Linda Lavin, best known for playing the title role in Alice, died Dec. 29 at the age of 87 following a battle with lung cancer. Based on Martin Scorsese‘s 1974 film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, the CBS sitcom ran for nine seasons from 1976 to 1985. Lavin was nominated for an Emmy in 1979 and earned two Golden Globes for her role as the working single mother who makes ends meet as a waitress at a diner in Arizona.

Jason Segel recently recalled the audition process for the Paul Feig-created NBC teen dramedy, which ran from 1999 to 2000 with EP Judd Apatow, featuring himself as aimless drummer Nick Andopolis, the eventual boyfriend of Linda Cardellini‘s overachiever Lindsay Weir.

“I was brought in for a callback with James Franco, and we were, as far as we knew, competing for the same part, because at the time, there was only one of those characters,” he told GQ. “Daniel and Nick were just one character at the time. So we went in and we auditioned against each other. They liked us both, and they split the part, and he became the cool one, and I became the goofy one.”

Segel added, “I always felt like Nick was a lot like me.

Giving people even more to talk about, the trailer for episode 4 dropped earlier today, with cameos from Superman and Wonder Woman.

What is even more interesting, however, are the rumors about even more cameos from some of Dcu’s most talked about superheroes. From Booster Gold to Supergirl, rumors allege that the next episode will be nothing less than a DC superhero convention. As the episode is a few days away from airing, it’s hard to confirm unless more official information comes out. The internet, however, is making the most of it with their own predictions about the upcoming episode.

Right in the nick of time before the curtains closed on 2024, Netflix sneaked in one final new comedy series, and it's a good one. From Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman, the dark comedy No Good Deed starring Emmy Award winners Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano debuted on Dec. 12.

What would you do if an already naturally stressful life event became about 1000x more stressful? That’s one of the questions No Good Deed, Netflix’s new dark comedy drama, asks. It’s a fun setup. With also asking the big picture question of what it means to be a family and what one will do to protect that vision (along with a stacked cast), this could have been a massive hit. Halfway through Netflix’s No Good Deed, Lydia Morgan (Lisa Kudrow), a former concert pianist now embroiled in the madness of trying to sell her house, reflects on a repetitively heightened situation, sighs and says, “I’m so sorry and I can’t believe this is happening again.”

I Can’t Believe This Is Happening Again could have been a good title for Liz Feldman’s Dead to Me, a murky comedy about female friendship and murder that managed to take a tenuously thin premise and elongate it over three seasons by virtue of wild and sometimes illogical pivots, plus the truly exceptional work from stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. It was an exhaustingly paced show and, by its series finale, it put you through an emotional ringer as well. But if you had the patience for Feldman’s dogged approach, it was rewarding.

More than five years later, Christina Applegate is recalling how her struggle with multiple sclerosis (Ms) began.

The 4x Golden Globe nominee unknowingly experienced one of her first symptoms of Ms while filming the pilot for her Netflix dark comedy-drama Dead to Me, which ran for three seasons on the streamer from 2019 to 2022.

“I remember falling that day. Hi, first sign of Ms!” she said to the show’s creator Liz Feldman on Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s MeSsy podcast, recounting a scene that featured her character Jen running across a field.

Feldman noted, “I remember you losing your balance a couple of times but it was very hard to figure out. I remember one time it was like really late at night, we’d been shooting probably 14 or 15 hours, it seemed completely reasonable that anybody would be collapsing.”

The darkly comedic series, whose title refers to the social media acronym for “down to f*ck,” is about a love triangle among three adults experiencing middle-age malaise that leads to one of them ending up dead.

Dtf St. Louis has evolved from the Steve Conrad limited series project My Dentist’s Murder Trial, which HBO put in development more than two years ago with Harbour and Pedro Pascal attached to star and EP. HBO’s dark comedy limited series Dtf St. Louis is adding to its cast.

Linda Cardellini has joined the show, which comes from creator, showrunner and director Steven Conrad (Prime Video’s Patriot). She’ll star opposite Jason Bateman and David Harbour in the seven-episode series.

Dtf St. Louis is about “a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise, that leads to one of them ending up dead,” according to HBO’s logline. Cardellini will play a character named Carol, but other details — including whether she or her two co-stars make up the aforementioned love triangle — are being kept under wraps. The series is currently in preproduction.

The series was in development for more than two years before HBO gave it a series order. It was originally titled My Dentist’s Murder Trial and based on a 2017 New Yorker story by James Lasdun. At the time, Harbour and Pedro Pascal were attached to star.

The dark comedy comes from Steven Conrad, who also serves as its writer and director. Conrad is known for his work on “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” and Prime Video’s “Patriot.” “Dtf St. Louis” is currently in pre-production.

In addition to Conrad, the series will be executive produced by Bateman and Harbour as well as Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch for Escape Artists; Michael Costigan for Bateman’s Aggregate Films; Kristina Wenson for Bravo Axolotl; Molly Allen; and Bruce Terris.

HBO gave the series a seven-episode order in November. It was originally announced as being in development back in 2022 with Harbour and Pedro Pascal attached to star and executive produce. It was originally inspired by the James Lasdun New Yorker article “My Dentist’s Murder Trial: Adultery, False Identities, and a Lethal Sedation.” However, the creative direction of the series evolved over time and it is now based on a wholly original idea with no connection to the original article and with Pascal no longer involved.

The official logline now states the show is “about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise, that leads to one of them ending up dead.” Cardellini will play Carol.
