A poisoned river runs through Espinar, a province in the southern highlands of Peru, where lead, arsenic, cadium, manganese, and mercury have been found in the blood of members of the Cusco region’s Indigenous K’ana Nation. Mountains once majestic against the blue horizon have been erased and swallowed by vast pits as the Peruvian government courts international mining companies scraping the ancestral lands for metal. This is where Wings of Dust, the story of Vidal Merma, a Quechua Indigenous journalist, begins.

Rupert Everett is looking back at how his friendship with Madonna was strained due to The Next Best Thing movie flop.
The My Best Friend’s Wedding actor recently appeared on the How to Fail With Elizabeth Day podcast, where he reflected on the 2000 John Schlesinger-directed romantic comedy, which starred Everett, Madonna and Benjamin Bratt.
“It was not a failure as such really at the box office because of video sales in those days — Madonna sold a lot of videos — but the film itself didn’t work, even though for a long time, it was the only film that dealt with this issue that was actually then happening and being born,” he explained.
The Next Best Thing follows Abbie (Madonna) who has a one-night stand with her gay friend Robert (Everett) and they agree to raise the resulting baby together. But things get complicated when Abbie starts dating Ben (Bratt).

While 2000’s The Next Best Thing was a critical flop, another more personal tragedy happened behind the scenes.
Rupert Everett recently reflected on starring in the John Schlesinger-helmed romantic comedy and how it put a “strain” on his friendship with co-star Madonna, which is why he now looks “the other way” when the film is on TV.
“It was not a failure as such really at the box office because of video sales in those days – Madonna sold a lot of videos – but the film itself didn’t work, even though for a long time, it was the only film that dealt with this issue that was actually then happening and being born,” Everett said on the How to Fail podcast.
Written by Tom Ropelewski, The Next Best Thing starred Madonna as Abbie and Everett as her gay best friend Robert, with whom she has a baby after a drunken night of intimacy.

Halle Berry made a recent appearance for an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss her new movie Never Let Go. During the interview, host Jimmy Fallon pointed out that this year, 2024, marks the 20th anniversary of Catwoman - something that Berry herself celebrated with a recent post on social media in which she posed with a few rescue kittens.
When asked by Jimmy Fallon about what she remembered about making the film, Berry stated she “loved it” despite it being “panned” by critics. Once asked if she would don the cat suit again, Berry told Fallon “Maybe, if I could direct it.”
Could this be the star's way of leaving the door open for yet another appearance as the Pitof version of the character? The legendary actress is at a stage in her career where she can do whatever she wants, but even if she were to direct another Catwoman project,...

‘Millers in Marriage’ Review: Edward Burns Contends with Age and Art-Making in Mature Mid-Life Drama
In the films and television shows he’s made as a writer-director, Edward Burns has never not made things personal, but retaining the same level of creative control that he had on his breakthrough “The Brothers McMullen” has often required working on modest budgets and with younger casts and crews, naturally making the work itself move farther away from who he is now. In a marketplace starved of thoughtful adult dramas, that makes his return to center stage in “Millers in Marriage” a welcome one, as Burns mines territory he’s familiar with after turning 50.
“All I’m looking for is a stable relationship with a woman my own age,” Burns’ character Andy can be heard telling his new girlfriend Renee (Minnie Driver), putting her at ease when she worries he might want kids. They’re at a summer home that Renee got in a divorce, and by the standards of “Millers in Marriage,...

There is something almost remarkable about how “Millers in Marriage,” a relationship drama written and directed by Edward Burns (who also co-stars), manages to gather a group of some otherwise acclaimed actors, sticks them in rooms to talk through what are inevitably emotionally charged situations that their characters are facing, and comes out with something so empty. This void of a movie has plenty of the right pieces to work with at hand, but continually arranges them in the most blunt, least interesting manner possible. It’s a film that bolds, underlines and then shouts at you what it’s about, though never authentically earns your emotional investment.
Save for the more measured performance of Minnie Driver, none of the other actors emerge unscathed as all get dragged down by overwritten dialogue and painfully unsubtle storytelling.

Two years ago, Kauchani Bratt was like most college students and had no clue what might be next. He didn’t expect to pursue an acting career, let alone star in a buzzy Netflix drama premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival as his first job out of college.
At the time, Bratt was studying philosophy at Uc Santa Cruz when he saw an Instagram post about an open casting call for Rez Ball, Netflix’s basketball-focused feature produced by LeBron James’ The SpringHill Company. Although Bratt had no acting background aside from a couple of college courses to fulfill general requirements, the opportunity seemed tailor-made. After all, the part called for a Native performer with basketball experience, and Bratt, whose mom’s side is Quechua and dad’s is Coahuiltecan Nation, spent three years on his high school’s varsity team.

When it comes to superhero movies, Catwoman is often cited as one of the worst, by just about any measure. The 2004 film, starring Halle Berry, has earned a notorious reputation over the years. Despite the passage of two decades, it remains widely derided, failing to even achieve the cult status that often salvages films of its kind.
Looking back, it’s clear that Catwoman lacks any substantial redeeming qualities. Halle Berry’s performance, given the subpar script, was admirable, but she can’t be held responsible for the film’s shortcomings. Everything else about the movie fell flat: it was a poor adaptation of a beloved comic book character and a failure as a standalone film.
For those who remain skeptical, consider this: even after 20 years, fans still cringe at one particular scene, often deeming it the worst in cinematic history.

