Sophie Becher is an award-winning designer for film, television and commercials.
Having started her career as a Sculptor and Theatre designer, Sophie worked her way up through the ranks of the art department to design her first production, THE BORROWERS 1 and 2, for Working Title Television and the BBC, directed by John Henderson, for which she won an RTS Award and two BAFTA nominations for Best Production Design.
Recent credits include: Matthew Heineman's A PRIVATE WAR; Woody Harrelson's LOST IN LONDON, a live event film shot in one take and broadcast simultaneously nationwide to audiences in the United States and the UK; Imagine,FOX and National Geographic MARS Series 1 and 2, a groundbreaking new series regarding how we will live on Mars, for which Sophie's sets were widely praised and publicized; David Schwimmer's RUN FAT BOY RUN, Charles Shyers ALFIE for which Sophie created huge sets replicating New York in Manchester and London. Michael Radford's FLAWLESS, starring Michael Caine and Demi Moore. Tanya Wexler's HYSTERIA, Paul Andrew Williams SONG FOR MARION, starring Gemma Arterton, Terence Stamp and Vanessa Redgrave, and the BBC's highly acclaimed AND THEN THERE WERE NONE.
Alongside Sophie's drama credits she has worked on some very high profile commercial campaigns such as, Kathryn Bigalows' Schwepps campaign; Fredrik Bonds' Heineken spots; Nagi Nodas Coca Cola Campaign 'What goes Round' and Chris Cunningham's Gucci spot. Sophie loves the technical and design challenges that commercials can offer and working with an eclectic mixture of directors such as Chris Cunningham, Johnny Hardstaff, Neil Gorringe, Gary Freedman, Jordan Scott, Christian Larson, Chris Palmer, Luke Scott, and Kathryn Bigelow has enabled her to hone her craft and win numerous awards including a Women in film award for best technical achievement .
