Dorsay Alavi is a critically acclaimed, award-winning writer, producer and director of motion pictures, television and documentaries. She is the Co-Founder of BLAST MOTION PICTURES, a film and television production company that specializes in long and short form content. Alavi is also the founder of THE BRAVE WORLD FOUNDATION, an arts and culture organization that funds and produces projects with diverse perspectives on social, historical, political and spiritual issues that aim to inspire future generations.
Dorsay Alavi was born in Tehran, Iran and immigrated to the United States at the age of 2. Movies and television were her first teachers of the English language. Her passion for cinema began as early as the age of 6 and her unwavering love for motion pictures led to her pursuit of a filmmaking career. After graduating from UCSD film school, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a directing career and where she met her mentor David Lynch who offered to Executive Produce her first screenplay. Her career began as a music video and commercial director and later as a screenwriter/director and producer of feature films, television and documentaries.
Her epic docu-series on a Jazz Legend entitled Wayne Shorter: Zero Gravity made its world premiere on Amazon Prime in August of 2023. The series was executive produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B. Film critic John Anderson from the Wall Street Journal names Wayne Shorter: Zero Gravity "the best thing on television in 2023". The series was named in the top 10 best music documentaries by many critics and worldwide publications. Wayne Shorter: Zero Gravity was given the Prix Du Patrimoine in Paris, France for Best Film. It was voted by 60 European journalists and presented by the prestigious L'Academie Du Jazz.
Alavi is in development on a Sci-fi/ Eco-fiction television series, "The Ravens" and two documentaries.
