Filmmaker Kevin Smith presents his most personal film to date with The 4:30 Movie, a coming-of-age story - set in the summer of 1986 - that follows three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local cineplex.
When one of the guys invites the girl of his dreams to see an R-rated film, all hilarity breaks loose, as a self-important theater manager (Ken Jeong) and teen rivalries interfere with his best-laid plans. Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Jason Biggs, and more contribute outrageous characters to this poignant comic valentine to moviegoing and the youth of the '80s.
Shot in Smith's Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, the movie has the same vibe as Clerks and is full of fun nostalgic Easter Eggs and pop culture references. It's also a relatable tale which features star-making performances from its four young leads: Austin Zajur, Nicholas Cirillo, Reed Northrup,...

In another world, The 4:30 Movie might have been named ‘Movierats’. Kevin Smith has long told tales of New Jersey kids simply hanging out, be it at the local shop (Clerks), the local fast-food restaurant (Clerks II), or the local mall (Mallrats). Here, he takes that template and applies it to the local multiplex — what better love-letter to cinema than a film set almost entirely at the cinema? And more specifically, the cinema of Smith’s own youth, which he now owns and operates as Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, NJ? Disappointingly, for all the promise in the premise, it rarely projects in quite the way you’d hope.
In typical Smith style, this is very much a story from the heart, remixing personal experience in cinematic form — lead character Brian David (a charming and engaging Austin Zajur) is a clear Kevin Smith stand-in, a deeply nerdy kid with a passion for cinema,...

As Hollywood attempts to keep up with the ever-changing face of streaming, Kevin Smith has gotten into the movie theater business.
The director’s latest film is The 4:30 Movie, which serves as a love letter to small-town cinemas. It came at a time when he was feeling “existential” about being “one more goofy-ass tile to this never-ending wall” of film and television content on streaming platforms.
“I know it’s hard out there. It’s always been hard,” he said. “That’s the one thing I could say. But it’s worth the struggle. It’s worth the fight. Like, it’s worth making that tile, man, because that tile winds up being all the difference in some person’s life you’ll never meet.
“I meet people who tell you wonderful things about movies you’ve made years ago that other people lambast, and they’re like: ‘That’s my favorite movie.

There are some minor Spoilers ahead if you don’t want anything about writer/director Kevin Smith’s new film The 4:30 Movie given away before you see it… but for those of you who would like to weigh whether not these are the sort of spoilers you feel you should avoid, I will say that this only concerns one exchange of dialogue and some of the special thanks seen in the end credits. Now, to get to the point: The 4:30 Movie is in theatres as of today, and since its release date also happens to be a Friday the 13th, I thought it was worth pointing out and celebrating the fact that Jason Voorhees, the iconic star of the Friday the 13th franchise, gets a shout-out in the movie!

Jam-packed with his familiar brand of vulgar yet verbose stoner humor and free-flowing riffs on movies—especially his own—the vibes are certainly off the charts in Kevin Smith’s The 4:30 Movie. Set in the summer of 1986, the film chronicles an initially magical day in the life of a Smith stand-in, Brian David (Austin Zajur), after he invites a girl from school, Melody Barnegat (Siena Agudong), to their local movie theater. But a raucous comedy of errors ensues thanks to Brian’s slacker friends, Burny (Nicholas Cirillo) and Belly (Reed Northrup), and a revolving door of local weirdos played by Smith’s Irl famous friends, turning the theater into a lawless asylum.
The 4:30 Movie doesn’t so much find Smith in his wheelhouse as it does in some kind of Synecdoche, New York-style Tower of slacker-movie Babylon. That, though, doesn’t translate to comedy gold, let alone a cohesive film.

After answering the call to defeat Thanos in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Gwyneth Paltrow stepped away from the Hollywood spotlight to appear in shorts, Netflix’s The Politician series, a voice-acting role in She Said, and a guest voice role in American Horror Stories. While in big screen hibernation, she nurtured Goop, her wellness and lifestyle program. Now, Gwyneth Paltrow is ready to return to cinemas as a featured player in Josh Safdie’s mysterious new film project, Marty Supreme.
The forthcoming film hails from Josh Safdie (Uncut Gems), with the project based on a script he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein. Initially, watercooler whispers pegged Marty Supreme as a film loosely revolving around a pro ping pong player. However, the latest gossip says it’s a fictionalized original film. Is the project still making moves to tell the story of ping-pong professional Marty Reisman? Your guess is as good as ours.

