in two months’ time.

Much digital ink has been spilled over Thor: Ragnarok and its ties to Planet Hulk.
How has Greg Pak’s beloved comic influenced the story, if at all? Does Ragnarok feature any particular character plucked from the arc? And will Bruce Banner’s time on Sakaar lay the foundations for a Hulk solo movie? Granted, it appears the answer to that question is a straight up ‘no’, but those hoping to see a whole new side of the Jade Giant are in luck.
Due to light up theaters on November 3rd, Taika Waititi’s spacefaring romp was recently named as the most-anticipated movie of the fall season – ahead of Justice League, no less – and at least according to Mark Ruffalo, it’ll present the Hulk to us like we’ve never seen him before.

“We Tapped That Ass” was one of two songs that “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” submitted for the Emmys, and in the end, was the one that won the nomination. Although series creator, star, and lyricist Rachel Bloom was thrilled for the nomination, her first thought was, “Oh shit. We’re not going to win this. That’s not likely.”
Sadly, “We Tapped That Ass” did not end up winning this year — the honors went to Common’s “Letter to the Free” for Ava DuVernay’s “13th” instead — but the song is in good company among other raunchy comedy tunes that have been recognized by the Academy. Before the 1990s, the trend for Emmy-winning songs tended to be pretty standard theme songs, concert performances or variety tunes. “The Simpsons” started opening the door to more comedic fare in the 1990s, earning multiple nods and even winning two, but it was a 2007 earworm on...

Steve Miller has led many musical lives. First he was the guitar-wielding Space Cowboy who blew minds with the blues in the psychedelic San Fransisco of the late ’60s. Then he morphed into the laid-back Joker, crackin’ wise amid the slightly more self-serious singer/songwriters of the early ’70s. He graduated to full scale arena rocker in the middle of the decade with amped-up hits like “Rock ‘N Me” and “Take the Money and Run,” and by the ’80s songs like “Abracadabra” made him a video star on a nascent MTV. Now the icon is looking back on his remarkable musical journey with Ultimate Hits,...

As we head rapidly toward the end of Phase Three of the McU, we face the prospect of the giant franchise delivering the third installment of a beloved, core character’s trilogy. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has been a staple of the film series since he debuted in Phase One, in 2011, under the direction of Kenneth Branagh. After teaming with the Avengers in their first movie in 2012, he then returned in Phase Two in Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World, followed by Avengers: Age Of Ultron. However, the God of Thunder was noticeably absent from Captain America: Civil War, despite almost every other McU hero being involved in the superhero extravaganza.
As it turns out, there’s actually a very good reason for Thor not being part of Cap’s trilogy closer, and that’s because he was off on an important mission. According to /Film, who recently visited the set of Ragnarok,...

For the first time in the McU’s short, yet decorated history, 2017 brought about the release of three big-name films in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok. The latter Marvel tentpole is yet to hit theaters, but with only three months to go until the God of Thunder is back on our screens, today brings forth a brand new IMAX poster designed to showcase the threequel’s impressive A-list cast.
Front and center is Chris Hemsworth as the titular Asgardian, who will be sporting a cropped new hairstyle while trying to fend off Ragnarok. To do so, he’ll have to fight his way back through the Seven Realms, beginning with a Herculean brawl against Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk – much to the delight of Jeff Goldblum’s all-wise Grandmaster, who’s tucked away at the bottom of this poster alongside the returning Odin (played by...

If recent Thor: Ragnarok posters came under fire for allegedly ripping off Batman V Superman, then Marvel’s new slate of character posters has arrived to remind us of two very important things: Taika Waititi’s blockbuster threequel is undoubtedly one of the most stylish McU movies to date, and the Ragnarok casting department ought to be commended for assembling such a diverse group of A-listers.
Embedded below, there are eight one-sheets in total, and each one is as stylish as the next. From Thor to Valkyrie to Hela, Cate Blanchett’s unruly Goddess of Death, Thor: Ragnarok‘s principal characters are each given their time in the limelight (or should that be neon-colored smoke?) in anticipation of November 3rd. That’s little under two months away and sure enough, tickets for Marvel’s third and final film of 2017 are now on sale.
