The 1989 action classic Road House (watch it Here) recently got a decent enough Prime Video remake that’s set to receive a sequel – which is something the original movie should have gotten around 1991 or so. But no matter what other movies use the Road House title, nothing will ever compare to that ’89 movie… which I have vivid memories of watching at a drive-in during its initial release. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Road House, the estate of musician Jeff Healey has announced that they’re teaming up with Sony Music and Mondo Music to bring us Road House: The Lost Soundtrack, the complete, previously unreleased soundtrack that Healey recorded for the film.
Road House: The Lost Soundtrack is available to pre-order from the Jeff Healey Estate’s official website and will also be available on all major streaming platforms on June 7th, courtesy of Sony Music. This release features...

There are a lot cult classics from the 1980s, but Road House stands somewhere near the top. Sure, many of its fans wouldn’t label it as such, since they lovingly, legitimately and unironically adore it. But there’s no use in arguing it belongs in one camp over another or that it is unapologetically everything it sets out to be. But it – and its cult following – couldn’t have happened without a few broken ribs, a don’t-take-no producer and some pervy late-night phone calls to a star’s spouse. Yes, it involves Bill Murray… So, pour some suds and rip some throats because we’re gonna find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!

The 1989 summer movie season might've officially kicked off on Memorial Day weekend with the release of Steven Spielberg's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," but having been a movie-mad 15-year-old kid at the time, I can assure you that May's first adrenalized action spectacular opened a week earlier when Patrick Swayze introduced us to a man named Dalton in the instant s***-kicker classic "Road House." Critics initially wrote it off as a mindless meathead programmer from mayhem merchant Joel Silver, but the aptly-monikered director Rowdy Herrington and the screenwriting duo of David Lee Henry and Hilary Henkin understood their ludicrous assignment and aced it with knowing aplomb. Their unabashed commitment to inherently risible material turned "Road House" into the "Citizen Kane" of bar bouncer movies.
Of course, "Road House" was, for a long time, the only bar bouncer movie ever made. Surprisingly, given the film's enduring popularity, few...

Remember that action flick from 1989, Road House? With its gritty actions and cool characters, especially Patrick Swayze in the lead bouncer, the movie was a big hit. And now, it has gotten a reboot! MGM and Silver Picture dropped the remake on March 8, 2024, with Doug Liman directing and starring Jake Gyllenhaal in the Swayze’s shoes.

But we should not fail to remember the Og cast. They were top-notch, right? Sure, the remake is guaranteed to feature an excellent supporting cast, but it’s cool to see where the old team ended up.
Some are still kicking it in Hollywood, while others have sadly passed on. Either way, they left their mark. So, let’s catch up with the Road House crew and find out what they’ve been up to since the original movie rocked theaters.

Plot: An ex-UFC legend, Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal), reeling from a tragedy in the ring, takes a job as a bouncer at a troubled bar in the Florida Keys. While there, he gets caught up in a real estate scheme run by a crime lord’s well-connected son.
Review: So here’s the thing. I was super against the idea of remaking Road House. The original film with Patrick Swayze is, in my opinion, one of the greatest B-movies of all time and something of a staple as far as action movies go. It recently made my list of the top 25 action movies ever. Yet, the buzz surrounding Doug Liman’s remake was good, and the trailer sold me on the film 100%. Perhaps too much because I did precisely the wrong thing. I was so psyched by the trailer that I ended up drinking beer and throwing on the original Road House with friends,...

There have been, as of this writing, approximately 900 "Star Trek" episodes and 13 "Star Trek" motion pictures. That is, and forgive me for getting technical about this, a whole heck of a lot of "Star Trek."
Indeed, there has been so much gosh-darned "Star Trek" that the various writers have probably cycled through just about every possible type of story there is. This is the type of franchise where the exact same characters could do a "Bad News Bears" episode, a heart-wrenching drama about overcoming Ptsd, and an "Ocean's Eleven" episode over just a couple of months, and nobody in the audience ever batted an eye or thought that was weird. Heck, it's one of the main reasons why people now argue that "Deep Space Nine" is the best "Trek" show ever."

