Jean-Stéphane Bron graduated from the School of Fine and Applied Arts
of Lausanne (ECAL). After
Connu de nos services (1997)
and
The Way I Look at You - Five Stories of Driving School (1999),
nominated for the European Film Award and having won at numerous international festivals, in 2003 he directed
Mais im Bundeshuus: le génie helvétique (2003),
among the biggest Swiss box office successes. His 2006 debut fiction film,
Mon frère se marie (2006),
would later be optioned by Hollywood for an unlikely remake. In 2010,
Cleveland Versus Wall Street (2010),
a film that recreates a fictional trial between evicted Clevelanders and bankers blamed for the financial crisis of 2007-2010, was presented at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Directors' Fortnight. Having been nominated for a César for Best Documentary, in 2011 he went on to win the Swiss Film Award for the second time.
In 2013,
L'expérience Blocher (2013),
his portrait of the nationalist-populist leader Christoph Blocher, sparked a sizable controversy.
