In her final interview with Gold Derby just months before her death, the stage and screen star looked back at her storied career.
Linda Lavin, best known for playing the title role in Alice, died Dec. 29 at the age of 87 following a battle with lung cancer. Based on Martin Scorsese‘s 1974 film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, the CBS sitcom ran for nine seasons from 1976 to 1985. Lavin was nominated for an Emmy in 1979 and earned two Golden Globes for her role as the working single mother who makes ends meet as a waitress at a diner in Arizona.

Streaming audiences have been all over the place with their holiday viewing this year. Instead of non-stop Christmas classics, we've seen Megan Fox sci-fi thrillers dominating Netflix's charts, and Gerard Butler-led crime thrillers taking over the Max rankings. That said, viewers have still managed to squeeze in some traditional holiday fare amid all the crime and sci-fi stuff, with Prime Video audiences propelling Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1996 Christmas comedy "Jingle All the Way" to the top of that streamer's charts. But even as the festive classics surface for the season, our collective appetite for darker offerings appears to be insatiable, as a new Netflix comedy drama series has managed to stand out amid the holiday stream-fest.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for No Good Deed, Season 1.] Netflix‘s newest Liz Feldman project, No Good Deed, brings a star-studded cast together as the show tells the story of a family trying to sell their home amid grief and secrets. Among the interested buyers are Sarah (Poppy Liu) and Leslie (Abbi Jacobson), a couple eager to find their forever home as they attempt to start a family. While Sarah and Leslie contend with IVF struggles, they also decide to dig into the mystery surrounding Paul (Ray Romano) and Lydia Morgan (Lisa Kudrow), who have a bidding war on their hands with several interested buyers. Ultimately, it turns out that Paul and Lydia’s son died after being shot by someone they believed was their teen daughter, who mistook her brother for a robber. The season’s twist reveals that it was in fact neighbor Margo (Linda Cardellini), who ejected a bullet seconds before the Morgans’ daughter did.

Linda Cardellini has lived a hell of a lot of lives. Sure, there’s her real one: a 49-year-old mom who grew up in California and is now raising a 13-year-old daughter with the love of her life while balancing a career that only seems to grow richer as she ages. But that’s not what people are most excited about when they stop her on the street. Most often, they’re stoked to see Judy, Cardellini’s homicidal but loveable character from showrunner Liz Feldman’s black comedy Dead to Me,...

Netflix's new dark comedy series No Good Deed from Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman has been a last-minute end of the year hit. The series debuted on Dec. 12 and has been a fixture on the streamer's top 10 most popular shows ranking ever since. Obviously, viewers are loving the darkly hilarious tragicomedy-mystery and they want more from the twisty series.
No Good Deed stars Emmy Award-winning sitcom veterans Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano as Lydia and Paul Morgan, a married couple attempting to unload their beloved Los Angeles family home in the aftermath of a closely shielded tragedy. The excellent series cleverly walks a tightrope between comedy, drama, and mystery, nailing every single one thanks to its writing and cast.
Even though the season finale wraps up the Morgan family's storyline and doesn't offer any leading cliffhangers for Lydia and Paul for a prospective followup season, that doesn't mean...

Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano have been the sitcom darlings of yesteryear. Through their work in Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond, they have become prominent figures in both film and television. However, besides a few exceptions, they have not shown the full extent of their dramatic acting skills. “No Good Deed” on Netflix offers them both a chance to be grounded performers who can effectively portray the gravity and the complexity of grief. This dark comedy, written by Liz Feldman, shows Kudrow and Romano as a middle-aged couple trying to sell their house a while after their son’s unfortunate death.
The series mainly revolves around the mystery behind the son’s death to realize the cause and the culprit behind a shocking turn of events. While doing so, it digs deeper into the lives of three families, who hope to buy their house.

It took a force like Taylor Sheridan to topple Max’s dominant run atop the streaming chart on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report last week. This week, it’s another streaming super power’s turn, as Netflix denies Sheridan the rare opportunity to top both the streaming and linear top 10 lists.
Netflix’s return to the top spot is thanks to “Carry-On.” The thriller has a holiday angle – all of the action happens on Christmas Eve – which helped it give Netflix its first chart topper since “The Perfect Couple,” way back on the Sept. 19 edition of the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report.
“Landman,” the Taylor Sheridan creation that topped last week’s chart, slides down to No. 2 this week. It’s one of just two non-Netflix titles on this week’s chart as the streamer dominates holiday season viewership.