These days, you can’t turn around without finding a new medical drama on TV. Shows like New Amsterdam and 911 follow doctors, firefighters, and emergency service workers as they try to rescue patients and unsuspecting victims from tragedy. But before this overload of medical dramas, one show paved the way for firefighters and paramedics: Emergency! If you watched this show during its original run, you might wonder which Emergency! cast members are still alive.

Set in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, the 1970s action-adventure medical drama follows rescuers working as paramedics and firefighters. The show debuted as a midseason replacement in 1972, and IMDb lists the series run at 122 episodes in seven seasons and six two-hour TV movies until 1979.
Series creators previously worked on Dragnet and Adam-12, both about policing.

“Pain don’t hurt” is one of the many bits of cheesy dialogue from Road House, and it’s a perfect example of why this film is now regarded as a cult classic. Dalton (Patrick Swayze) blurts it to Doc (Kelly Lynch) as she’s stapling shut his knife wound. Dalton refuses anesthesia with that cool, ridiculous pick-up line, and it’s not long afterwards that he beds Doc because who could even resist that?
Road House came out in 1989 and earned 30 million at the box office from a budget of 15 million, according to Variety. But like so many cult films of the era, it found new life on the small screen. In 2020, Road House was named the most-played movie on basic cable, beating out Jumanji, Gladiator, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective which placed second, third, and fourth respectively.

Long before 9-1-1, Chicago Fire, or Station 19, the first responders of Emergency! saved the day. The 1972–77 drama joins Fetv’s schedule tomorrow (airing two hours nightly at 10/9c), but first, this seven-hour marathon showcases the guest stars who popped up alongside firefighter paramedics DeSoto and Gage. Such as: John Travolta The future Sweathog—in his first onscreen role—sweats it out in a Season 2 episode as a badly injured hiker who needs an airlift before a brushfire reaches him. (6/5c) Nick Nolte In one of his earliest parts, Nolte plays a dashing doctor. The Season 3 hour also features NFL Hall of Famer Dick Butkus as, natch, a football player with a broken ankle. John Sayles’ coal strike epic is grand American filmmaking bolstered by fine Haskell Wexler cinematography, great performances by dedicated actors, and a screenplay that avoids the common pitfalls of liberal filmmaking — by assuming the structure of an action Western. Filmed on a shoestring not far from the site of historical events, the pro- Union picture revs up viewer emotions, winding up as a moving, satisfying experience. Matewan’s been out of circulation far too long, but those that remember it will give it a high recommendation.

Lance Henriksen is one of those intriguing actors who straddles the line between character actor and leading man. He’s often cast in off-beat roles, but he always manages to be playing some variation of Lance Henriksen. And I’m fully on board with that. Henriksen’s leathery face and gravelly voice always seem to make any movie he’s in better. An interesting thing about Henriksen: over the course of five decades, his characters have taken one hell of a beating. They’ve been shot, stabbed, ripped in half, shot, lit on fire, blown up, hit by a car, shot, electrocuted, and did I mention shot? This month we take a trip to the small screen for the Tales from the Crypt second season episode “Cutting Cards” in which, interestingly enough, Henriksen makes it to the end credits. But he doesn’t exactly make it through unscathed.

Happy Valentine’s Day, horror lovers! It’s everyone’s favorite time of year, where we all exchange sentimental poems and candy boxes filled with actual human hearts. That’s right—there is no better way to celebrate February 14th than to sit down with a slasher classic. Ten years ago, the remake of the 1981 Canadian horror film My Bloody Valentine premiered in theaters, ushering in a moment of both slasher goodness and 3D madness that would be a bright spot for gorehounds everywhere.
Leading up to this film’s release, horror had seen a dearth of slasher films. Though the prior year was certainly not a bad year for the genre, slashers weren’t exactly all the rage. The Saw franchise was at the front and center of horror offerings for the time period and though definitely gory, it didn’t quite have the same feel of the classic slasher film.