The 4:30 Movie is the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith, and a while back the movie not only received an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board, but it also secured a distribution deal with Saban Films that will see it reaching theatres on September 13th. In the trailer that has made its way online (and is embedded above), there’s a moment where we see a construction worker played by Jason Biggs having an intense experience in a port-a-potty… and Smith has revealed what’s going on in that scene. As it turns out, this is a movie-within-the-movie moment, much like the Sister Sugar Walls faux trailer that opens the trailer and the imagery we’ve seen from Astro Blaster and the Beaver-Men, which is the movie the characters are going to see at 4:30. It seems like an obvious rule of thumb that the producers of TV competitions should exclusively hire hosts and judges whom they would trust to be left alone in a room with one of the contestants. I mean , imagine if the organizers of the Westminster Dog Show had Rfk Jr. on their shortlist.
On the recently released Netflix cooking contest series Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, state fair-winning bakers from across the country compete for a $100,000 prize in order to determine which state produces the very best carnival confections in the country. The show is draped in all the family-friendly pageantry of an all-American state fair, so it’s only natural that the producers of Blue Ribbon Baking Championship set out to find a master of ceremonies whose name was synonymous with both America and its most patriotic pastries. That, I’m assuming, is how Netflix settled on hiring American Pie...

Netflix’s “Blue Ribbon Baking Championship” follows a now-familiar format for baking competitions, bringing together talented amateur bakers to compete in challenges and have their creations judged.
The show is set in a rustic barn that aims to recreate the atmosphere of a state fair, with judges Sandra Lee and Bill Yosses, White House pastry chef, and host Jason Biggs. Each episode consists of a “Fast Fair Bake” mini-challenge and a larger “Blue Ribbon Bake.”
While the show provides plenty of enjoyable baking and has a generally pleasant atmosphere, after watching multiple episodes I feel there is room for some improvements. The judging could feel more thorough and constructive at times.
And some challenges seem more focused on recreating fair foods rather than truly testing the bakers’ skills. Overall, though, the show is a pleasant way to spend time and get ideas for baking, even if it does not break new ground in the genre.

After 25 years, Jason Biggs took advantage of one of his most memorable roles for some tongue-in-cheek marketing.
The American Pie star, who hosts Netflix‘s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, joked “there were no pies harmed” while filming the backing competition series, which is “safe for family viewing” and now available on the streamer.
“I’ve really wanted to host something in the food world,” Biggs told USA Today. “Of course, there’s the wink at the camera and the audience with me as a baking show host. And whenever I can’t think of something to say, I always have a pie joke in my back pocket that brings the house down.”
The show’s premiere comes after last month’s milestone anniversary of his breakout role in American Pie (1999), which has long been known for its eponymous scene, in which Biggs’ bumbling teen character Jim fornicates with an apple pie.

Sandra Lee is serving up the Blue Ribbon Baking Championship in the spirit of the state fair. The Netflix competition series brings together 10 former Blue Ribbon winners from across the country and all walks of life in a festive bake-off for $100,000. Lee, who has been cooking up this project for 12 years, co-hosts alongside Jason Biggs of American Pie fame. The Emmy-winning celebrity chef and best-selling author also judges on a panel featuring White House pastry chef and Baker’s Dozen host Bill Yosses and accomplished artisan baker Bryan Ford. Here EP Lee sets the table for what’s to come. This project was a long time in the making for you. What does it mean to have this show out? Sandra Lee: This is digging back into the past for all of us. The first state fair was in 1765, 11 years before we were a nation. You could say food competitions have been around since then.

Even after rumors of a Simpsons-esque dolphin fetish surfaced online, a story about J.D. Vance’s penchant for couch-humping continues to dog the vice presidential candidate. Sure the story is clearly untrue, but nobody seems to mind.
The joke’s longevity has now been further extended by Vance himself, after he made a comment about his wife forcing him to sleep on the couch. It’s unclear how many injuries were sustained by people frantically rushing to their devices to make jokes.
The Vance rumor clearly began as a joke, an easily-debunkable claim on social media that the 2016 book Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis contained a graphic remembrance of the time Vance got intimate with “an inside-out latex glove shoved between two couch cushions.” In retrospect, it’s too bad that we never got to see this scene brought to life by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard.

