Maurice Benard earned his eighth Best Actor nomination at the Daytime Emmys this year for his role as Sonny Corinthos on “General Hospital.” That ties him with Eric Braeden (“The Young and the Restless”) and Larry Bryggman (“As the World Turns”) as the third most nominated actor in the history of the category. Now he’s the front-runner to win according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. If we’re right he would join another exclusive club as one of the few soap stars who have won the category three or more times.
SEEFinola Hughes could be the first ‘General Hospital’ star to win Best Actress twice at the Daytime Emmys
To date only four actors have claimed that many Best Actor trophies. Benard’s former “Gh” co-star Anthony Geary is far and away the record holder with eight victories, more than any soap actor or actress has won in any categories.

Meryl Streep extended her Oscar nominations record this year with her 21st bid — Best Actress for “The Post” — though she has only won three times. That’s eerily similar to a Daytime Emmys record that could be extended this year as well: “The Young and the Restless” star Peter Bergman could be nominated for Best Actor for the 21st time, but he too only has three trophies to show for it. Could he add to his totals this year?
Even if he stopped at 20 nominations Bergman might never be caught. The closest to his total are “All My Children” actor David Canary and “General Hospital” star Anthony Geary with 16 apiece, but Canary died in 2015 and Geary retired from “Gh” that same year. No one else in Daytime Emmy history even has 10 Best Actor nominations; Eric Braeden (“Y&R”) and Larry Bryggman (“As the World Turns”) are next in line with eight apiece.

Scott Clifton (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) surprised us in 2017 by winning Best Actor at the Daytime Emmys for his role as Liam Spencer. He ranked last in our racetrack odds and was an uncharacteristically young winner at age 32. He also made history as the first man to win the Emmy trifecta of younger, supporting and lead categories. So now that he’s already made history, can he do it again? The television academy loves repeat winners, and when they like you they really like you. Of the nine actors who have won Best Actor multiple times, six of them won back-to-back. Clifton would be lucky number-seven.
The six back-to-back champs are a who’s who of soap opera history: Macdonald Carey (“Days of Our Lives,” 1974-1975), Douglass Watson (“Another World,” 1980-1981), David Canary (“All My Children,” 1988-1989), Peter Bergman (“The Young and the Restless,” 1991-1992), Anthony Geary (“General Hospital,...

Harvey Studio 54, NY
Anyone of the mindset that Harvey is a creaky, old piece of theater that should be happily left behind in a bygone era when caricatures and stiff, unnatural dialog ruled the American boards need go no further than the current revival at Studio 54 to find irrefutable proof for this argument. Given a push into the theatrical grave that it didn't need by some dreadful directing, this piece was dead on arrival despite the concerted efforts of some good actors.
Written in a time when publicly addressing the issue of alcoholism, even in a comical manner, was edgy, Harvey has long since outlived any daring it may have once danced around and is left primarily with the character of Elwood P. Dowd. Elwood is a character that is most commonly associated with Jimmy Stewart's portrayal in the 1950 film version, making for a tough act to follow, but...

Margaret Colin may be familiar to you from shows like Gossip Girl, Chicago Hope and the canceled-to-soon Now and Again but her TV and film resume are no match for her 25 year stage career. Works by Tennessee Williams (Sweet Bird of Youth), Shakespeare (Hamlet) and Broadway shows, A Day in the Life of Joe Egg and Jackie (where she portrayed Jacqueline Kennedy in her Broadway debut) are just a sampling in her long career.
She’s currently starring as ‘Lady Croom’ in the Broadway revival of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia. Directed by David Leveaux and also starring Billy Crudup and Raul Esparza, the show shifts in time from 1809 to the present day and features original events as they occurred in the past, and a reconstructed account that is painstakingly pieced together by modern-day historians.

Kimberlin Brown still enjoys acting (and golf)
"I’m really loving South Africa. The people are great. It’s going to be really sad leaving to go back to Los Angeles (today),” said Brown who was appearing at the Gary Player Invitational golf tournament. "I still enjoy acting but I’m also very involved in American Airlines Celebrity, which supports the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Susan G Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer."
Jeff Branson's I Spit On Your Grave coming to Blu-Ray on February 8
Branson stars in this graphic, shocking and undeniably disturbing new take on one of the most controversial films of all time.
Larry Bryggman starring in "The Collection & A Kind of Alaska: Two Plays by Harold Pinter"
Previews began on November 3 (tonight is opening night) and the show runs through December 19.

After 54 years on the air and 13,858 episodes, As the World Turns has ended.
The last installment aired this afternoon and was filled with closure. Doctor Bob Hughes (Don Hastings) retired from the hospital , Barbara (Colleen Zenk) dissolved her partnership with Paul (Roger Howarth), Casey (Billy Magnussen) left for law school, Chris (Daniel Cosgrove) proposed to Katie (Terri Colombino), Lucinda (Elizabeth Hubbard) and John (Larry Bryggman) got back together, and Janet (Julie Pinson) asked Jack (Michael Park) to be Lorenzo’s godfather.
It seemed like everyone's storyline was wrapped up in some way, except for Luke (Van Hansis). As fans are well aware, he lost Reid (Eric Sheffer Stevens) last week and yesterday, said goodbye to Noah (Jake Silbermann). The closest he got was to be able to use Reid's stethoscope to listen to Reid's heart, now pumping in Chris' body.

It's bad enough we have to say goodbye to As the World Turns next month, but the thought of not having Elizabeth Hubbard on TV is just too much to bear! A member of daytime royalty and a two-time Emmy winner, Hubbard plays Oakdale megamogul Lucinda Walsh with a fresh, freewheeling inventiveness that always makes her scenes unpredictable and a little bit dangerous. Hubbard demands that we watch her every move with rapt attention — even after 26 years in the part — and that means she doesn't always obey the producers and stick to the script. TV Guide Magazine spoke with the ballsy, irrepressible Hubbard about all things Atwt — the cancellation, her upcoming reunion with Larry Bryggman (Dr. John Dixon) and what it's like to drive her bosses batty...

Last December, CBS announced that yet another venerable soap opera had been cancelled. After 54 years on the air, As the World Turns was winding down. As a treat for fans, the producers have been inviting some familiar faces from years gone by to return, like Julianne Moore, Larry Bryggman, Jennifer Landon, Jesse Soffer, Cady McClain, and Mary Beth Evans.
There was talk about the daytime drama possibly continuing elsewhere but it seems that won't be happening. Yesterday, the cast and crew of As the World Turns taped their 13,858th and last episode in Brooklyn.
In a statement to EW, Brian T. Cahill, senior VP and managing director of TeleNext Media Inc., said, "Last December, when CBS informed us that they were canceling As the World Turns, we immediately launched a far-reaching search to find a new outlet for the show."...