For example, Roy was a firefighter and paramedic in the show. In real life, John David works in those positions, too. Though I’m sure it wasn’t the first, Road House is one of the first action movies I can remember that was equally enjoyed by male and female. Fresh off of the success of Dirty Dancing, Patrick Swayze stepped up to play badass bar bouncer Dalton, an expert at his craft, but still a stranger in a strange land. Based on reputation alone, Dalton is hired by the owner of a notorious bar called the Double Deuce. It seems the bar has been taken over by the seedy elements that haunt it, and so it’s time for Dalton to clean it up. When he realizes that the it’s the town that houses the bar that is the root of the corruption, Dalton calls in his good friend and mentor Wade Garrett, played cooler and badder-assed than ever by Sam Elliott, to help him tear it to the ground.

“Money talks nobody walks.” As part of this year’s Greater St. Louis Humanities Festival – which runs from Sept. 23-Oct. 2, and whose theme is “E Pluribus Unum?” – Cinema St. Louis presents a free screening Monday, September 26 at 7 Pm of writer/director John Sayles’ masterful City Of Hope (1991), which compellingly explores the racial attitudes and socioeconomic forces that divide the citizens of the fictional (but all too realistic) Hudson City, N.J.
An ambitious, richly detailed panorama of a city in decline – and rapidly approaching crisis – City Of Hope addresses urban decay in the United States by poking around in Hudson City’s political garbage, turning over and exposing the contaminated dirt of patronage, bribery, and special interests, demonstrating how the toxins trickle down to the middle class and poor, seep into our attitudes, and poison our thoughts. The sprawling cast includes actors from the director’s informal stock company – Joe Morton,...

Jocelyn Towne is the latest actor to wear a number of different hats on a movie with her new feature film, I Am I. Not only did she write, executive produce and direct, but she also stars in the movie as Rachael, a young woman mourning the death of her mother when she becomes reacquainted with her estranged father, Gene (played by Kevin Tighe).
Rachael wants to get to know him better, but she soon realizes that her father is suffering from memory loss and is convinced that Rachael is actually his wife/her mother. After trying and failing to make him remember who she really is, Rachael decides to play along with her father’s delusions and pretends to be her mother in order to get to know him better. But what starts off as a joyful reunion soon becomes a race against time as Rachael comes to see...

Jocelyn Towne’s directorial debut “I Am I” has the greatest intentions in the world, but thanks in large part to a hollow concept, the surface peels off quickly and reveals an emotionally vacant core. It’s worth noting how enticing that surface actually is, with the trailer doing a great job of inviting you into an intimate story of father-daughter bonding, which looks to be just sweet enough to dilute the familiar toxicity of Hollywood’s formulas. And something about Towne’s screen presence, which gives off an offbeat quirky vibe similar to Lisa Kudrow on a quiet day, contrasting against Kevin Tighe’s kindly, oblivious old man, makes the delicate evolution of the central relationship endearing to behold. Anyone who has an estranged relationship with one or both of their parents can easily relate to the emotional jolts experienced by the central character, and the situation she’s...

Written and directed by Jocelyn Towne, the moving I Am I presents a refreshing spin on both the amnesia and daddy issues genres.
On the occasion of her mother Sarah's funeral, Rachel (Towne) discovers that her long-lost father, Gene (Kevin Tighe), is alive, in an assisted living home, and is an amnesiac who believes that it's 1979 and that he's still the young man who abandoned his family.
When Gene refuses to believe that Rachel is not actually Sarah, Rachel goes with it, dressing and role-playing as her 1970s-era mother in order to get to know her father.
I Am I is a remarkably assured debut for director Towne, especially since she's onscreen the majority of the time, and her script eschews the rules of the standard Hollywood amnesia plot, ins...

One of the downsides of living in a movie landmark with a half-mile long driveway is that obsessed fans who can’t get a satisfactory peek from the road will occasionally think nothing about rolling up to your front door. Jim Lutz and Alex Carrillo have lived in their 100-year old farmhouse in Manor, Texas, since 1977, raising five children, running a jewelry business, and occasionally lending their rustic home to a movie or television production. But the tourists who come knocking aren’t imposing on their hospitality because of Roadie, the 1980 movie starring Art Carney and Meat Loaf that filmed there.