Although Freaks & Geeks only got one season, its female protagonist was blessed with two love interests, thanks to a couple of talented young actors.
Jason Segel recently recalled the audition process for the Paul Feig-created NBC teen dramedy, which ran from 1999 to 2000 with EP Judd Apatow, featuring himself as aimless drummer Nick Andopolis, the eventual boyfriend of Linda Cardellini‘s overachiever Lindsay Weir.
“I was brought in for a callback with James Franco, and we were, as far as we knew, competing for the same part, because at the time, there was only one of those characters,” he told GQ. “Daniel and Nick were just one character at the time. So we went in and we auditioned against each other. They liked us both, and they split the part, and he became the cool one, and I became the goofy one.”
Segel added, “I always felt like Nick was a lot like me.

On the nostalgic TV dramedy Freaks and Geeks, Jason Segel’s character Nick Andopolis was never going to be a world-famous drummer like his hero John Bonham — but he would have died young like one, apparently.
Of all the “gone too soon” TV shows from the late-1990s to early-2000s that enjoyed second lives as cult classics with devoted online followings long after cancellation, Freaks and Geeks is probably the last one that needs endless speculation over what would have happened if the original creators got to see their TV world out to its natural conclusion. After all, we know what happened to Middle America in the 1980s: It voted for Ronald Reagan, staggered through the recession and watched the gap between wages and Gdp slowly widen into a gaping chasm.
But for the freaks and geeks of William McKinley High School, their current ending is a little too...

When we first meet Lydia (Lisa Kudrow) and Paul Morgan (Ray Romano) in No Good Deed, it appears the only topic the couple can agree on is their distaste for other people. While the couple can’t see eye to eye on the sale of their house — or the state of their marriage — they can both roll their eyes at indoor scarves and their neighbor Margo (Emmy-nominated Linda Cardellini).
But, after the trials and tribulations of Season 1, the Morgans are closer than ever (and have even more reason to dislike Margo). They end No Good Deedas a united front, smiling at their daughter Emily (Chloe East) and seemingly free at last from the trauma that plagued them throughout their years in their longtime home. Paul even appears to have an appreciation for Lydia’s more mystical theories about the continued presence of their late son, Jacob (Wyatt Aubrey), whose...

Liz Feldman’s No Good Deed has suspense, emotion and humor all in one. The murder mystery series starring Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, Abbi Jacobson, Denis Leary, Poppy Liu. O-t Fagbenle, Teyonah Parris, Luke Wilson and Linda Cardellini arrived on Netflix Dec. 12.
Throughout the series, several songs emphasize moments or themes in the show, like that of home, which is punctuated by Ozzy Osbourne and Motley Crue songs. A Eurythmics number sets the tone at a big scene in the finale, and a Bon Jovi song also pulls at the sinister side of the story.
Several other original songs performed by different characters put some spin on the series, which follows the Morgans, Lydia (Kudrow) and Paul (Romano) as they attempt to sell their house to reasonable buyers so that they can move on from a tragic event that happened there a few years ago. Trust us: Nothing good will come from skipping Netflix’s newest dark comedy series “No Good Deed.” Created by Liz Feldman of the Emmy-nominated “Dead to Me,” the eight-episode series shares connective tissue with the earlier comedy, as both are set in affluent areas of Los Angeles and revolve around characters who are being less than truthful with one another. Emmy winners Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano anchor the series as Lydia and Paul, a grieving couple attempting to sell their longtime home in the desirable Los Feliz neighborhood in the wake of their son’s death. While multiple interested parties believe the gorgeous Spanish-style villa on a bright corner lot will fix all their problems, there is a darkness that lingers within its walls, and Lydia and Paul must hide the truth about what happened inside the house long enough to sell it. Note: The following contains major spoilers for the “No Good Deed” finale
At the heart of “No Good Deed” is one core mystery: who actually shot Jacob? Well, in the season finale, we finally get a definitive answer.
Throughout the series, now streaming on Netflix, the answer tends to change as pieces of the mystery are revealed. The official report has Jacob’s murderer listed as a home invader. But why would Paul (Ray Romano) and Lydia (Lisa Kudrow) go to such lengths to keep the autopsy sealed and the murder hidden then?
Well, because it wasn’t a home invader. As the series progresses, it initially looks like perhaps Paul or Lydia themselves shot their son. When they enlist the help of Paul’s brother Mikey (Denis Leary) to cover things up, it definitely looks like a murder.
But, in the penultimate episode of the season, we discover that...