Smith wrote and directed the feature that is billed as his “most personal film to date.” The coming-of-age story stars “Clerks 3” actor Austin Zajur as Brian David, a teen cinephile (and Smith surrogate) who regularly sneaks into movie theaters.
The official synopsis for “The 4:30 Movie” reads: “Three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local cineplex. When one of the guys invites the girl of his dreams to see an R-rated film, all hilarity breaks loose, as a self-important theater manager (Ken Jeong) and teen rivalries interfere with his best-laid plans.”
The film takes place in the summer of 1986, and includes cameos from former Smith collaborators Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Jason Biggs, Jason Mewes, Jason Lee (all the Jasons), and more.

Kevin Smith is back with a new film, The 4:30 Movie, which is heavily inspired by the writer and director’s mid ’80s upbringing and his movie-loving teenage years.
The 4:30 Movie takes place in New Jersey, where Smith grew up, and large parts were filmed at the Smodcastle Cinemas, which Smith now co-owns. Soundtracked by Kim Wilde’s “Kids in America,” the trailer for the lighthearted coming-of-age film follows a 16-year-old boy (played by Austin Zajur) who finally works up the courage to ask out his crush, Melody (Siena Agudong), to a 4:30 p.m. R-rated film, before “all hilarity breaks loose.”

No one could have predicted that a teenage boy sticking his dick in a pie would become one of the most iconic cinematic images of the late 1990s, but that’s precisely what happened when American Pie was released in theaters 25 years ago on July 9, 1999.
After a friend tells him third base feels like “warm apple pie,” horny high schooler Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) tries to replicate the experience with a freshly baked pie that’s cooling in his kitchen. Unfortunately, his dad (Eugene Levy) walks in just as Jim is fully “inside” the pie.
In all, the pie sequence only lasts about two minutes — or about twice as long as Jim lasts with Nadia; premature ejaculation is also very much on the menu in American Pie — but it was funny enough to launch a whole cinematic universe.
None of that could have happened, though, without the original apple pie,...

Alyson Hannigan Fondly Remembers Her Role In American Pie(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Following the 25th anniversary of the first 1999 American Pie movie, Alyson Hannigan made a stunning revelation about her role as the lovable band nerd Michelle Flaherty and how she nearly missed out on the sequels.
During an interview with Vulture, Hannigan added, “The best story from the whole thing was that you know, it was a low-budget movie with all these tiers of negotiations. There was an A-tier and a B-tier. I think I was on the bottom C-tier with Seann [William Scott].”
She continued, “I was like, ‘Okay, fine.’ It was seven days and it was more of a passion project. Then, in the contract, there was a sequel clause. I said, ‘Look, I’m getting paid scale plus 10. I’m not going to sign for a sequel. That doesn’t make sense.’ I sound like I was being really difficult,...

One time, Alyson Hannigan almost missed the bus back to band camp.
Ahead of the 1999 teen movie’s 25th anniversary, the American Pie actress reminisced about her role as lovable band nerd Michelle Flaherty in the raunchy franchise and how she almost wasn’t in the sequels.

She explained that the tiers were “in regards to pay,” adding: “So it’s just scale plus 10 [percent to an agent]. There’s no negotiating on the C-tier because the character is not that important.
“I was like, ‘Okay, fine.’ It was seven days and it was more of a passion project. Then, in the contract, there was a sequel clause,” Hannigan continued.

TBS has booked your Saturday nights for the foreseeable future as the network has announced the return of Dinner and a Movie. This revival will be hosted by Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen. The couple, who have been married for 15 years, are setting the table for fun in each episode with a mix of games, food, conversation, and of course, blockbuster films. For the premiere on June 1, it’s DC’s smash hit Aquaman starring Jason Momoa. Also on the menu are surprise guests stopping by including Food Network stars. They’ll be cooking up something tasty while giving their insight on how the audience can do the same at home. Biggs and Mollen were actually in 2008’s My Best Friend’s Girl together before dating, wedded bliss, and parenthood. No word if that movie or others the actor and best-selling author have been in like Amerian Pie are to come.