As far as superhero movies are concerned, one of the worst ones – by all reasonable standards – is Catwoman. This 2004 movie starring Halle Berry was so bad that it is still, 20 years later, considered a horrible mess that no one really likes; such films often become cult classics after a decade or so, but Catwoman has failed in doing that as well.
In retrospect, this film really doesn’t have any proper redeeming quality, and while Halle Berry did her best with a poor script and cannot be blamed for the movie’s failure, everything else can. Not only was it a horrible interpretation of an iconic comic book character, but it was also a horrible standalone movie.
If you don’t believe us, we’ll just tell you that now, 20 years after the movie’s premiere, the fans are still amazed at how bad one particular scene was, calling it...

When it comes to superhero movies, there have been more than a handful of misses before the age of CGI led to the establishment of the critically acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe and its not-so-critically-acclaimed counterpart, DC Universe. While DC is getting a new lease of life as of now under James Gunn, there was once a time when its mythos inspired the creation of two of the worst comic book movies of all time: Halle Berry’s Catwoman and Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern.

Halle Berry is leaving the door open to reprising her Catwoman role, which she portrayed in the 2004 film directed by Pitof.
The star of The Union hinted that there’s one way to get her to wear the catsuit again.

Halle Berry would love to play Catwoman again. The 58-year-old actress portrayed the DC Comics character in the heavily criticised 2004 eponymous flick which also starred Sharon Stone, Benjamin Bratt and Lambert Wilson and was directed by Pitof.Despite the blockbuster being panned, Halle would be happy to suit up as the character again if the opportunity arose.Speaking to the Canadian Press at the premiere of 'The Union', she said: "I would bring back Catwoman, if I really got a chance to. I think what happened to her the first time around was unfair.“I think she's way underrated, and I would love to give it another shot.”Recently, Berry reflected on the film for its 20th anniversary, and criticised its story for being “a bit soft”.She told Entertainment Weekly: “I always thought the idea of Catwoman saving women from a face cream felt a bit soft.

The adventures of little yellow men and their lovable leader, Gru, helped Despicable Me and Universal create an unparalleled run at the box office. Every movie to date has taken home at least $250 million in the US. Minions: Rise of Gru made the most money of the franchise hits to date, topping $370 million domestic and spawning the “Gentleminions” phenomenon.
Whether Steve Carrell was the reason most people checked out the first movie is a question we’ll ask for years. Regardless, the comedy star has a bonafide franchise that continues to rake in the dough. With the sixth film in the franchise set to dominate the 4th of July weekend, it’s time for us to rank the series and see where Despicable Me 4 falls in the series.
SUGGESTEDMinions: The Rise of Gru Review: A Fun Family Adventure 6. Minions (2015)
Sadly, the first Minions experience ranks among the weakest of the franchise.

Netflix’s rom-com “Mother of the Bride” and Will Forte crime drama series “Bodkin” led the Luminate streaming originals chart for the week of May 10-16, elbowing past higher-profile competition.
Two buzzy streaming original movies — Netflix’s “Unfrosted” and Amazon Prime Video’s “The Idea of You” — held up well in their second full week in release. The Jake Gyllenhaal starrer “Road House” continues to be a work horse for Prime Video, which confirmed earlier this week that a second installment is in development. A surprise on the original film chart was Netflix documentary “Living with Leopards,” which debuted at No. 7.
“Bodkin,” which revolves around a podcast crew that comes to investigate the disappearance of three people from a small town in Ireland years before, moved swiftly up the original streaming series chart, passing Netflix’s “A Man in Full.” The Jeff Daniels’ starrer came in at No. 2 in its second full week in release.

When Lana and Will meet up again in Thailand for Emma (Miranda Cosgrove) and Rj’s (Sean Teale) wedding, decades have passed. They’re now in their 50s, but they can’t shake that undeniable connection between them. Shields is thankful that movies like Mother of the Bride exist for women her age. “I’ve been fighting for this new movement,” the 58-year-old told TV Insider. “That was one of the sort of most important things when Christina Rogers at Netflix said, ‘You know, I want to tell these stories.’ And I said, ‘Good luck because you’re going to get resistance.

On paper, Brooke Shields and Miranda Cosgrove share a lot in common. They both began their professional careers as child models who went on to find early success as actors. While Shields rose to fame in late-’70s and ’80s films (Pretty Baby, The Blue Lagoon, Endless Love), Cosgrove made a name for herself in the aughts on small-screen sitcoms (iCarly, Drake & Josh). As young women growing up in Hollywood, they both became cultural touchstones for their respective generations but, in turn, were forced to weather intense scrutiny under the limelight.
In that respect, it seems particularly fitting that Shields and Cosgrove would team up to play mother and daughter in Mother of the Bride, which launched Thursday on Netflix. Directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday) and written by Robin Bernheim (The Princess Switch), the breezy new romantic comedy follows Shields’ Lana, a widowed single mother and world-renowned...

Chad Michael Murray cemented himself as an early 2000s dreamboat with roles in A Cinderella Story, One Tree Hill, Freaky Friday and more. Now, as a father of three, the actor says his kids are one of his biggest considerations when choosing new roles.
The Mother of the Bride star sat down with Numéro Netherlands ahead of the release of the Netflix movie and discussed his decades-long career, future projects and how he always puts his family first.
“I would say, a lot of material, especially over the past five to eight years since my son was born, I choose because I think one of the last things you really want is for your kids to be berated in school for what their parents are doing,” Murray told the publication. “I don’t want my kids going to school, being freshmen in high school, and Dad’s butt posted all over their locker.