‘Cutting Cards’ may be one of the best episodes of Tales from the Crypt out there. It’s not necessarily horror but still has overtones of it, especially in the last third. Overall, it’s just a pitch black comedy in the guise of two-hander (fitting words for how the episode ends, eh?) between two titans of character acting just knocking out some damn fine performances.
It’s a simple story, two gamblers Reno and Forney keep competing against each other like rabid gamblers, and they won’t stop at all, no matter what the game or no matter what the odds are. And the gamut is pretty much run throughout the episode from Russian roulette to the most ominous sounding game, “chop poker.” But the reason it all works is because both men are so well-rounded, they have a past that causes them to hate each other with a bone-resounding passion.

When a film arrives at your door wrapped in a green ribbon with a bloody foam rubber index finger tucked under it...well, let's face it, that sucker is probably gonna get watched, especially when it has some good buzz surrounding it. Chop was worth unwrapping. Another motivator was that forced amputation has made for some great movei and TV entertainment in the last few years. In Tales From The Crypt, Lance Henriksen and Kevin Tighe played a game of chop poker that cost each them more than an arm and a leg. There's an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1985), titled Man of the South in which a wacky John Huston convinces a down on his luck Vegas gambler to risk his digits on a...

Richard Linklater often gets a lot of credit for launching the careers of many of the actors and actresses in his seminal, coming-of-age high school film, Dazed and Confused. But the reality is, Richard Linklater didn't launch some of those careers. Dick Wolf did. Yes: The guy behind "Law & Order" and all of their spin-offs. Wolf wrote a not-so-seminal high-school coming of age film that came out the year before Dazed and Confused. It was called School Ties, a movie that launched as many or more careers as Dazed and Confused.
Linklater is often cited as having created the successor to the Brat Pack, but did he really? And which movie had the superior cast? Which movie fared better with audiences? And finally, which movie has had the biggest legacy?
Let's consider the facts:
Round 1
Dazed and Confused launched the career of Jason London. What's he doing now? Crap, that's what.

My answers to most of the fundamental questions asked about movies, crazy plots and other things is usually one thing…aliens. I say it jokingly of course as I do not necessarily believe that whole heartedly but usually its…aliens. I usually follow that up with watch an episode of any Star Trek show if you do not believe me. On this video of the week I09.com showed me that all the answers to Lost can be summed up by Star Trek as some of out favorite Lost characters played a role or two on the classic Next Generation series from Star Trek.

In its debut last year at the Kirk Douglas Theater in Los Angeles, Rajiv Joseph's play "Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo" caught the attention of the local critics and theatergoers for its tremendous depth and heart. It is a play Back Stage called "a monumental work that muses on cruelty and nature, language and creativity, religion and remorse." The Pulitzer Prize committee likewise valued it, naming it a finalist for the 2010 drama prize. Uniquely unsuited to a one-sentence description, the play is less about plot, more about ideas—explicated by a tiger, American soldiers, an Iraqi interpreter, the deceased sons of Saddam Hussein, and a variety of Iraqi women, undervalued and treasured. But the play would have remained words on a sheaf of papers had not Moisés Kaufman—a playwright and founder of Tectonic Theater Project in addition to being a world-class director—taken up its direction. After thoughtfully casting the piece,...

When NBC's Trauma series was first announced, more than a few TV viewers were reminded of the 1970s Emergency! TV show. Trauma Executive Producer Dario Scardapane says that's not a coincidence.
Emergency! revolves around a Los Angeles team of devoted paramedics, doctors, nurses, and firemen who are quick to respond when there's an accident or disaster. The cast includes Robert Fuller, Julie London, Bobby Troup, Randolph Mantooth, Kevin Tighe, Tim Donnelly, Mike Stoker, Marco Lopez, Michael Norell, and Ron Pinkard.
The series ran for six seasons on NBC, from 1972 until 1977. It was cancelled after 122 installments but members of the cast returned in five made-for-tv movies between 1978 and 1979.