In a world full of chaos and injustice, it’s nice to have a safe space where you can just relax and think about nothing. It’s impossible to let your hair down while watching a dystopian show or an action movie, but a romantic comedy serves the purpose perfectly.
There are so many rom-coms created over the past decades that it goes without saying that some of them will definitely end up as the genre-defying ones, and some will rest there being totally ignored by the masses.
But when a legend like Tarantino says that his favorite movie is a totally low-rated one, maybe it's time to binge watch it again.
The movie in question is controversial director Woody Allen's Anything Else. The 2003 rom-com only has a 40% Rotten Tomatoes score, but in this case it just means nothing.

Jason Biggs is opening up about his past battles with alcohol, revealing he used to hide his addiction from his wife, Jenny Mollen.
The American Pie alum made a recent appearance on his wife’s podcast All the Fails, where he admitted that he continued to drink alcohol while attending counseling.
“I’m going to therapy and ‘working on things,’ but meanwhile I’m leaving therapy, having just had a good session, and I’m going to the liquor store and buying a fifth of vodka, drinking it and then driving home,” Biggs recounted.
Mollen said she was shocked to learn that she never realized the extent of his alcohol addiction. “How did I not notice?” she asked.
“I knew how to get wasted enough to where I took myself out of the life equation, took myself out of the present, didn’t have to connect in a way that made me feel things,...

The 1999 coming-of-age comedy "American Pie" was a massive hit when it was released in 1999. Starring a who's-who of upcoming teen talent, "American Pie" delved deeply into the more embarrassing sexual details of being an adolescent boy in the modern day. There were scenes involving bodily fluids, oral sex, and multiple references to creative masturbation. While the bulk of the film -- written by Mike Herz and directed by Paul Weisz -- prided itself on aggressive raunchiness, it wisely ended on a sweet note, allowing the characters to realize that despite having had sex, they still have a lot to look forward to on their journey of growing up.
For a while in the early 2000s, Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth, Seann William Scott, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Natasha Lyonne were household names largely because of the "American Pie" movies. To date, the series has made $990 million.

Best. Christmas. Ever! Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Heather Graham, Brandy Norwood, Jason Biggs, Matt Cedeño, Wyatt Hunt
Director: Mary Lambert
Writers: Todd Calgi Gallicano, Charles Shyer
Best. Christmas. Ever! Movie Review Out! (Picture Credit: IMDb)
What’s Good: Clocking in at 80 minutes, the film resembles a festive TV special, embracing familiar Christmas themes. The primary setting, Jackie’s suburban McMansion, exudes comfort, adorned with holiday decorations. Brandy’s musical performance adds a lively touch, and the absurd final act nearly ventures into “so-bad-it’s-good” territory.
What’s Bad: Despite a more interesting pedigree with Charles Shyer co-writing, the film descends into mediocrity, lacking wit and cohesiveness. Unremarkable performances by Jason Biggs and Matt Cedeño, coupled with a lackluster script, contribute to the film’s mundane nature. The set decorations fail to camouflage its shortcomings, and under Mary Lambert’s direction, the potential for dark comedy transforms into a saccharine family movie.

I will start this review by declaring that that title annoys me much more than it should. Why the full stops and the exclamation mark? It just feels very unnecessary. Now that is out of the way, let’s talk about the movie.
When Jackie sends out her annual ragging Christmas newsletter (I don’t think that’s a thing here in the UK – not to my knowledge – but they always seem to be a thing in American movies), it includes an invite for any of the readers (and friends) to join her at Christmas. Her high school best friend then accidentally ends up at her house after a long drive and they are forced to spend Christmas together.

It was nice while it lasted: David Fincher’s “The Killer” opened to #1 on the Netflix Top 10 last week and it’s now #3. Another high-profile Netflix Original took its place with Mary Lambert’s “Best. Christmas. Ever!” Trivia ensues: Much earlier in their careers, Fincher and Lambert each directed high-profile Madonna videos.
We’re still waiting on the PVOD releases of October titles “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s” (already streaming on Peacock), and “Killers of the Flower Moon” (soon to be streaming on Apple TV+). That left a sweet spot for Disney to debut Gareth Edwards’ “The Creator” at $19.99 — a rare film that’s not part of a franchise, and budgeted under $100 million.
The sci-fi thriller was a modest box office performer (just over $100 million worldwide), so its post-theatrical earnings are critical for potential profit. It is #1 at Vudu, which ranks by revenue. It was #1 during the week at iTunes,...