No Good Deed is a family/criminal drama that is about a murder that was neatly covered up three years ago. Unfortunately, it comes up again after all this while, and the characters in that universe find out the details leading up to the murder and discover who killed the victim. It is not a serious investigative drama, but this show has characters who are rich, nosy, sad, yet hypocritical. Most of the people in the show are married and getting on with their lives when, inadvertently, a sale of a beautiful mansion opens up a Pandora’s box.
Lydia
The amazing Lisa Kudrow is Lydia Morgan, a famous pianist who is married to Paul, a rich businessman. They have been going through a very rough patch in their marriage since the death of their son, Jacob. They don’t talk about him, yet they feel they are somehow responsible for the death.

Before Everybody Loves Raymond, Peter Boyle appeared in Joe (1970), The Candidate (1972), Young Frankenstein (1974) and Taxi Driver (1976), as well as on and off-Broadway. Fans adored him in the role of Ray and Robbie's deadpan, slightly cranky dad, Frank.
However, off-screen, he was nothing like his coarse character. Instead, he was a friendly, warmhearted guy.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for No Good Deed Season 1.] After eight episodes of drama, heartache, family strife, and very big secrets, the bidding war for the enchanting and desirable Loz Feliz home at the heart of No Good Deed has come to an end: The keys to Derby Drive are in the hands of suburban couple Leslie (Abbi Jacobson) and Sarah (Poppy Liu). But the reveal of who ended up in the house was far from the biggest twist or surprise that the Liz Feldman-created show served up. One of those big twists? Linda Cardellini‘s secretive and sultry Margo Starling, who turned out to not just be another interested buyer hoping to turn the home into a profit, but a manipulative woman with a hidden past who played a role in murdering Lydia (Lisa Kudrow) and Paul’s (Ray Romano) son three years ago. Cardellini’s Margo is about as far as you...

Liz Feldman is back with a new series called “No Good Deed,” and just as she did in her Netflix series “Dead to Me,” she’s set up a pretty good mystery.
Now streaming on Netflix, the show centers on Paul and Lydia, who are trying to sell their very popular and desired home. For them, it’s become haunted after their son was killed there three years earlier.
His death is labeled a casualty of a home invasion, but nothing is quite what it seems on this one. And there are plenty of potential suspects in and around the neighborhood.
Here are the faces you’ll need to know.
Netflix Lydia Morgan (Lisa Kudrow)
Lydia Morgan is a renowned pianist, but after her son is killed, she can’t keep her hands from shaking and temporarily loses her ability to play. She’s brought to life by “Friends” and “Time Bandits” star Lisa Kudrow.

James Gunn’s first release after his DC takeover, Creature Commandos, is the talk of the town these days. Although mostly for its brilliance, a controversy or two has also sparked around it. Giving people even more to talk about, the trailer for episode 4 dropped earlier today, with cameos from Superman and Wonder Woman.

What is even more interesting, however, are the rumors about even more cameos from some of Dcu’s most talked about superheroes. From Booster Gold to Supergirl, rumors allege that the next episode will be nothing less than a DC superhero convention. As the episode is a few days away from airing, it’s hard to confirm unless more official information comes out. The internet, however, is making the most of it with their own predictions about the upcoming episode.

Right in the nick of time before the curtains closed on 2024, Netflix sneaked in one final new comedy series, and it's a good one. From Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman, the dark comedy No Good Deed starring Emmy Award winners Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano debuted on Dec. 12.
Kudrow and Romano take on the roles of married couple Lydia and Paul Morgan, who are attempting to finally part ways with their family home three years after a tragedy altered the course of their lives. While selling their beloved but tainted home, they encounter three couples interested in placing bids, as well as an unfriendly reappearance from Paul's brother Mikey (Denis Leary).
The star-studded dark comedy — which also stars Linda Cardellini, Owen Wilson, Abbi Jacobson, Poppy Liu, O-t Fagbenle, and Teyonah Parris — packs quite the punch as it untangles the secrets that befell the Morgan home. But the series doesn't...

In No Good Deed, we find ourselves in the sun-soaked mayhem of Los Angeles, where the goal of homeownership becomes a frightening narrative thread. Paul (Ray Romano) and Lydia (Lisa Kudrow) Morgan are not simply selling a house; they are also striving to discharge the emotional weight of a grief-stricken life. Their Spanish-style mansion, tucked in the coveted Los Feliz area, serves as a bittersweet reminder of family joy and terrible loss.
As they conduct an open house, we are dragged into a world where every visitor is both a potential buyer and a voyeuristic observer of their misery. This dichotomy—between the appeal of a dream home and the shadow of a past tragedy—is keenly felt by anybody who has ever grappled with the concept of home as both a refuge and a prison.

Real estate can be life or death in Los Angeles. And that’s literally the case in the new comedy No Good Deed — now streaming on Netflix; I’ve seen four of the eight episodes — with a bevy of eager buyers scrambling to land a gorgeous dream home… a scramble that they all might not survive. This certainly feels like fertile ground for a dark comedy, and Netflix has assembled a ridiculously loaded cast to bring it to life, led by sitcom greats Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow. But the foundation here is shaky: A wildly erratic tone and an...

In the sixth episode of “No Good Deed,” J.D., a washed-out soap opera actor, and his trophy wife Margo, begin discussing the house across the street that everyone seems to be bidding on. J.D. wants to downsize, but Margo has already put in a hefty offer. It’s a disagreement whose every line seems to either start or end with a “honey,” an artificial sweetener that can’t even begin to conceal the friction within their rickety relationship.

Velma, what are you doing here? To be completely candid with you, I thought that controversial headline would definitely get you all to come read my thoughts on Lisa Kudrow’s new Netflix series, No Good Deed. I know it seems like I absolutely hated the show, and that I have based my opinion on all shows that put these two genres in a blender and bring out a mishmash of admirable plots that somehow end up a bit undercooked in the end. But this is not the case. This year we saw the likes of Only Murders In The Building, The Afterparty, and (my personal favorite) Bad Sisters getting new seasons, and on the other hand, we’ve also got a few new shows such as Bad Monkey and now No Good Deed that are growing the pool of the seemingly thriving genre. But what makes some of these...

What would you do if an already naturally stressful life event became about 1000x more stressful? That’s one of the questions No Good Deed, Netflix’s new dark comedy drama, asks. It’s a fun setup. With also asking the big picture question of what it means to be a family and what one will do to protect that vision (along with a stacked cast), this could have been a massive hit. Unfortunately the whole ends up being less than the individual parts.

Halfway through Netflix’s No Good Deed, Lydia Morgan (Lisa Kudrow), a former concert pianist now embroiled in the madness of trying to sell her house, reflects on a repetitively heightened situation, sighs and says, “I’m so sorry and I can’t believe this is happening again.”
I Can’t Believe This Is Happening Again could have been a good title for Liz Feldman’s Dead to Me, a murky comedy about female friendship and murder that managed to take a tenuously thin premise and elongate it over three seasons by virtue of wild and sometimes illogical pivots, plus the truly exceptional work from stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. It was an exhaustingly paced show and, by its series finale, it put you through an emotional ringer as well. But if you had the patience for Feldman’s dogged approach, it was rewarding.

Cardellini will play a character named Carol, but other details — including whether she or her two co-stars make up the aforementioned love triangle — are being kept under wraps. The series is currently in preproduction.
The series was in development for more than two years before HBO gave it a series order. It was originally titled My Dentist’s Murder Trial and based on a 2017 New Yorker story by James Lasdun. At the time, Harbour and Pedro Pascal were attached to star.

Linda Cardellini has been cast in a lead role opposite Jason Bateman and David Harbour in the upcoming HBO dark comedy limited series “Dtf St. Louis,” Variety has learned.
HBO gave the series a seven-episode order in November. It was originally announced as being in development back in 2022 with Harbour and Pedro Pascal attached to star and executive produce. It was originally inspired by the James Lasdun New Yorker article “My Dentist’s Murder Trial: Adultery, False Identities, and a Lethal Sedation.” However, the creative direction of the series evolved over time and it is now based on a wholly original idea with no connection to the original article and with Pascal no longer involved.
The official logline now states the show is “about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise, that leads to one of them ending up dead.” Cardellini will play Carol.
